Thats the general gist of the passage but Jesus wasn't really meant to just simply die for sin but to suffer for sin.

In my opinion, people that are not in a position to hear about Jesus are there because man caused it to be so. People in religiously oppressive countries (China, anywhere in the MiddleEast, etc) might never hear the Gospel because their govt made it illegal, a sad but man made damnation. I know the Bible says "Jesus died so no man is with excuse". if people go their whole life without hearing about the gospel do they go to hell? YES, normally, Everyone is going to hell.(Romans 5:12: Romans 3:23) and we cant do nothing to be saved by ourself. because the Justice of God is RIGHT and the Justice of God condemns whoever sin.(1 John 3:4 ) But God send us his son ( gift ) (John 3:16; Romans 5:8,Jn 3:18 ) we receive that gift ONLY if we accept it.(ephesians 2:8). We have the choice (1 Jn 5:12 ). But i think you know that already
