As a 'Guru' he founded the Laughing Man Institute , he was one of the Gurus that had so many name changes one could not keep up with him . I do admire his quest for truth . His book 'Knee of Listening' traces his way to self enlightenment. Later he surrounded himself with a lot of female devotees called Lila's who were to act like 'gopis' out of the Krishna legend. What a life , he made millions and had a lot of girls too...........
His name changes were a host of illuminations of various traditions-that may have seemed confusing, but it was a cascade of enlightening demonstrations. He baptised me into unending, oceanic heart-joy.
Adi Da Himself spoke in a certain cultural context of spirituality - there are no absolute meanings to words, yet powerful his words still are today - In a way its the age old stand off between the Tantras and the Vedas, showing that the opposites play in every manifest realm
I would imagine that traditional self-inquiry would demolish the within/without dichtomoy that many spiritual systems create. The big problem with spirituality is that all systems provide some result or the other, and each system labels their result as THE RESULT, leading to confusion for those who see merits in each system.
I remain perplexed at how much volume and tone there is to Adi Da's voice with such a small mouth and little apparent effort.
@TheQuietCenter Right, the traditional approaches are in the problem/solution modality-- which is NOT coincident with Reality. Only a Most Natural realization makes His speech Most efficient...
Well, in my own spiritual journey, I have come to understand that people often assert their being in a state, e.g., I (as ego) see the truth of needing to live in peace, so I (as ego) construct a self-serving definition or idea of rest/peace, love, and, as such, become convinced that I have come upon the divine. I have, long ago, understood this trick of the mind. So, the only thing I would add to your statement, with which I agree, is that one must be careful about how one "grades" the "test."
@CharmingMan27 That's why we study the word of the Free One. In the Company of the Enlightened One, our delusions are assaulted... tho Adi Da called us "the avatar of reluctance, who made this Teaching necessary...
Da definitely has a lot of wisdom to offer, albeit somewhat advanced. Most teachers do. The problem most teachers experience, with spreading their message, is being simple. Man is taught from a very young age to understand things through the self's filter. As such, I believe world peace/rest, for all sentient beings, will only come about if we can somehow help the lay person to completely reject self as the ANSWER. Okay, I'll stop taking up all of your time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You refer to yourself as "Me" even though you have no idea what you are, and have no connection to the billions of cells in "your" body, yet you use this "I" reference every day of your life.
@Intellijunt Good Question! How can someone say Me Me Me and not be egoic? Doesn't sound right at all, does it? But what if that voice had dissolved in the onliness of God? Who would "Me" be then? I tell you from the front row, He is Gone in God and taken all who recognize This with "Him".
Ego is excactly what He liberated me from, as well as deep, previously unknown pain and neurosis. I was changed from a neurotic to being adept in areas where before I was crippled.
Don't be scared off by the wrathful deities guarding the Temple. Adi Da's "Me"-speech perfectly offends the seeker while revealing the esoteric secret: There is Only God and He is Only This.
thanks for describing the structure of every single wise comment ever made. But I certainly agree with you on this: you can't learn how to build an airplane by listening to this discourse. On that we agree!!!
He just doesn't understand what he's hearing. Poor thing. He can have no other response. He hasn't been touched or liberated or relieved of endless suffering by the Grace of Beloved Da. I HAVE. I live a life of subliminity, practice, and unfathomable grace. This divinity is the proof I needed and it is abundant beyond my wildest imagination. Let Mokkor rage on, we'll catch him on the next round....

@CharmingMan27 Confusion/delusion is always ready to jump in, no doubt. Tests remain: are you rested in God? Are you living as love?

@CharmingMan27 First, authentic self. YES. Then inherent being, Yes. Then supreme being..... and language will always be paradoxical... blessings..

I like your characterization of "the wrathful deities guarding the Temple"--so true.

Adi Da was a brilliant, liberated being, but he had such a huge shadow that so many could not get over.

Shadow? I was there, front row and saw it all. The shadow wasn't His, but projected onto Him.

Only a fool will fail to cultivate a relationship to the Beloved and the ego-"I" is just such a fool!
