Have been wanting to see this dance for decades! Cannot thank you enough for posting it. It was choreographed by Eugene Loring who did many of Cyd's best balletic and classic Spanish dances (Silk Stockings, Meet Me in Las Vegas, Deep in My Heart) and knew her strengths very well. It also shows what a wonderful dancer Ricardo Montalban was.
Hi simikess! Delighted that you liked this "very old movie!" A wonderful Israeli friend sent it to me, and after many weeks of fine tuning, etc. this is the version that we were able to conjure. I'm grateful for your comment!!
Varadero, Sorry I misspelled your name earlier. Sounds like you're very skilled in VHS tapes. Wonder if that's the same as videocassette recorded films? I still have my old VCR player and use it, though DVD's are pretty much the only things available nowadays. I've been looking unsuccessfully to obtain Michael Jackson's "Ghosts" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." Would you have any ideas as to sources?
These videos are priceless. MGM knew how to do it, and it was always done with great taste. Helen Rose, the costume designer at MGM, said the only perfect figure she ever dressed was Cyd. Everything was right, everything was real. Ricardo was charming and a really good man. Sad that now they're both gone, but wonderful that we have these films.
Ricardo Montalban was at his best in his dances with Cyd Charisse. He was extremely handsome and sensual. Cyd Charisse was gorgeous. The two were fantastic together. Neither Gene Kelly nor Fred Astaire had the looks or sexuality of Ricardo Montalban, which makes him one of her best dancing partners.
I agree and second every word of your comment. I saw the movie but ONCE in the begining of the 50th and it took me AGES to find a video or dvd of this movie. I Got it now
The producers obviously agreed with you. Montalban and Charisse were paired in four different films, three of which they danced together: 'Fiesta,' 'On An Island with You,' 'Sombrero,' and 'Mark of the Renegade.' Charisse's stunning dark beauty often led the producers to cast her as Latina in her early films, and costarring Montalban- who was closer to her age than Astaire or Kelly (and clearly a hunk)- was something of a no-brainer. Well done.
One of the most fascinating dance numbers they did together! Cyd Charisse was always great as a dancer and Ricardo(SIGH!! Do I really need to comment?)... Thanks a million for posting this video!!
Great dancing by two legends...Ricardo & Cyd.....Loved it.....

I have never seen this movie. This is fantastic!

This is what real dance is. Most of today's dancers just don't have it. Ricardo was quite handsome in this. Great pairing of dance partners.
Thanks for posting.

Oh my, I love the fire & dancing in this & expect to view it many times. Great job of restoring the tape, and thank you for putting it on YouTube!
I plan to work my way thru all the Montalban, and Charisse, videos and some of the Gene Kelly, Jane Powell and maybe Rita Moreno videos. Thanks again.
