Contra 4 was just a lazy rehash of the first game, with the addition of a black bar obscuring the middle of the screen. This is definitely a better game (and a better Contra) than that was. I also like the fact that they didn't include any stupid sub-stages breaking the flow of the game.
@sacrisesma i dont know how you can say that contra 4 was a "lazy rehash of the first game" when they incorporated some new mechanics to the game and visuals. This rebirth, if anything, is MORE of a rehash than 4. Given, though, to the fact that the throwback to the last 3 contra games is very inviting, Contra 3 had to be my favorite and most difficult in the whole series.
This game is awesome. I've got it on my Wii and I've beaten Easy, Normal, and Hard modes. I'm going to forget Nightmare mode because it's harder than it looks. One more thing I wanted to mention (I don't know if you can in the Japanese version) is you can speed up the Stage 2 intro by holding down A or whatever amounts to it. Good run SirVG!
Depending on the control scheme, you can. The classic controller can. The Wiimote only you have to rapid tap in order to do it, as holding down 1 locks in you in place.
Hm. hold on a second. When BRWN-9 dies, a flower pops out from her corpse. Is that some really, really obscure reference to Konami Girl's death animation from WaiWai World? I mean, she was a robot too, iirc.
hey,awesome upload! You play through contra far better than I ever will. The game looks fun, but, it doesn't quite give me that contra "feel". I'm just so used to the bizarre/gross-out factor from some of the other titles. I did like the new incarnation of the classic final boss,though.
Wow! Fancy footwork right there before the Final... I bet that was scary! Couple speed run tips: Switch between S and L on the Heart when possible. I think I managed less than a 10 sec defeat this way. And on the Final Trash Monster when it spews a trash beam from the right, if you stand directly under it with the laser you can wipe out the trash and do maximum damage. This is very risky though because your placement has to be perfect and you don't have a whole lot of time to get there.
I find it funny how a half naked dude is flying into the atmosphere from outer space and neither suffocates nor burns alive with a gun melting in his hands.
I should, but I haven't gotten it down yet. Would love to do 2P Hard - maybe with that I'd actually have enough firepower to get through the game alive. ^^;;

Personally, I liked Rebirth. Most "real" Contra players from what I hear like 4 better, since it's more of a "real" Contra game then this is.

Fucking amazing, your hands are pretty swift with jumps and avoiding , nice setting with bosses too.
Game itself is much better than majority wii crap, love old music of Genesis version.
