Can someone please explain bass to me? I love death metal and want to understand all parts of it. I understand drums, guitar and even vocals but I don't get bass. I know it makes a huge difference but I don't hear it half the time in songs... maybe I'm not listening for it the right way? Thanks.

@PityTheHuman Yep you don't really hear it for more than half a song, sometimes not at all!, but If you listen closer, It actually gives a song its deepness, and since it's in tune with the guitar, you wont really hear it, I think this explanation outta do it :)

@PityTheHuman it fills out the stereo field. if you have two guitars, one panned left and one panned right, that means there is no music in the middle of the stereo field, only percussion and vocals. to fill this space in the middle, you put in a bass guitar

I haven't been playing long either myself, for about 4 years, but you can easily shave two off because I haven't played in about two years. I use to play 3-4+ a day and was getting quite good, but after the first two years so much got in the way of not playing it seemed, I'm going to try to get back in the habbit. I loved playing guitar

@ZachForgives no your right you tune the seventh to an A and then the rest are in Dflat tuning so its a standard D flat for your six higher strings and your seventh is that Aflat for super low chugging and a widder range

Check out their self-titled an their EP "Ruines Humaines." Great music. They broke up last year, but they've been working on other similar projects which are just as awesome.
