  • Newley released this c1960 as a spoof on a rather insipid version by the Beverly Sisters that was getting a lot of airplay at the time (and which did stick to the traditional words).

  • Brilliant !!! Not heard this one for years. Thanks "livesteam" for posting.....

  • Hilarious; had to sing Scarborough Fair for school once and my Gran was adamant I was singing all the words wrong. Turned out she was thinking of Strawberry Fair. Bizarre lyrics and what's with half talking/half singing? Prefer Scarborough Fair.

  • The beginning is the same as the traditional version but the rest corrupted. No wonder the Brits cannot preserve their tradition and why they want to ruin others.

  • @POTRADS Go back to bed ya foreign prick.

  • A great number by a great artist. Senior Superstud, about half the song is the original with Newley ad libbing for the last half. Lyrics are easily available on the net. You aren't thinking of Scarborough Fair, are you?

  • I really love this MASTER OF THE ARTS and I can say he is one of the BEST songwriters ever in the world.. With my deepest respect for the great ..sorry..GREAT TONY NEWLEY!

  • Nice song, but not the traditional lyrics. Does anyone out there have the traditional version of this song?

  • Wonderful stuff. My dad was lucky to see Newley in the early 70's. Apparently whenever he sang this song live, he'd sing " Won't be round tomorrow -the donkey's PISSED on the strawberries! "

(you can even hear him hesitate singing that on this recording)

  • Please could somebody upload "A BOY WITHOUT A GIRL" if they have it in their collection, it was the b-side of Strawberry Fair, thank you.

  • ... 173 in the roud list of english folk songs.. i believe :)

  • got the original single.. classic :)

  • Cheers Geezer love it ... !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ha! I've been waiting to find this for ages. Thanks for posting! :)

  • @mozquiff My pleasure. :D

  • @mozquiff I remember singing this song in junior school - I love the bit at the end when he says "strawberries, strawberries, shan't be 'round tomorrow, the doggy's pinched all the strawberries" lol!!
