cedar fairand six flags are just trying 1 make money and save parks that were allowed to sink into disrepair and being taken over by gangssix flags great adventure turned into a he@@ hole and was saved for now atleast.
OMG its pretty sad when i almost cry when i see this): i miss geuga lake so much its where i went on my first rollercoaster. i had the time of my life here and its too bad they had to close. i'd gove anything for another ride on the dominater and the time warp):):
I cannot believe this closed. I have lived in florida for the past 6 years, with most of my family still in ohio. i was looking forward to going there next time i was up in the summer... I can't believe it's closed... What a bummer...
I remember a trip in '96 when it was getting a little seedy. Six of us went and were shocked by the lack of security. We were always patiently waiting and groups of unsavory people were literally jumping the lines and giving us the "Go ahead and do something!" type of looks.
@Meteor62x2 Well, it looks like something was done, no one comes because they get tired of the bullshit and they close the park! At the same time, I went through that at Kings Island, it's hard to stop line jumpers unless you are willing to kick some ass and this was a gang. I went to Kings Island and Geauga Lake for my honeymoon and proposed to my wife on the Gemini at Cedar Point.
Those are very nice clear photo's. *Props* To everyone that took them.
Now can I get the background to what exactly happened to this park? Cause from what I have heard something about 6 flags screwed it up or cedar fear. I'm not tottaly sure but am intrested in knowing wat happen
@123KIDDTM In 1995 Premier Parks bought Funtime Inc, the owners of the park at the time. They then bought Six Flags in 1999. A revamp from Geauga Lake to Six Flags Ohio came in 2000, with 4 coasters, a new kids area, and added flat rides. 2001 brought in another new coaster, and a bought expansion. Six Flags added too many rides though, and had bad customer service. In 2004, Six Flags sold it to Cedar Fair, who renamed it Geauga Lake. With them doing nothing to save the park, it closed in 2007.
i was so happy with six flags then geauga lake came and then i loved that but i loved six flags more now wild water kingdom which is ok but no rides but they kept one unamed and that park of the land is just a ghost town and nothing left they shut down the one ride left and knocked down the old bridge you that you would use to get from one side of the park to the other go to willdwater kingdom there is nothing left but shame
@kennyjohns83 Yea they would the reason they sold this was because the whole chin line went down so they got rid of the smallest theme parks!CF didnt add anything so it was CF!
I only live like an hour away from "Wild Water Kingdom"... It's sad to see it go. I bet that if Wild Water Kingdom never opened, then the park would stay.
From what I know, X-Flight was turned into FireHawk at King's Island in Cincinnati, Ohio.
@Steelerguy10 Keep Cedar Point. High prices, long lines and nothing at CP replaces John Millers Big Dipper... they just don't build them like that anymore! Been to both places many times. Big Dipper was my first coaster in 1975. Unfortunately, we are quickly arriving to three choices nationwide: Cedar Fairs, Disney or Six Flags and mere remnants of anything else is being shut down. This is a loss easily comparable to Euclid Beach.
That park was the best park EVER . I'm so sad it closed It was the best family place I mean they had a place for little kids and it was just a place for everyone to go.. I miss it so much..
Irregardless of what other posters have said Cedar Fair bought this park with the intention of closing it to protect its other Ohio parks. This park was so much fun while it was Six Flags, too bad they made such bad business decisions. I'll never return to Cedar Point with its rude Non-English speaking workers. Waldameer and Kennywood are great family oriented parks with pleasant English speaking employees and not all foreigners. They are also much cleaner than the Cedar Fair parks.
Hey there, Pittsburgh native here. Kennywood is a bit overrated. It has rude English speaking employees as opposed to foreign ones. I could drive there in just a few minutes every day, but instead I drive right past and on for some three hours to visit Cedar Point. While I don't disagree that Cedar Fair bought this park in order to eliminate competition, you must remember that Six Flags' overspending helped to kill this park as well.
I love Lakemont! I live about an hour and half away from it, but it's worth the trip every summer. Leap the Dips and Skyliner are just plain great. If only it had a little more shade!
Dominator is at Kings Dominion in just north of Richmond, Va. I love that one. I grew up going there and still take my kids there now. Several rides in this vid .look like "new" rides at Kings Dominion. The Americana ferris wheel and El Dorado look like they came from Geauga Lake.
Gone are the days of working ride photo and getting flashed by homely, middle-aged women and flicked off by everyone under 25. Proud to say I was at the park nearly every day during the final season, although I was working and I didn't get to enjoy the rides. Best park I've been to and such a fun job.
GL was on my list of parks to visit, until I heard of the closing. I just wish they made the announcement before they closed for the season so the residence could visit the park just one last time.
Cedar Fair made the right choice, it was obviously losing alot of money. Look at the park it is basically empty, its always empty in the other videos to. Cedar Point and all the other parks are packed.
Hell no they didnt! You call fixing up a food place everything it its power? They had it planned out, I knew what was happening when they moved the waterpark to Sea World Side of the lake. And they never built any new rides, people want new rides, Cedar Point was putting new rides in each year, so people went there. Cedar Fair is garbage and Dick Kinzel needs to rot in hell. They obviously had enough money to move the waterpark, why not build rides over there instead? Its a amusement park...
you are right. if they had more rides on the other side the park would even look bigger. that was just soo much room for new ventures. they did nothing with that side. they didnt need that water park.
You need money to build rides and with Six Flags in charge, building 2-3 coasters in one year is not only bad advertisement, but very financially stupid. Water parks are cheaper than Amusement parks, so Cedar Fair added onto the waterpark. Plus, with Cedar Point being about an hour away, there was no way Geauga Lake could have made it much longer. Why do you think Six Flags sold GL? Because it was shit in the first place. Six Flags needs to go to hell, not Cedar Fair.
Geauga Lake didn't have it's own money, its all shared with Cedar Fair, and they would have the money if they would have put money into fixing it up. Honestly, I would much rather spend a day at a nice park that doesn't have fucking rude people and 3 hour lines, they could have cleaned up Hurrican Hannah's and built rides there... Im glad that you think Cedar Fair is the shiz, but im sorry, that park meant too much to alot of people. Now that it's gone, Aurora will suffer.
@flightxpilot9 You siad it yourself, its a FUCKING AMUSEMENT PARK. You are seriously saying that someone need to rot in hell because of a fucking amusement park closing down. You are one messed up son of a bitch. Seriously. SHUT UP. The park sucked anyway :) The End
@CPFreak Oh so SF just added 5 coasters, brought theme to the park, added the animal park, and redid the water park. Thanks for ruining the park Six Flags! CF added a 4D ride, and repainted a ride. Thanks! Ohhh I love 4D-paid rides! So cool! So much better than a roller coaster! So much better than 5 new ones combined definetely! Sorry, but CF is to blame for doing nothing whats so ever.
@CPFreak how did six flags do anything bad to geauga lake when they added five new roller coasters? if cedar fair was really trying to fix geuga lake they would of added tons of new rides and coasters to that place. the only reson cedar fair bought it was to close it down so their presious cedar point wouldn't have any competition nearby.
Geauga lake was never a water park place and I expect it will never be one for long. I thought last year the water park across the lake was a nice touch but that alone won't bring in anymore people than came before. I hope I'm wrong.
they are gonna close the water park. Un less they extend the water park with coasters ... its doomed. By the looks of it... no more coasters. thats the only reason i went there. season passes 6yrs str8 and never even seen what the water park looked like.
The whole park is gone and all rides are listed for sale but a group called the American Coaster Enthusiasts is working to make sure the historic coaster "The Big Dipper", one of the oldest in the country, is preserved.
cedar fair sucks for selling all of the rides at geauga lake i only lived 20 minutes away from it we used to go there every weekend i will miss u geauga lake u where the best R.I.p geauga lake
ya know i wish they wouldve just sold the park instead of destroying it then sell the rides. its like they are saying no money for us then no money for no one. I wish it was back
Man if six flages would never token it over. and if cedar point had it back then it will become a 2 cedar point but they should of had more good rides and guest will come but but geauga lake R.I.P.
I knew Six Flags made a mess of the park. They don't understand the attention to detail that is needed to make a good park. I used to go to Geauga Lake every year with the family. A good 20 years in a row. If the rides can be saved and moved to other parks - that is a good thing. Will miss the park though. Makes me wonder what they may do to King's Island. They sanitized Knott's Berry Farm.
I am sad that i wasnt able to go to this park, it looks fun and i want to go, i hope they sold the rides to other parks because the rides look really fun.
Thanks for the video, I've only been there once when it was Six Flags Worlds of Adventure back in 2004. But I had fun then and I just wish I could've gone back this season, I really regret it now...:'-(
this past year was my first year going to the park and it was dead and i got stuck on double loops lift for 40 mins i will miss this park it sucks that cedar fair ran it =(

Six Flags ruined it, CF was cleaning up the mess SF made. Deal with it.
MyLifeRules76 4 years ago
Exactly. Six Flags is cleaning up their act finally though. Cedar Fair only did what they could. You can only do so much with a mess like that...

Only compliant: music does NOT go with it.
Nice otherwise
