Have loved this version for a good few years now - it is one of the best. Pleased to see that the number of people who have had a chance to appreciate it has risen a bit...
@guitarfreakirl. Wassup mannnn? why don't you ask P Diddy to make a rap version and have a rap battle with him mannnn! If you don't like the video don't watch it.
I am Irish and I have to say lately I hate the image of my country that's portrayed in these type of videos and any promotional video by Tourism Ireland. It's so BORING. This old style image with old irish tunes played over it. Why can't we remake our image as more modern and hip.
i is irish and so proud this sumes up ar love for song and how much songs can though u in hart mind and body SUAS AN RA" Tiocfaidh Ar La. Oglaigh na hErinn Agus Erin Go Bragh
black is really the color of my true loves hair and she does have the sweetest smile and she does have the gentlest hands, i do love my love and well she does know, but i cant be with her. I do really wish for the day to come, thats why i can relate and love this song so much.
@saintpadraig Technically the 3 tribes that settled around there were from Germany, The Celts, Angles, and the Gaels. The Gaels did come from Ireland, but originally they were from Germany anyway.
Thank you Scotts and Irish for making a song about a black haired girl. Blonde is beautiful and it has been considered the epitomy of feminine beauty in Europe for centuries. So it's nice to hear that someone out there appreciated black hair on a woman instead of associating it's darkness with negativity or ugliness. I don't know too many people other than myself who love black hair.
heard this song many times by the scottish tongue "Hamish imlach" the Irish accent works very well. scenery is fantastic, much like the scottish highlands i love so much, i must visit ireland sometime
nobody knows were the song originates from it could be scottish or Irish ... but what does it matter it is a great song, and that should be all that matters
come to kerry , dingle its a great town for music and great views and you can swim with Fungi the Dingle Dolphin, if the weather if fine you will have a fantastic time. hope the wedding day goes well for you both.
I'd have to say that this woman does this song total and absolute justice. This is how it should be sung, she feels the meaning - doesn't change she to he in the lyrics either. Sounds like she's got a bit of tinker in her voice too. Best version I've heard yet. Am I right or am I right?
A very old song! And always beautiful. The video was stunning. I visited Ireland about 10 months ago. I was quite taken with the beauty of this island. I hadn't been to Europe in 20 years. Quite a change!
It's a Scottish song

Gorgeous images, and lovely composition but the song is from Scotland! "I went down to the Clyde to mourn & weep"?
We have our own tunes surely?

Such an incredible song. I once heard Niamh Parsons sing this live, but with an extra verse that goes like this:
"So fare thee well my own true love
I love you like the stars above
And if heaven or earth, or more I see
I'll ne'er treat you like you treated me"
I was amazed when I heard this. It really makes the song a sad song, and such a sad song. I'm not sure if it is an original verse. Does anyone know?
