For me, any sense of accomplishment in the game would come from raiding hardmodes and that will never happen because guilds require wow to be your life. At least back in BC you could be semi hardcore and see the content. Now if you are in between hardcore and cause you get stuck in the lol easy content. Basically the welfare system made the rich richer and poor poorer, just like in real life.
my shammy mate and i went to winterspring to grind the eye of shadow for a priest friend, i got 50 shards and a shit ton of food, we were prepared for a long ass grind with no yield (0.001) drop rate.
so we got there and killed the 1st demon and it dropped, we were stunned and shocked, it was amazing, went back to winterspring to fly back to org (helped a hunter with his quest on the way ( 1 person quest only stupid hunter) so we gave it to our priest and HE NEVER RAN MC, what a waste.

You needed rank 10 for epic pvp gear, which took a crap ton of work. Dungeon tier 2 took a long time to farm and then costly to upgrade, which also took time. Raiding was dedicating yourself with another 39 other people and you didn't go to get gear because the Wrath of the Lich King fags came later.

Having played several other games, the BoP is definitely a good move from Blizzard. So many other games, "epic" gears are being sold with real currency, just like the WoW BoE setting sites. Or some junkie can sit in Stormwind and shuffle the Auction House and never raid, but can still acquire gears from raids with gold. That's would be rather a poor game design.

its more that 40 man raids were epic huge engagements and nothing has come close to that with 25 man raids (and now 10 mans giving the same loot). 40 people fighting massive lava golems was just epic, compared to 10 people killing Arthas / Deathwing.
The sense of accomplishment you used to get from downing bosses in Vanilla and BC were so much better than any feeling you'll get now from downing a boss which is doable in 3 different modes, I remember guilds spending months just trying to Kill Archimonde and Vashj. I agree completely about what you say about the quality of items, although it can still be hard to aquire loot from Heroic raid bosses, which require a guild and coordinated non "wrath kid" players.

It's epic compared to th average shmuck. PCs are well above the thousands of normal people in the world. RPG game mechanics 101. You're also taking game mechanics as a direct representation of the lore, which they aren't. Certain liberties need to be taken to make it a functional game. As an example,. players can die repeatedly. Cairne cannot.
@EricWolfborn Lengthy gear grinds are fine. The reason Blizzard has to constantly roll out new raids every 20 minutes is indicative of the speed at which players breeze through them. Working up to the level at which one can take on the next raid is part of the challenge, and extends the playtime offered by content. MMOs are by nature time sinks. The idea of speeding them up is counterproductive product design and devalues content for the player and company.

Also, gearing up vanilla style had a lot of charm to it. And in fact the only reason why epics were epics was because it worked like it did. Items were so hard to get so getting one was awesome, and epics were epic. (Paladin gear didn't drop for horde until the very last month of vanilla (2.0 patch) when gear was going to be replaced very soon anyway as well)
I usually agree with what you say crendor. But not this time. The middle part was perhaps true, but I don't agree with the rest. BoP might not make sense "RP wise", but then again, not much in the game does, and it exists for a reason. Otherwise the server economies would just get screwed over. People would just buy gold to get the best gear and then quit. Fun? No. But people are idiots.
What I personally enjoyed about vanilla was that it was hard to become somebody. Gear was hard to get which means your performance in PvE and PvP was always limited to your current gear months at a time until you got an upgrade. So getting somewhere and becoming known and actually matter in the game was hard. It was worth the time you would put into it. Going PvE meant taking half a year, or more, to get full epics and going for rank 14 gear meant same 6 months to get full epics.
ah it was fun back then ...the hole server was conected and you had to travel to the spot "instance or bg gates ..and all the world pvp at the mill and x-roads :D.

Bop & Boe are in place for a reason. If the only drops from Lich King were Boe, then everyone would've had them, making the actual raiding guilds that go in there to get the items... Rich as hell. Erego destroying in-game economy. BoP was in place for those reasons. I Agree with the quality portion though. It's dumb how some greens are better than epics, they need to drop the epics that are out-of-date down to greens, so the confusion stops.
the gear system in WoW is probably the worst I've seen in an RPG system. the whole intent to make people grind and the end goal once people hit max level is ridiculous. the fact that you have to explain to a new player what soulbound means demonstrates such a horrid concept. the worst part is that vender gear has no meaning meaning at all past level 6. why even bother putting venders into the game?

Legendary isn't even f***ing legendary anymore, hell did you know that there is a sword in cata that is labeled as a green requires lvl 81 and its stats WIPE the the floor when you compare it to shadowmourne the damn legendary that would take weeks to get!
@Evision5 This happens with every expansion. The same happened with Thunderfury when BC came out and with the Warglaives when WoTLK came out. I mean, you could always scale them with level or something, but then what would be the point of getting new weapons if you'd already have a legendary?
@TehTyg13 I'm not saying keep the thing viable for the entire next expansion. Just have it so you don't have to completely go green for at least a lvl or 2 when you are wearing heroic gear. Like say i went through a heroic raid from last expansion, a new expact comes out and in one 3 part quest chain (3 quests) i get greens that are instantly better stat wise from the heroic gear. I mean can i have at least a little edge over the people that didn't raid for at least one lvl ?

I know it's an old video, but supposedly the lore-explanation for the inability to sell "Soul-bound" gear is that it's literally bound to your soul/spirit/self by magical means.
Bind on Pickup would mean that by grasping said magical item it would infuse with your character and become part of him.
Doesn't explain how you can vendor them as trash though, but it does explain why you can't trade or auction them.
The way they should solve the epic gear thing is by making alot more legendary gear like legendary armor and stuff with like a 4 month quest line to get T14 legendary armor like you have to do for any legendary weapon. BTW dragonwrath is overpowered even though nobody has it yet

What I personally enjoyed about vanilla was that it was hard to become somebody. Gear was hard to get which means your performance in PvE and PvP was always limited to your current gear months at a time until you got an upgrade. So getting somewhere and becoming known and actually matter in the game was hard. It was worth the time you would put into it. Going PvE meant taking half a year, or more, to get full epics and going for rank 14 gear meant same 6 months to get full epics.

@Keithyw They put them in for casual players. People who don't actually want to learn all the stuff associated with the game, yet still want to play to have fun. Do you remember the first time you played? Running through towns just to see what the fuck was going on? The game was intriguing.. When you hit lvl 80, or 85 as is now, all of that fun went away, it was then you started worrying about gear. Remember? Lol

@GoWWoWGOD Are you kidding? Because spending forever leveling is so realistic..... Gear is still pretty hard to get in raids and the bosses are still very though. Gear is easy to get from vendors so people everyone can actually do raids and not just the people with no lives.

Bop & Boe are in place for a reason. If the only drops from Lich King were Boe, then everyone would've had them, making the actual raiding guilds that go in there to get the items... Rich as hell. Erego destroying in-game economy. BoP was in place for those reasons. I Agree with the quality portion though. It's dumb how some greens are better than epics, they need to drop the epics that are out-of-date down to greens, so the confusion stops.

the gear system in WoW is probably the worst I've seen in an RPG system. the whole intent to make people grind and the end goal once people hit max level is ridiculous. the fact that you have to explain to a new player what soulbound means demonstrates such a horrid concept. the worst part is that vender gear has no meaning meaning at all past level 6. why even bother putting venders into the game?

not only "How do they know?" but What is the difference between the auctioneer and the npc salesman? I mean i can sell to Donni Anthania -Crazy Cat Lady- for example but NOT the auction house? How does that work? Isn't it bound to MY soul? how can a vendor buy it then? wouldn't they have to break the binding then? and then after that couldn't i just sell it on the AH? what about making servers specially for each kind of player with different difficulties. Rp server could have almost instant access to sweet looking gear. Hardcore servers could requir alot of time raiding, where being epic, truely means you're epic. Casual servers could be...yeah casual, for players that likes to spent some time in their weekends playing with friends.
hardcore servers.

Rp servers.
instead of just calling it a different server blizzard, really make it.

@Deletervirus on top of that, being in a trusted guild to make runs like that would bring back a piurpose to guilds restoring order, take out soulbound and bring back a purpose to a guild let ppl make thier rich to use in thier own way, and for the non-grinders can buy the epics if the price is right, doing this one thing could really bring back the fun in the game, but what fun is it selling materials that takes forever gathering and can only get the items based on the profession

i think how it works for BoP items is you try to trade or sell it to another player is it sort of...magically comes back to you somehow. i dont see why you can still vendor it though.

Legendary isn't even f***ing legendary anymore, hell did you know that there is a sword in cata that is labeled as a green requires lvl 81 and its stats WIPE the the floor when you compare it to shadowmourne the damn legendary that would take weeks to get!

@Evision5 This happens with every expansion. The same happened with Thunderfury when BC came out and with the Warglaives when WoTLK came out. I mean, you could always scale them with level or something, but then what would be the point of getting new weapons if you'd already have a legendary?

@TehTyg13 I'm not saying keep the thing viable for the entire next expansion. Just have it so you don't have to completely go green for at least a lvl or 2 when you are wearing heroic gear. Like say i went through a heroic raid from last expansion, a new expact comes out and in one 3 part quest chain (3 quests) i get greens that are instantly better stat wise from the heroic gear. I mean can i have at least a little edge over the people that didn't raid for at least one lvl ?

OK i have to say this.As for the color system.Every Xpac.The color of all gear you have should automatically balance out with what gear has been added to the game.The gear you have should automatically turn to Grey to white items.As for Bing on Pickup.Well here is what it should be changed to.Cursed! I know it's an old video, but supposedly the lore-explanation for the inability to sell "Soul-bound" gear is that it's literally bound to your soul/spirit/self by magical means.
Bind on Pickup would mean that by grasping said magical item it would infuse with your character and become part of him.
Doesn't explain how you can vendor them as trash though, but it does explain why you can't trade or auction them.

The way they should solve the epic gear thing is by making alot more legendary gear like legendary armor and stuff with like a 4 month quest line to get T14 legendary armor like you have to do for any legendary weapon. BTW dragonwrath is overpowered even though nobody has it yet

I've seen a GM replying to a post about Legendary items and he said that they don't want to make too much of them because then they would lose the legendary feeling of them. But they didn't mind taking the epic feeling of the epic items.

I THINK the majority of people who complained about the hardness to get gear were role-players who are too lazy to raid / dungeon / PvP, so Blizz just made it easier to get cooler LOOKING and better stat'd gear.

Well actually that was the whole consept of wow... and more and more ppl started 2 play it! Witch means it was interesting for some1 (maybe not you) and now days when wow lost 900k subs they ask why... well cos wow was like that u are truth rageing about (i like ur show). Wow wasnt about casual players it was about FARMING the more u farm the better u will be! End of story. BUT THATS THE CONCEPT OF WOW DONT CHANGE IT ! ITS BAD!
