I used to work for Gibson and PRS, and what I learned in my time there was that there's no reason at all that a guitar has to cost thousands of dollars to play well and sound good. You're paying an inflated price for the name. There are any number of guitars on the market that go for 5 or 6 hundred bucks that play great and sound fantastic.

@Flailwielder An MIM(Made in Mexico) Strat maybe, but an MIA(Made in America) Standard is certainly not a cheap guitar. Still far from the most expensive but last I checked, $1,000 is not exactly cheap.
