I love this song, and would love to have a copy of the lyrics. Does anyone know where I can track them down? I went to the folkways site and checked the liner notes to no avail...
What else could sound so good then this music.. I miss my grandparents so much. I have heard these songs so manytimes at Pilgram rest old regular church at price KY.. Proud grandson of Woodrow and Monnie Dye of printer KY..
I grew up in eastern Kentucky. My childhood home was very close to an Old Regular Baptist church. During the summer months on the 4th Sunday of the month with the church windows open wide this music was to become a wonderful childhood memory. Little did I realize how much this would come to remind me of my home in the hills.
I've grown up in the Old Regulars in eastern KY, and attended many associations. I particularly enjoy hearing the sweet singing ring through the mountains during a Memorial service or the like.
Wow. This brings back so many memories of sitting in a little church outside Ironton, Ohio. Congregation was small, sometimes only 5 or 6 people. Only church I ever attended that seemed in touch with God. Not that none of others weren't...I just didn't feel it. The name of the church was "Old Regular Primitive Baptist Church in Jesus Christ" It was in Pine Grove, Ohio. God Bless you all!
id like to know if any one who listens to this knows a old regular baptist preacher named brother melvin watts he was born in line fork kentucky and came to springboro ohio he was my grandpa he passed away in 1996 I LOVE YOU PAPA ILL SEE U SOME DAY!!!!!!!
This old time sining from the Old Primitive Baptists brings back so many memories of my childhood and even as a young adult. I joined the Church but when I seperated from my wife I was turned out. But GOD knows my heart and HE will judge . I still love the doctrine and singing. Sometimes the singing was more of a Blessing than the preaching.
@blondekaylee22 .They also still sing very similar to this in the Scottish Western Isles.Type in Gaelic Psalms at Back free church to see just how similar
This style is still done on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland only in gaelic.

My dad was a preacher here in Knott County. These songs bring back a lot of memories. We lived in Quick Sand / Decoy.

@skankintoe Depends on which church you go to. There are a lot of Old Reg. Churches out there and lots are still full of the spirit of God and strong

The origins of soul music. And as someone here hints, it originated in the Western Isles of Scotland. Slaintje! The Gaelic Scots invented pop music.

You know this goes against the original Old Regular Baptist beliefs.
We dont believe in making money from a gift of the Lord or from praising the Lord.
Not the posting or sharing of it but the selling of the singing.
