  • Actually, pre-bend is concise ...other then bend first and strike note ..pre-bend is clear ..so keep using it.

  • Takes me about a week to get the speed. About a lifetime to get the feel. Thanks for your time in producing these great lessons.

  • Great stuff and this will help me a lot! I dont understand some of the negative comments. This is terrific tution and its FREE!!! :-) Rock on.

  • Pre-bend? What the hell does that mean? LOL!

  • you bend before you pick the string.

  • It's stupid to say "pre-bend" when you can just say bend the string and then pick. Those are stupid euphemisms that just sound fancy.

  • hmmmm, pre bend(two words) or bend the string and then pick(6 words). I'll let you slowly realize you're a dumbass on your own.

  • R u really that pretentious? And if I'm the dumb one, then what does euphemism mean??? You guitar/music nerds are what's wrong with music. You all come up with these stupid words that at the end of the day just make a bigger deal out of things than what they are. Btw, I understood what your description of "pre-bend" is, i just think the term is stupid and unnecessary.

  • milkman4eva, shut up. don't post any comment if you don't have anything normal to say. oh god i hate these stupid fucks.

  • Oh really? I can say whatever I please. If you have a problem with it, then that's your issue and not mine. BTW, I looked up on your page and I saw videos of a band covering El Cantante. I TOURED with people who were playing Bongo and Timbal in El Cantante with Marc Antony. And, Also a bass player who PLAYED for Hector Lavoe by the name of Ruben. Not to mention my personal friends who played with Ismael Miranda last summer in a festival in Boston.

  • And, the guy I know who played in the movie El Cantante for Ray Barretto. His name is Carlos Soto just in case. So before you go talking crap, consider that there are some of us here who make comments because we get it directly from musicians who TOUR for a living and also record. There's a consensus among us that many people who make instructional videos, and also musicians who don't do it for a living, use all this unnecessary jargon to teach something. It takes away from the music.

  • "Pre-bend" is a very common term used in tablature. No pretentiousness. You can make this argument about lots of terms, such as "legato" or "trill" or "vibrato". It's easier to say "vibrato" than it is to say "bend the string up and down quickly to get a vibrating sound". Now, if you were teaching a beginner about vibrato, of course that's how you would describe it. One assumes a certain musical knowledge and skill level when making a lesson.

  • Ok that makes sense. What it is is that I don't use tablature. I just sit down with the guys I know with more experien see it for myself. I have to admit, part of the reason I responded the way I did is because I have a disdain for many folks in this day and age who get too technical when it comes to teaching and playing. My fault for that, because I do think there are good pointers in the lesson.

  • Also, I live outside of Boston and have to deal with some of the music school folks. A lot of them are fans of the virtuosos like Steve Vai, and drummers and percussionist in that category. The people I know who look up to them have a tendency to overlook playing with taste and knowing how to not be too busy in a song. That, and usually there's a lack of feel. and usually here on Youtube, I run into guys like that. The worse part of it is, that those kind of guys never tour or do anything!

  • So on that note, thanks for the clarification. It's much better to get that than people who swear and insult without understanding why I might make the points I do. I might not post videos here, but I've flown overseas to play for folks who have gone platinum. And I've had the fortune of being surrounded by renowned musicians in my culture. So when I speak, it's from experience. Too often I see people here who are aficionados, but they never had lived off of music. So they don't understand.

  • I have to agree, I hate all that polished buzzword bullshit

  • sports fans??

  • from scrubs! come on people

  • its in scrubs haha.

  • Check out Robert Duvall in the 'Great Santini.' "Sports fans" probably 25 times. An outstanding film, by the way.

  • ...Sports fans? Anyone else notice that?

  • Also I don't really feel anything from your playing... it's so stiff and mechanical. Post something with more feeling, I mean, c'mon, don't just show off speed.

  • Hey Jlspade, why don't you post an instructional video so we can learn from you?

  • You're not a very good teacher. You need to work on your rhetoric and teaching style; the problem is that with the speed at which you teach, only intermediate players would be able to really follow it, and intermediate players would not be watching this because your lick is really basic and not very good, nor original.

  • great! thanks

  • Line 6 in the background?

  • Yep. POD 2.0.

  • A little bit of flavor to end on :)

  • good one

  • blues essentials for sure.

  • thanks for that new lick!
