  • Minecraft has over 8000 (!!1!1I!) vids on Youtube and they're a major factor in it's success IMO. MC also uses GetSatisfaction, which you probably already know :)

  • @saladasalad *of course* I know the folks over at Mojang. They're good people!

  • well....after anxiously waiting for last night's show.....nothing. :(...thanks for the FB add, though I still had to whine here LOL. cheers, keep up the good work! greg

  • @fiftyleven ? I did the live show yesterday.

  • @flawedartist ..I must have missed the where part.......my bad.

  • I'm a community manager, but I don't vlog for the company i work for. However, I can see that being a really good idea. I completely agree that watching someone talk on a video -- in a conversational manner -- makes you feel a bit more personal than just reading a blog.

Personally I'm still trying to figure out what my personal "brand" on the internet it. When people google my name (which is somewhat unique) what do I want them to find? Maybe I'll explore this more in 2011 =)

  • @swanlilly Awesome!! Which company do you work for (if you don't mind me asking).

RE: Online identity - if you need pointers shoot me a YT message. I've worked on my online presence for a good 10 years or so and would be happy to share some of what I've learned.

  • I love the way that just a few short months ago you were promoting craig and getting us to spam him so he would make a video every day, and now you use him as an example of someone who's "internet famous."

i also find this fascinating because I've recently thinking about trying to get a job after college using social media to make the world a better place.

P.S. Your little brother is incredibly handsome! No surprise there.

  • @elffia I know. Dude went and got all internet famous on us (and rightfully so!)

Hehehe.. yes, the brother is a cutie and a total gentleman when it comes to the ladies. He's an awesome guy. Very proud to be his older (yet smaller) sister.

  • Hehe, you're funny!

  • Well I have a background in Photography and Film and I used youtube to promote things like society groups and night events which was nice and fun to be creative, but I felt limited because it was for a client or colleague. As Photography was my mainstream area for the past 4 years, I felt my video work needed focus again so I started vlogging to get the enjoyment back. Nowadays whenever I go to events, I don't just photos, but videos as well so I got more to play with in both fields that I love.

  • A smart woman who can cook and sing ( and is very easy on the eyes ). Marry me. Just kidding, you are too good for me!

  • @bibbeny I read that as "too old for me" HA HA HA

  • @getsatisfaction Not by the gray hair on my chinny chin chin! LOL

  • I have no idea what Threadless or any of that is. I should probably check it out. :D

  • can we suggest costumes?

  • @pete275 I thought that was a given!

  • Morgan, your brother is almost as beautiful as your voice.

I'm very excited for your live-show! You realise that we've all missed you too much to want to watch you suffer at our hands. We're just glad to have you back! (You are back--right?)

  • You have a fantastic singing voice! At least within the range of Happy Birthday! I vote for a karaoke video =)

  • @Streamwolf8 Hahaha... thank you :)

  • Your job sounds fascinating, I'd love to work in that field. What kind of educational/career background do you have? I definitely agree that video integration is a great idea, one company that does it well is Threadless, if you haven't check out the vimeo page. They're worth a look.

  • @DigitalCable My schooling background is all in 2nd art. The knowledge I acquired for work I learned through doing.

Getting into Community Management can be relatively easy if you're good with people. There's nothing stoping you from doing what I do. :)

I will check out Threadless - I haven't spent much time on Vimeo as it seems that community is more centered around film making than anything else.

  • @flawedartist That's cool, I'll have to start researching some companies in Seattle that are similar.

Threadless in general has their shit together, they have a collaborative community, great web presence twitter/ facebook etc, good SEO and their videos are really fun. They're a great overall web 2.0 model to point to when describing a company doing it right. I think they have a youtube channel too but it's not updated as much a their vimeo.

  • I've never really thought of twitter, facebook, etc. in opposition to video. Since my social media experience really started with youtube, the others have always just been an extension of that. I do agree that youtube is an excellent way to connect and build a community quickly.

I'm excited for the live show!

  • @shakes1327 Fascinating... The tech industry (at least from what I've observed) sees it very differently.

Which is also interesting since my first exposure to online community was via IRC chat rooms waaaaay back in the early 90's. I'm OLD.

  • @flawedartist Okay, youtube wasn't my *first* experience. I spent many years in various forums and message boards. But youtube was the first time I felt the desire to become really involved myself. It was also the first platform that encouraged me to branch out to other forms of social media... twitter, dailybooth, last.fm, tumblr... I use all of those as a result of my experience in the youtube community.

  • @shakes1327 Is it silly that I'm intensely curious about this? You're roughly my sister's age, and she has a VERY different view on social media. I guess what I'm saying is thank you for sharing :) Since I work in the field, I'm always curious to hear peoples stories behind why they're interested in and using social media.

I'm not only old, but a complete nerd ;P

  • Man. Your family has some good genes.

Also, I don't really believe in the notion of punishment for being gone... because what people want is to have you back (I'm using "you" in the general sense to mean "any video maker who's been gone.") However, I think that's an excellent idea because it's not really a punishment, just an extra part of your program. Now I only have to think of things for you to make...

  • I really like what you said about online video communities. :D Also, I sadly will be away from my computer when your live show happens, but I hope you have fun. :D I also find it incredible that justin TV is still in use! hahaha

  • I'm a fan :D I enjoy watching your video's a lot :D Also, what time is 12 PDT for me? (I live in England) x

  • i made your pumpkin pie! it was sucsess

  • Big sisters can be so "mean" Hehe (Snowman pic was awesome)

    27 is a great year though! ;)

Hope I can make it to your live show, sounds like fun!

  • I kinda got started to put up old shorts and video projects ... and then I started vlogging ... and I was also thinking that I could make cool shorts and perhaps get some attention from them.

Live cooking show?! Hrm ... I'd LOVE to show up ... but I will either have build for the play I'm assistant directing or I'll be home because of orthodontia stuff ...

    Happy 27th to your bro!

    - Jason

  • I feel like i'm connecting with you when I watch your videos :D
