thanks dave. amazing how going 4 ish months without tying a fly lowers your skills. i found this hard for some reason, mabey my fingers are getting fat. anyway, not your fault. thanks!
i mean cousin Steven...soz a seen the word nephew 2 seconds before i started typing and a typed nephew by mistake, i told my dad that you would PM me your number. i'll get my dad to phone you soon....Cousin Steven...
My dad is Billy Whalen (your cousin) you used to tie flies for GamesportOfAyr....im his son...ive been tying your flies for a while and wasnt till 5mins ago that i told my dad i was tying your flies then he said "Aye he's ma cousin" haha a like your flies could you tie a Black Zulu as i cant get the tinsle quite right
do you still live in Ayr? i tied one of your nymphs 5mins ago, i would be more than delighted to come over and get a few tips on how to tie flies, i have added you on facebook.
As always, the wonderful work you do. I miss your buzzer? I would like to see the Buzzer Quilled Voltage Lite-Brite buzzer. Could you show this once buzzer? And I sure other people would be very pleased once again to see such a buzzer.
Is there anywhere in Glasgow i can go fly fishing during jan/feb/mar?
I am a complete novice at the fly game so wouldn't want to travel far and pay fortunes at this stage. Also what length of backing, fly line and leader/tippet do you recommend? (I have a floating line WF) I need somewhere to get my cast going!!! (Any excuse to get on the water, lol.)
Your help and advice would be grately appreciated.
The only places that I know which are worth fishing at this time of year where you would get a cast are the trout fisheries and are mostly outside Glasgow so you would have to travel to them.I would put on at least 30 to 50 yards of backing on the reel and a cast length about a foot less that the full length of the rod.It may be worth while asking at your nearest tackle shop to find our where you can fish as they should be able to help you more than me. Always great work from you. I always look forward to the next video. I seem to learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. My tying ability has increased exponentially since I started watching your videos.
That is another nice looking fly, I really like using black pheasant tail as a body, very natural looking. I find the breathers do sometimes makes a big difference.
