There is an ongoing debate wheter it is: a) carbohydrates - via the increased insulin (excess calories storage hormone) secretion to reduce sugar in blood after high carb meals; b) fats - due to the fact that they have the highest caloric density?   • I checked the article and it says nothing about where to get essential aminoacids. if you eat only rice and potatoes. and these taste like crap without meat anyway.

    I agree that protein amount should be minimal, but meat is best way to get essential aminoacids and it makes food taste good even if you add a little amount of meat.

    Also without meat you will not grow big what may increase lifespan but it will make you weak.

    small amount of meat wont do much damage but will greatly enhance quality of life because it tastes good.

    I agree that too much meat is harmful because it produces ammonia, but it is not cyanide it wont kill you.

    and since they taste great I don't mind to take that risk.

    if you do not eat meat you need big diversity of plants, while with meat you can live only on hamburgers, pizzas and apples. that way easier that hunting diversity of fruits and vegetables to get all essential amino acids.

  • @deltaxcd Risk is FAR less and almost non-existant. Research *any* vegetable or fruit and you'll find every one of them has anti-cancer properties. Imagine if you were to fill your diet with a variety of these anti-cancerous foods... you'll also find that every animal product PROMOTES the growth of cancer, you don't have to imagine what that does to the body, just look at the typical American, fat and full of disease. You must work for the dairy/meat industry.

    I do not advocate overuse of dairy/meat but I recommend use these as kind of spice. Just as you use pepper or tomato sauce. they taste great with potatoes or rice.

    I completely agree that best food for human is glucose (starch) because it promotes satiety and leaves no harmful substances in our body.

    animal fat is also almost harmless but it has too much calories and contaminants.

  • @deltaxcd It's fine with me that you don't care enough about yourself to take care of your body, eat whatever the hell you want, just stop trying to convince others that eating pizzas and hamburgers are just as good or only slightly worse than eating a diet rich in fruit and vegetables. Meat and Dairy is literally poison, it causes a slow, disease ridden and usually painful demise, if one cares about themselves they will refrain from eating meat and dairy. Period.

    I newer said it is good diet. I just stated fact that such diet has all essential nutrients you may ever need.

    Where I live everybody eats meat and almost nobody is fat or sick maybe only 1 of 50 or less people have weight problems. All my family has excellent health and we all eat some meat. So what you say about diseases is lie.

    Also meat improves my digestion it eaten together with bread products.

    Cows can produce it themselves from anything edible. We do not have some genes so we need external sources of protein.

    You can become stronger without meat, but drmcdougallmd himself said that milk and meat makes you grow faster because it increases amount of IGF levels up to 60%, what also cause cancer and shorter age. So if you eat meat and milk you just grow much bigger without any effort. Also it makes you heal faster.

    Soy can be used to replace meat but it is same as meat or even worse so why bother.

    he did not recommended dairy products he just stated the fact that these product amplify IGF levels in our blood what causes faster growth , healing, cancer and faster aging.

    So we should threat dairy products as drugs that are useful and also harmful.

  • @drmcdougallmd Your site is confusing and hard to navigate, I would enjoy reading what you have to say, however I am skeptical of you not saying it in this forum. I think you're concerned I will disagree, and call you out on something bogus. I would love to be proven wrong, but that is my inclination. Perhaps you define amino acid differently, or maybe something to do only 5% of calories are from protein anyway. Some theory that totally goes against common sense and evolution.

  • Thank you so much for your examples. I am a Vegan and it is always nice to have numbers and percentages available when omnivores criticize the way I eat. I particularly enjoyed the human breast milk example since I did not know this. Thanks again and keep up all the good work you are doing!.

    You cannot consume a calorically adequate, 2000 calorie a day diet comprising entirely of whole plant foods and not guarantee yourself at least 50g of high grade complete quality protein.

  • It's funny how so many people use that silly protein ''argument'' against veganism. We only need about 40-70 grams of protein a day. Most fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds contain plenty of protein, and many grains contain even more protein than most meats and other animal products.

    Bread, for example, has a lot of protein. 100 g bread = 8-15 g protein.

    I'm vegan, and I actually get much more protein than I need.

  • @FrozenMermaid666 protein is not the issue with vegans, its the vitamin b12. I think that is the only really important issue every vegan should be aware of. b12 deficiency can cause anemia and irreversible nerve damage within a few years.

  • @Jordonified OK. Health and fitness are two very different concepts. I know that might blow your lil mind. I'm not interested in the kind of 'elite level' fitness that Harley promotes- I don't live on disability benefits and solicited donations like he does, so I don't have time to spend 5 hours on a bike and 12-15 hours sleeping on a daily basis. I practice vigorous yoga, swim, walk, kettle bell. I'm strong, flexible, healthy. I have a good body composition.

    Again... It's 'you're', not 'your'.

  • @Jordonified A diet that is so unsustainable over time that you are highly likely to desperately seek the (very expensive) consultation, ebooks, DVD's, audio programs and coaching of said scammers before finally giving up.

    UNLESS of course, you have a particularly strong constitution and are able to sustain the diet for the long term yourself, in which case you have been blessed with parents, grandparents and even ancestors further back who ate nutrient rich, omnivorous diets.

  • @Lakkhesis1976 Fitness and Health are intertwined. You don't have to be elite like Harley but I do believe that you should be very active to achieve a high level of health. Another thing, how did Harley achieve such high levels of fitness when his diet is so shitty and unsustainable? Again if you're going to talk a lot of crap then I would recommend you post some pics or vids of yourself. Otherwise people aren't going to take you seriously because your just a youtube avatar.

    But it's entirely possible to reach levels of 'elite' fitness eating an SAD diet. People do it all the time. People who actually compete, rather than tag along while others train, like Harley does, or boast about winning Thai cycling races where everyone else is riding homemade bikes made out of sticks and tin cans.
