  • This has to be the best cover of "Cold Wind to Valhalla" on YouTube.

  • @broadswordbeast Thank you so much! It has always been a favorite of mine from the Tull catalogue. Ah, but there are many favorites aren't there Broadswordbeast? ;)

(Requiem, Reasons For Waiting, Teacher, Witches' Promise, Life's a Long Song...the list goes on and on...)

  • @amccann7 can't believe I didn't mention Cup of Wonder!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @amccann7 agreed. Tull has to be the only band that doesn't have any songs I don't like. My YouTube name (broadswordbeast) is actually a reference to the Tull album "Broadsword & the Beast". Not the best Tull music on that album, but definitely the best cover artwork.

  • @broadswordbeast Love that illustration! But to me my favorite period of Ian Anderson's work is when he was out to prove himself as a serious competitor; the earlier albums; STAND UP, BENEFIT, HEAVY HORSES, SONGS FROM THE WOOD, MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY, LIVING IN THE PAST,STORMWATCH....these are my great and never boring classics, that express to me the true LION energy!!!

  • @amccann7 I completely agree. Although everything by Tull is good, their earlier stuff where Ian wrote more blues and folk rock rather than their period of electronic rock. All the albums that you mentioned are true Tull classics. They are simply.. masterful.

  • @broadswordbeast still, one of my favorite songs by Ian Anderson & Tull is called "Rocks on the Road" and is from the eighties era.

    ;)

  • @amccann7 I just listened to that. It's great! By the way, you should check out the cover of "cold wind to valhalla" done by kalaghoda. That's my dad!

  • @broadswordbeast awesome, keep the flame of Tull alive! :)

    Amy M

  • @amccann7 I forgot to mention this - I think that you should do a cover of the song "We Used to Know". Based on your other covers, I feel that you would do an outstanding job of this.

    Amy

  • Bravissima .Ciao da Mantova.Male.G.

  • superb

  • Very good! I like your voice and feeling. Kind of medieval which i like and it suits the song well. You play guitar very well but still i wonder how it would sound if you played it in slower pace on zither, lute or something:-) Anyway it is much better than Jethro covers by all these old farts with serious faces.

  • Amazing! Beautiful!

  • @jinthegreen thanks! like your username...

    peace, Amy

  • very nice! love your voice. nice guitar playing too. :)

  • You're basically every male Tull fan's dream girl. COOOL.

  • ¡¡¡¡¡Sencillamente impresionante!!!!!

    Very Good.

  • Very good :) I don't on the whole like Tull covers but have to admit I kinda like yours :) Keep sharing.. please.. :)

    Thanks..

  • I've seen Tull 5 times but I have never heard this song done right by a girl. Awesome!!!

  • @Donn713 happy to be the First, then!

    peace, Amy

  • Checking this out has made staying up late worth it. Love your playing and the guitar sounds great. Hadn't heard the original, but this will do very nicely for me. Thanks for sharing this with us. Simon.

  • @goreedy Thanks Simon

    peace, Amy

  • Amy,

I've heard this song a few times before -- Tull's version. Although I like a lot of their songs, I didn't really like this one..... that is until I heard your version. Now I love this song -- your version of course. What I'm saying is your cover is better than the original, as far as I'm concerned.

  • @miles2083 very sweet of you, my friend.

    Amy

  • Amy, warm greetings from So. Cal. (pun intended).. Intensively performed! I see you played in tuning other than DADGAG and with the capo on the 5th fret. You know what works well for you and it shows. Once again you capture the heart and soul of song and make it your own. I absolutely enjoyed your version of this song and I eagerly await the next JT song, for which I am thrilled that you are doing more of.

  • you have a very nice voice. I enjoyed the video.

  • Gonna get me some Lava Java at Save-With-Dave's on the morrow, me babyfaced friend - sounds like grand stuff.

  • Wooohooo! Nice one indeed Amy! That's one way to keep warm during a blustery February!

  • Very cool!

What a joy to watch you perform.....!

  • Whoa!! sorry, but I'm gonna have to say it . . AWESOME!!

  • @key2kingdom thanks Steve!

    peace, Amy

  • luv it!

  • I can't play that fast and keep it in tempo. That's why all my songs have slow, methodical beats, often in a graceful 3/4.

Of course, I can't sing like you either. :)

So, yes, green (with envy) is a good color.

  • hi!!!very nice!!!! greetings! :)

  • If you could do WONDRING AGAIN... I'd have a heart attack.

  • @PaulHartXYZ in time maybe I will...but pls dont have a heart attack! haha

    You Rock Amy !!

  • Great version of this old Tull gem! Great guitar and vocal! -karl

  • Hi Amy, Great job! This one warmed me up here in the freeze.

    Mark

  • ONe of my all time JT favorites. I tried to play and sing this once upon a time. gave up in utter frustration. I'm very pleased to hear how you did it. great caffeinated accompaniment. does make my fingers hurt thinking about it though.

don't know if you've heard Jack Hicko do it (username "marksecunda"). His voice is remarkably like Ian's. check it out.

  • @troubleclef thanks so much Tony! Yes, i did take a listen to Jack's version; he plays it differently than I do, in DADGAD tuning, which is probably how Ian did it...but I had already been playing it in drop D so I just kept it there, which I think worked out! And of course I had to change from 4th to 5th fret capo to accomodate the vcl.

The coffee was a pre-requisite to keep up the speed!!! haha

    Amy

  • Super cool Amy!!! xoxox

  • @ProgMom67 thanks so much Julie!

    Amy

I wish you all the best, Rosy

  • brilliant playing and performance...

  • Great Amy!!

  • Nice! Amy! I love 12-strings too! :)

  • If you speed it up and play it backwards it sounds like

    Zep's Immigrant song !

    Great cover

  • amazing !!!! was it hard learning the chords?

  • @ylp55 thanks, no, but the rhythm and the lyrics were a bit tricky

  • amazing !!!! was it hard learning the chords?

  • Very lively performance Amy, and played with such confidence. Really very good. :)

  • @PaulSaywood thanks so much my dear friend!

    Goddess Bless you,

    Amy

  • @amccann7 You are really are quite a performer, I admire that, I sometimes wish I had the confidence to sing, as I'd choose songs like this one - it is great :)

  • nice, more tull please

  • @Candoract you're the best; thanks bud!

    Ame xo

  • Nice work ! I forgot to drop a comment earlier.

  • Man, that was awesome. That guitar was smokin'! I never heard this song before, but as usual I dug your performance:) I don't know why Amy, but some parts reminded me of Roy Harper. Off topic a bit, but have you ever heard any of his music? Knowing your musical tastes like I do, I think you'd love Roy Harper!!

    Peace friend,

    J.T.

  • @jt20042 haha, glad you liked it my friend! Yeah I never actually sang it b4 a few days ago; I used to play around with the intro and knew the basics to it; I always loved this song though, so I thought I would try and get it down. And besides, i ve been playing too many somber songs lately! haha,

    have a nice weekend JT!

    Amy

  • @amccann7 also regarding Roy Harper; yeah he's pretty cool. I've seen some of his videos on YT with Jimmy Page. I should check out more about him, thanks for reminding me, I had already thought about pursuing his recordings!

  • a crackle in the fireplace and the sound of mugs of ale clanking amidst the tapping feet !! ohh almost forgot it must be a saturday night too :)

  • @plateau07 awesome imagery, my friend! straight out of Lord of the Rings!

  • Superb as usual, loved it!!!

  • Hi Amy, Another great song from you, I love your guitar playing on this, has a hint of Pagey IMO.

I like the green tint to your video.

    All the Best

    Steve.

  • And again, WOW! Your talent is amazing, Amy, and your guitar playing is out of this world. And to take on this very complicated piece of music, and nail it like you did, just fantastic!

Think I'll pull out my LP of "Minstrel In The Gallery" later on. Haven't listened to my JT albums in a long time!

  • the best minstrel that I have ever met.....

  • A joy to watch and listen to your videos Amy. This was fantastic!!

  • Awesome strumming Amy! Very impressive :) I was a big fan back in the day. I saw their concert "Passion Play". Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories - what I remember anyway :)

    cheers

    julie

  • @buniluvr Wow Julie, that would have been an awesome time to see them live. I saw them once too and it was the best. Ian Anderson is very humorous, theatrical a great showman. Thanks for your great comments always, my friend.

    Amy

  • @amccann7 Amy and Julie, I'd have died to see the A Passion Play tour, my all time favorite album. But in 1975 I did see Tull from the front row. I was 17 and I brought a movie camera. I don't know how to post a video reply here but if you want to see through my eyes it's on YouTube under "Jethro Tull LIVE 1975" with clips of A Passion Play, Thick As A Brick, Aqualung, and even Back Door Angels. I hope you enjoy it. I sure am enjoying Amy's work this fine Saturday morning. Best, - Jeff.

  • I do love your singing so much ...but what really impressed me is your feel on your playing ...just excellent ...true feel and soul there ...wonderful !!

  • Great rendition Amy. Just curious...what kind of strings do you play?

  • @mmatth2194 I use Martin Strings; light gauge

  • Favorited! Amy, you look like you're having a blast!!! Keep jamming!

  • WOW!

  • Great singing and impressive guitar work, Amy! Lovely!

  • You are so blessed to be able to sing and play such beautiful music Amy. This is a great acoustic Tull song. ~ Peace ~ ~

  • Is this what Ulysses saw? I can't turn away!

  • Wicked tune Amy, I luv the finger picking! ~Greg~

  • Bravo. What a difficult song to play. You make it look easy. :-D

  • Amy, I love the way you drive this song with the guitar arrangement. Brilliant. When people ask me how I learned to play guitar so fast, I tell them triple espresso. I sent a video response to one of mine that I really cranked up for the performance. Hope you like it. David

  • @davidhakan thanks so much David, and to ALL; i thank you for your comments;

    Amy

  • Yes, yes, yes,...BRAVO!!! I feel very special, after all, I had just requested some Jethro Tull, and viola, here it is!

  • You rock! I like the almost mandolin-like sound of the guitar on this one and the fingerbrushing strum style.Yes,it's been a cold winter. We had an ice storm in Ohio and it was magically beautiful for those of us who didn't lose their electric. Yet the warmth of your music feels good during this season. Thank you.

  • My enjoyment of your guitar has gone up another notch to 12 :).. on a scale of 10

  • I gotta get me some of that coffee after hearing this :o) Great Amy, you always do the Tull great justice. I remember that album very well too, I think it was the one after Thick As A Brick If I'm not mistaken. Thanks. -Ron

  • Merci du fond du coeur Amy, c'est juste sublime ! speechless...
