@broadswordbeast Thank you so much! It has always been a favorite of mine from the Tull catalogue. Ah, but there are many favorites aren't there Broadswordbeast? ;)
(Requiem, Reasons For Waiting, Teacher, Witches' Promise, Life's a Long Song...the list goes on and on...)
@amccann7 agreed. Tull has to be the only band that doesn't have any songs I don't like. My YouTube name (broadswordbeast) is actually a reference to the Tull album "Broadsword & the Beast". Not the best Tull music on that album, but definitely the best cover artwork.
@broadswordbeast Love that illustration! But to me my favorite period of Ian Anderson's work is when he was out to prove himself as a serious competitor; the earlier albums; STAND UP, BENEFIT, HEAVY HORSES, SONGS FROM THE WOOD, MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY, LIVING IN THE PAST,STORMWATCH....these are my great and never boring classics, that express to me the true LION energy!!!
@amccann7 I completely agree. Although everything by Tull is good, their earlier stuff where Ian wrote more blues and folk rock rather than their period of electronic rock. All the albums that you mentioned are true Tull classics. They are simply.. masterful.
@amccann7 I just listened to that. It's great! By the way, you should check out the cover of "cold wind to valhalla" done by kalaghoda. That's my dad!
@amccann7 I forgot to mention this - I think that you should do a cover of the song "We Used to Know". Based on your other covers, I feel that you would do an outstanding job of this.
I deleted my other accounts so it gives me chance to comment on this again :) This is so beautiful. I just love your version of this and thank you so much for teaching me this one! :}>
Very good! I like your voice and feeling. Kind of medieval which i like and it suits the song well. You play guitar very well but still i wonder how it would sound if you played it in slower pace on zither, lute or something:-) Anyway it is much better than Jethro covers by all these old farts with serious faces.
Checking this out has made staying up late worth it. Love your playing and the guitar sounds great. Hadn't heard the original, but this will do very nicely for me. Thanks for sharing this with us. Simon.
I've heard this song a few times before -- Tull's version. Although I like a lot of their songs, I didn't really like this one..... that is until I heard your version. Now I love this song -- your version of course. What I'm saying is your cover is better than the original, as far as I'm concerned.
Amy, warm greetings from So. Cal. (pun intended).. Intensively performed! I see you played in tuning other than DADGAG and with the capo on the 5th fret. You know what works well for you and it shows. Once again you capture the heart and soul of song and make it your own. I absolutely enjoyed your version of this song and I eagerly await the next JT song, for which I am thrilled that you are doing more of.
That is so cool! Are you planning to see Tull this summer? Come to Red Rocks in Colorado on June 8th, amazing venue, good times and great people here!
ONe of my all time JT favorites. I tried to play and sing this once upon a time. gave up in utter frustration. I'm very pleased to hear how you did it. great caffeinated accompaniment. does make my fingers hurt thinking about it though.
don't know if you've heard Jack Hicko do it (username "marksecunda"). His voice is remarkably like Ian's. check it out.
@troubleclef thanks so much Tony! Yes, i did take a listen to Jack's version; he plays it differently than I do, in DADGAD tuning, which is probably how Ian did it...but I had already been playing it in drop D so I just kept it there, which I think worked out! And of course I had to change from 4th to 5th fret capo to accomodate the vcl.
The coffee was a pre-requisite to keep up the speed!!! haha
@amccann7 You are really are quite a performer, I admire that, I sometimes wish I had the confidence to sing, as I'd choose songs like this one - it is great :)
Man, that was awesome. That guitar was smokin'! I never heard this song before, but as usual I dug your performance:) I don't know why Amy, but some parts reminded me of Roy Harper. And again, WOW! Your talent is amazing, Amy, and your guitar playing is out of this world. And to take on this very complicated piece of music, and nail it like you did, just fantastic!
Think I'll pull out my LP of "Minstrel In The Gallery" later on. Haven't listened to my JT albums in a long time!
Awesome strumming Amy! Very impressive :) I was a big fan back in the day. I saw their concert "Passion Play". Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories - what I remember anyway :)
@buniluvr Wow Julie, that would have been an awesome time to see them live. I saw them once too and it was the best. Ian Anderson is very humorous, theatrical a great showman. Thanks for your great comments always, my friend.
@amccann7 Amy and Julie, I'd have died to see the A Passion Play tour, my all time favorite album. But in 1975 I did see Tull from the front row. I was 17 and I brought a movie camera. I don't know how to post a video reply here but if you want to see through my eyes it's on YouTube under "Jethro Tull LIVE 1975" with clips of A Passion Play, Thick As A Brick, Aqualung, and even Back Door Angels. I hope you enjoy it. I sure am enjoying Amy's work this fine Saturday morning. Best, - Jeff.
I do love your singing so much ...but what really impressed me is your feel on your playing ...just excellent ...true feel and soul there ...wonderful !!
Amy, I love the way you drive this song with the guitar arrangement. Brilliant. When people ask me how I learned to play guitar so fast, I tell them triple espresso. I sent a video response to one of mine that I really cranked up for the performance. Hope you like it. David
You rock! I like the almost mandolin-like sound of the guitar on this one and the fingerbrushing strum style.Yes,it's been a cold winter. We had an ice storm in Ohio and it was magically beautiful for those of us who didn't lose their electric. Yet the warmth of your music feels good during this season. Thank you.
I gotta get me some of that coffee after hearing this :o) Great Amy, you always do the Tull great justice. I remember that album very well too, I think it was the one after Thick As A Brick If I'm not mistaken. Thanks. -Ron
