And, by 1944, Max Fleischer no longer HAD a studio; Paramount foreclosed on it in January 1942- after the dismal box office failure of "Mr. Bug {Hoppity} Goes To Town"- turning it into "Famous Studios", and kicking all the Fleischer brothers out. Max was working for Jam Handy in Detroit, helping him produce animated "commercial" and industrial films, while Dave was "supervising producer" at Columbia's "Screen Gems" animation unit in Hollywood.
I believe this very cartoon is what contributed to the creativity I have today. When I was little, my favorite thing about watching this was how he makes all these things out of random items around the house.

It's going to sound horrilbe, but when I was like 5 years old. I didn't know these kids were in an orphanage and I use to laugh when the kids toys were braking especially the Teddy Bear.
But, then when I found out I started feeling bad for them.:(
My favorite part of this is when the guy makes things out of the kitchen wear.lol
I think it might be called "Somewhere in Dreamland". Look it up on here, it's sad too. IT's about two kids who are poor and they are looking at food in the windows, then they Dream of living in a land of food. But when they wake up people got together and made them a feast. I love that cartoon also.
This cartoon has ALWAYS made me cry, even now when I'm 24! Prof. Grampy saves Christmas for those poor kids. This cartoons always reminds me to be grateful for what I have, and to not act like a spoiled brat. Younger kids today could learn something from these old cartoons!
The Fleischer boys loved inventions and Max Fleischer has many inventions to his credit, including the rotoscope-which enabled animators to trace live-action footage for some scenes. They had a special fondness for creative types like Grampy, who was in many later Betty Boop cartoons.
I always wondered how they achieved those animation effects in these types of cartoons. Also this particular cartoon always reminded me of how good I had it when I was a kid!
My granny had a Betty Boop video that i watched everytime i spent the night or went for a visit. Then one day i got a Christmas VHS with differnt cartoons and saw this one on there. I couldn't remember where i had seen Grampy and it was on that Betty Boop video my granny had. So i would take this every year with me over to her house and watch it together with the family on Christmas Day.
This cartoon is actually from 1936, By 1944, Max & Dave Fleischer were no longer working together, while 1944 audiences would have been shocked seeing Grampy waste all that precious material when there was a war going on.
WTH!? Even then they were plagued with crappy imported toys from CHINA!!!

This was made in a time where many people would actually care for those in need. It's sad that those times are over.

I am just tickled pink to find this video! I always thought that grampy was pretty darn "green" for his time (reduce, recycle, REUSE).
