  • those informations were very useful..... thank you for that..

  • i dont use trend micro.... well because it picks up to many flase positivists and fail to detect any payloads from what i created "The Archive From Hell" and it added 30 seconds to my laptops boot time

  • @TheDougtechcrew - Starting with its latest release this year, TrendMicro uses cloud computing to handle the bulk of the antivirus processing on their server instead of on your machine. For me it works quietly in the background and I haven't had a successful malware attack in the last four years I've been using it.

Whatever you are using, I hope your computer is protected by something effective because otherwise you're also putting at risk the computer of anyone you send emails or files to.

  • @christineglamazon finally a woman who knows what she is talking about

  • @TehPinkGuyLoL - Yo may actually need to *pay* for a full working version. Call tech support!

  • also how to use it save,do a condom all around it,:)

  • `hai this is mohammed from india want to thanks for my whole life for uploading this video

  • but you're a woman!

  • @katakis1 - So? So was my mother, and she was among the first wave of female computer programmers in the insurance, banking and other corporate IT sectors in the early 1970s. Being *smart* helps in programming, so being a woman is actually a major advantage! :)

  • the virus on my computer won't let me open that up.. this stupid bullshit called "Security Tool" keeps popping up messages saying things like, "mmc.exe is infected with worm Lsas.Blaster.Keyloger. This worm is trying to send your credit card details using mmc.exe to connect to remote host." then it says the way to make it go away is if i register.. and that costs money, which i don't have. is Security Tool a virus thing?

  • The "Security Tool" is actually a trojan horse. DO NOT click on the popup or give it personal info because that is the trick to getting you to give up your own info.

When you get a message like that, google the message. When I google "mmc.exe" the 3rd entry was: "File Information - How to remove mmc.exe error problem" which confirmed what you have is malware. If your own security software can't remove it go to a *reputable* source and download some. As others have said Avast is good & free.

  • Avast gives too many false positives

    I recommend Avira or esetnod32

  • I use: Avast! home editon + MalwareBytes Anti-Malware with IP protection + SUPERAntispyware free edition.

Dont think anyone can get intro my computer

And you forgot to tell about another metod hackers use: Remote Administrator tools.

  • avast is the only anti virus you need, it has everything built into to it and their is a free version of this software to download. highly recommended by me.. :)

  • Certainly I've heard good things about Avast, but I notice it doesn't have firewall protection. Also, I wonder about system performance impact. MacAfee and Norton slowed my PC down so much they were almost as bad as getting infected. Trend Micro is much better in terms of performance.

  • Actually avast is no longer free. The antivirus part is still there but you have to pay for anti-spyware and other full protection. Also once you load on the free part it starts popping up messages saying that you have spyware — which are usually harmless tracking cookies — and need to upgrade to the full *paid* version.

If you have to pay for full protection anyway, I'd strongly suggest TrendMicro. (And, no, I'm not a paid spokesperson; a safer Internet is in everybody's interest.)

  • mmhhh i like it when you talk so "technical" :D A router with a hardware firewall should be the first step....it blocks the most common ports which are used by intruders, very well explained in the vid Babes :-)

    muah xoxox

  • Great video. The only virus's I have ever had were from a University shared computer (The crack-whores of computing, ALWAYS use protection! lol) and from an attachment a friend sent me in a mail. He didn't know he was infected. That was the awful virus that reset the PC all the time. Since then, I've been careful and have a good virus and firewall protection.

That GRC site is great. Their "SpinRite" desk checker is also an excellent product! Full HDD diagnostic software, REALLY good! :)

  • Steve Gibson (of GRC) and I went to the same high school four years apart. I remember even the teachers were something in awe of him back them.

  • I've been using Bit Defender. It's pretty good medicine.

  • but what would be the best free ant v soft wear you can download and how do you download it/???

  • Free? I don't know. The security of my PCs and all of my work is worth $40 a year to me.

  • Avast! 4.8 Pro,Malwarebytes,Comodo Firewall. Great paid anti virus,Great Firewall and Great Anti-Malware. Avast! 5 Security Center comming soon and its will rock. Trend Micro is nothing compared to Avast!

  • Everybody has their preference. I have not had one successful virus attack or spyware invasion since I started using Trend Micro three years ago. The important thing is that people protect their computers.

  • you protect your pc by putting your ip online? i will test your security these days:P

  • It's a dynamic IP assigned by Time-Warner Cable, so it's not going to get you very far. But go ahead and knock yourself out if you haven't anything better to do with your time. :)

  • What is your opinion on Avira anti virus ? good? bad ??

  • If you're asking me, I've never used it, so I couldn't say. If you have a question for one of the people who've commented here, I'd suggest writing directly to them for a faster answer.

The important thing in any anti-malware program is a good track record (meaning it's been around long enough for there to be user feedback), and an ability to frequently, automatically update its own virus definitions.

  • Was just asking for your opinion . i use it and think it is great ...You seem to know your computers was just wondering what your take on Avira was ...But you haven't used it lol.

  • Well, when you're happy with what you got, why spend money on trying out new software that may or may not work as well? I've already lost a hard drive to a virus because my old AV (MacAfee) didn't catch it, so I'm not really into trying to fix what isn't broke when the consequences could be nasty.

  • I wasn't planning on changing . was just asking fo your opinion on Avira thats all....Im surprised macfee did not catch the virus it's one of the top ones But that happens i guess .

  • I'm being honest on everything im about to type. I was a "teenage botmaster" end quote, the industry is dynamic and always changing. What would be considerd "Valuable" in the underground bot market was none NAT'd machines, anything in front of a router or firewall was deemed useless. Why? because they couldnt be rented to "Everyday" spammers that would use proxys, but nowdays this isnt the case due to spam templates. If you're behind a NAT you most likely will be bulked with adware to gen $.

  • Thanks for the info. To those who don't know what NAT it, it stand for Network Address Translation and it takes a local IP address and "translates" it so it may be accessed from an outside network.

  • Thanks :) I learned alot about all that nasty ****

ps you just gave everyone your ip...

  • Mine is a dynamic ip plus I'm behind a double firewall, so I invite any techno delinquents to take a stab at it. Soon or later I'll perfect this Black Ice software and then they'll really be screwed.

  • so you cant get viruses and spywear without downloads?

  • No, they can also come in email attachments as well. I suggest you watch my video again, also read the Microsoft primer on malware. See the link to the right.

  • so i i havent downloaded anything will deleting all my cookies do me any good

  • Cookies are not executable programs and thus not malware, per se. They are text data that websites store on your computer to keep track of information about you, often for useful purposes. Cookies can be exploited to track your websurfing habits, usually for targeting advertising toward you, and thus may be an invasion of privacy, however they can't harm your PC like a virus can. Your best form of protection is to install an a comprehensive security program and to regularly scan for spyware.

  • GREAT INFO!

    thanks

  • help! i have Trojans and ad ware and spy ware what do i do to get them out and not pay or register?

  • Anti-spyware program Ad-aware has a free version. See the link in the Info section to the right of the video. However, it's so dangerous to go online without antivirus software it can cost you more in lost time and computer repairs than just buying the software. Furthermore, you're putting all your family & friends online, everyone you exchange emails and files with, at risk for infection. Do everyone a favor and save up for TrendMicro.

  • the thing is, Im using linux yet find your video "interesting" ^_^

  • Hi Christine,

here is a tip on how to record screen images. watch?v=Kiug3H3c4gk

    C U

  • You're right and wrong. You're pretected by ScriptKiddies, not hackers. If he/she has a brain he will rootkit. You will not see any registry keys, any .exe drops or anything connection in netstat.

  • Avoid scams

All spam emails/unsolicited phone calls/Checks/Money Orders/letters and faxes are

    scams.

As a general rule - ANYTHING involving Western Union/money

    gram = Scam.

If you sell stuff online.. Accept Cash or paypal only.

If you buy stuff online.. Use Paypal only. NEVER(ever) give out your personal

information to strangers online or offline! Do not click on a link embedded within any potentially suspicious email. Always be on guard.Beware of Fake Checks.

  • All very good advice. Thanks!

  • This is an amazing video! I personally use a Macintosh and haven't had anything wrong with it since the day I got it, but my mother and sister are always have something wrong with their computers! =( Those are great tips to protect PCs! I will make sure they see this video and get those softwares! =)

    Thank you so much! =D

  • Nice video..

IMO Trend Micro is the worst peace of antivirus I'ver ever seen.. It detecs nothing. I made a test. You can have a look at it if you want. Nothing professional, but it shows very good, that Trend Micro detects nearly nothing. Even if it detected something it couldn't fix it.

    But once again.. nice video

  • I have not had a successful virus attack in the two years I've used Trend Micro, which is good enough for me. I watched your video and really couldn't tell much, for instance if your virus definitions were up to date or not, because so much it was out focus and there was no narration or subtitles, just a music soundtrack. However anyone is free to look at your vid and judge for themselves.

  • Got any freeware solution advice for someone with a Mac? There is most definitely something wrong with my new laptop and I've only ever owned PC's so I have nooo idea how to fix this! x[

btw, Thankx for the great informational video!! :D [5/5]

  • Sorry, but I know next to nothing about Macs. Try searching for videos about Mac help here and on Google. Thanks for the kudos!

  • very interesting.

i must say one thing tho, i have used very anti virus and spyware remover

the best spyware remover i come across

webroot spysweeper it even detects trojans.

and best antivirus would be Avg,

and finally firewall.. i must agree

    2 firewalls.

    hardware, and software.

and another thing i agree with is common sense

use these all above and no one can touch you.

  • Get a MAC

  • Macs & PCs both have strengths and weaknesses. PCs are better suited to what I use computers for, Mac is a better choice for others. I am not going to permit these comments to become a Mac vs PC forum, so if anyone intends to start that debate here, don't bother.

  • To have a secured PC one needs to have a little brain with a little common sense.Few basic rules to follow are don't use internet with admin account.Set a S/W firewall like sygate and have an updated antivirus installed.Keep your browser updated Scan files before opening which are downloaded from sites especially from porn/warez sites.I had been using internet for about 8 years without any major threat rooted into my system. From my experience i could say CA/Avast are the best in class.

  • Thanks. Hard time finding good spyware.

  • Another reason I like TrendMicro, it just automatically renewed my subscription aftering notifying me for over a week it was going to do so. Good, that's one more thing I don't need to take the time to do. In the two years I've been using PC-cillin, I've never been hacked, virused or been prey to other serious malware. A very happy TM customer!

  • jonny i agree on spy bot super anti spy wear

    n avast

the others i wodulnt bother with runing to many will corse blue screans. DO NOT use spy doctor anything called doctor tends to be dodgy even if the on eu have is good there will be a lot of fake ones. there is also a fake version of spybot but the real search and destroy one is fantastic. also try AVG

  • Hi I'm Johnny I have been in the computer Industry for less than 2 years lol.

Hey but i would recommend freeware antispyware

    A-Squared

    Spybot Search & Deystroy

    Ad-Aware 2007

    Spyware Blaster

    Spyware Doctor

Last but not least Superantispyware finds what others miss.

    and Freeware Antivirus only AVAST

  • I did post an outline next to the camera lens to help keep me on track, but to answer your question I've been doing computers since 1973. So yes, I know my stuff. Hope you found it helpful!

  • Is she reading this from something lol?

If not, she knows her stuff.

  • ive been looking videos like this months and i found it its really good it helped me alot

  • Security is #1

I have Avira anti virus. and online Armor. and that's help alot.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for refreshing my memory. I have been out of the tech industry for 3 years and have forget about adaware. Thanks so much for the advice

  • gr8 advice multo grazia

  • I am very thankful to get such important information from a such qualified person in this field and in the same time out of the mouth of such a beautiful woman.

  • Thank you for the compliment, hon. Glad to be of help when I can.

  • Interesting..

May I have a question for you ?

Actually I could use automatic updates of my anti-virus software..

I have to update it by manual.I mean day by day..update over and over... so annoying

Yes updating your old one to new one is so

    annoying.

Is there any good anti-virus software that does not need updates? or provide automatic updates ?

I forgot about updates often so my laptop should end up as walking zombie or warehouse of worms.

Glad for seeing you doing this.

  • All antivirus/spyware software needs to be updated because the creeps writing malware are always cooking up new versions. I use the Automatic setting so that I do not forget to do the updates. All it takes is for the wrong bug to infect my machine and I could lose all of my data in a blink.

  • Hello there Castlerrock! I would like to recommend a free good antivirus and antimalware program, well actually two :) First you could test Avg cuse it`s free and it works really good and it doesnt bother you anyway. Second i would like to talk bout Avast! Home edition this one is the best one in my opinion becuse it got many shield modules. (Both Have auto-updating mecanism build in) Have a nice day. :P

  • Nice job! I'm wondering what inspired you to produce this.

  • The ISP that hosts my personal website was hit with a Denial of Service attack last month. Also, no matter how many times I admonish my friends, some of them still send out mass emails with everybody's address in plain view. People don't seem to be aware that doing this helps perpetuate spam for everybody.

  • Zombie computers, is that sorta like "phishers" on myspace where someone or something somehow, someway, stills your password, and use your account to spam and advertise to your friends pretending to be you when obviously it's not. that is soooooo anoying! anyways thanx for the advice, some people are not up to date with computers.

  • Thanks for your advice dear.
