I'd kill thousands to have a fraction of this man's talent. I knew the dude was a beast with the six-string but seeing him on the piano . . . whoa! ^_^
I remember watching G3 in London when Tony was playing for Steve Vai. He was handling the keyboards and backing guitars. When it came to introducing Tony, there was almost mellowed response from the crowd, so I got up and screamed my head off for him.
Fucking Armchair critics who sit in their parents bedroom and masturbate to midget porn with one hand while pressing post comment with the free hand that just left the feather duster that was placed on their balls! Coincidence that they never have any of their own videos of them playing!
@Explosive184 hey i agree sounds a bit sloppy here, but the lp verison from the album edge of insanity sounds like a prof panio player, but i can only speculate that this was more of just messing around then him trying.....
Not perfect - if you compare it to renditions by professional pianists here on youtube you will notice the difference. Still competent playing though.
did i say he was crap? no, you stupid fucking idiot. he just happens to be one of my favourite guitarists. i was just merely stating a fact, that that was messy. if you got your head out of his ass then you would see that.
you have to understand one thing...the great musicians are people too and they have good and bad days!
i have heard him play it perfect...so he has the ability but atm maybe he wasn't warmed up or had a crappy day....Ian Gillan lost his voice 20 years ago...will we say he is a crap singer?no because we remember what he use to sing like and its not his fault he burned out...
dude he's just improvising. its a little messy, yes, but he's not performing for an audience, he's just shitting around. and for shitting around thats fucking brilliance
He's actually trying to play a piece by Chopin, it's from one of the etudes or preludes. My friend who is a pianist plays this all the time. One of my favorites!
Exactly-he's really just playing around in this vid. But, I am certain, he does play htis peice perfectly on one of this Cd's- I just cannot recall which one. It be Edge' or Maximum.'
Chopin loves his playing, he told me. :) Obviously he's playing around in the studio. Listen to the full song on Edge of Insanity and you might change your mind. If I had videos of all the practice sessions I did I'd be arrested. Lighten up, checkout his album and come back and let us know what you think.
Well, Chopin didn´t play the guitar....so who cares if he would not approve the style of Mcalpine on piano. He is a great musician, great on guitar and great on piano or keyboard. Chopin was one of the most influential composers for piano in the 19th century..... but please, he es death!! Tony rules
Just by saying that is completely disrespectful to Chopin. Chopin can criticize MacAlpine even if he plays the guitar. Tony plays the PIANO and that's Chopin's instrument. So it does matter. And don't disrespect him by saying well he's dead because that saddens me because he died such a young age. Age 39.
@shadowknight132 oooh, sorry Mr. Chopin. I did n´t realize I hurt your feelings. I hope you forgive me and do not be offended by saying that you're dead. ........C´mon man, take it easy, Chopin was or is the Master of the Masters, but watch the video again, Tony is just getting a jam session, just for fun, so don´t take it personal, enjoy it.
You're an idiot...and have obviously not heard his recorded versions of Chopin. He's not trying hard here, not playing a real piano (who knows if those keys are even weighted well), and it's far from his body.
so, this is OP28, P16, right? too bad he was just f'ing around and bailed before the finale...it rocks and he can totally nail it. anybody have any more macalpine piano work to upload?
Edge Of Insanity (1986)-08- Chopin, Prelude 16, Opus 28
It's interesting to notice that he seems to forget some parts and then just gives up. No wonder as it's been more than 20 years since he last recorded it.
yieebo: Tony's classical pieces are the best around.
Well, this video doesn't show how good Tony is on piano. His recordings of the different Chopin Etudes that he has on his cds are quite beautiful. He's certainly not as good as Vitalij Kuprij, or any top concert pianist, but you make it seem like he's a hack on piano. Anyway, Tony is a very gifted musician whether it's guitar, piano, or keyboards. Cheers...

I actually have a couple of videos of me playing on my channel, you can watch them if you want.
I also consider myself someone who likes progressive music and a little fusion.
YET
I can't describe the way this sounds to me other than not good.
It also sounds extremely sloppy to me so I just dont understand what's worth watching in this video.
