It is true that the golf course has been suggested to Portishead Skatepark Project as a possible site which is astounding after Kilkenny Fields was unsupported by so many NSC district councillors. Looking from Nore Road at the Windmill pub, to the right is Kilkenny Fields and to the left is the golf course, more exposed and further away from the town than KF. Surely the councillors will have to apply their same reasons against Kilkenny to the golf course otherwise they will look duplicitous?
Anyone doubting the problems in Portishead should read the PortisheadPeople website where comments that inform and are not libellous or defamatory are removed whereas those comments which mimic and mock others remain. I have been circulated emails detailing the problems as have others. Can someone nationally put this PortisheadPeople website in order and hold the councillors who appear to have a link with what has been happening to account?
Latest news is that the Cllr David Pasley, who did not approve of Kilkenny Fields, nor the Lake Grounds, now feels that the Golf Course would be a good place for a skatepark (although he likes to call it a wheels park even though Portishead Skatepark Project's plans allowed for general wheels use as well). He feels the golf course is in a state - yes because town councillors have allowed North Somerset Council to neglect it. Put it right by putting back the golf course not another agenda!
Rest assured that I will never give up ensuring the facts are heard on this saga and other issues in Portishead. From reading continual letters in the local media from people who prefer to listen to the misleading information from their local councillor instead of researching the facts, it will be an uphill struggle.
Totally agree with you Portisheadinboom and AnnetteHennessy1. Having seen what went on at Executive level on the skatepark shenanigans, the press to some degree is the least of the Portishead's worries. If lies can be told by councillors in front of a packed council chamber in Weston, not forgetting Cllr Terry's false allegations of several personal attacks at town council level, without any challenge by their colleagues, what hope is there for accountability. It's a disgrace. Don't give up.
I also asked Cllr Knight at the skatepark scrutiny meeting in the Town Hall, if I could now disclose the verbal information she gave me regarding a secret meeting with other councillors and a mystery developer. She said no. I was hoping she would raise with the Standards Committee, her actions and concerns as a result of that meeting. If what she alleges is true she has a duty under the Code of Conduct to report it. As do other councillors. Residents deserve facts not to bekept in the dark.
@AnnetteHennessy1 half of the problem with residents not being given the facts of what councillors do or don't get up to is down to the portishead people moderator/ evening post reporter (for want of a better word) who ensure factual details are removed from forums. I think we have seen nationally how the effects of political control of the press favours only the politicians, it's a shame it plays such a part locally as it is nothing more than information control with very suspect reasons.
The problem with misleading information being given by some councillors to the public here in Portishead, after a while residents begin believing what they are told and unless other residents who have the benefit of the facts write to the papers to correct the false information, the inaccuracies are accepted and remain unchallenged. I was the person who asked Cllr Knight how she could sit and listen to lies at scrutiny without saying anything. It is true she replied, "That's politics".
Sounds about right, there was always something dodgy about Paslie. He even made up a story about darts being chucked at the somerset hall by members of the skate project. Another bloody lie.never happenned and he even tried to say other people told him which wasnt true either, with lying blokes like that its no wonder nobody trusts them and if i see that counciillor woman letting her dogs crap on the grass again i might make a bloody video. nice town apart from these parasites.
Portisheadpeople? there's a contradiction, it should be retitled 'Selectiveportisheadpeople'. Seems odd that every time a factual statement is left on their forums they get removed by the Pickler. How can truth be defamatory?
"Thank you for registering with Portishead People. Unfortunately we have had to remove your comment on an article headlined TRUTH24 following a complaint that it was defamatory.
We would ask you please not to resubmit this content or discuss its removal on the site "
Why is it that so many councillors like Barry Walters, choose to make statements knowing they are incorrect. The comment below taken from the report on the Tropicana in the Bristol Evening Post is his. Portisheadinboom rightly points out that Portishead Skatepark Project had asked for no money and would fundraise just as Portishead Open Air Pool has done. With regard to the skatepark plan he refers to, this has been put up for public viewing and well publicised which he is fully aware of.
However, as with other videos, if anyone feels they have been wrongly portrayed and can honestly show that the subject matter of this video is misleading or untruthful in any way then please get in touch and we will remove it (shortly after the pigs land that will have flown by the window). We never made this video, it was made by those who chose to abuse our democratic process, whether that be due to ego, power, self inteerst or sheer bloody mindedness is irrelevant. We didn't start the fire!
The makers of this video have no connection to PSP and actually aren't that concerned whether a skatepark is provided at the lakegrounds or elsewhere, although we would totally agree that the best place for a facility that youngsters can share should be at the heart of the recreational area provided for just that purpose. Our concern is with the disgusting manner in which certain councilliars have constantly abused their position and influenced their colleagues with a barrage of corrosive lies.
Cllr Terry 11th Oct 2011 : Quote: This town council voted democratically by majority to support the skate park groups application for planning consent at the lake grounds, and also again by by vote sent a letter of support for that groups application for landlords consent."
So what happenend to change his mind and fabricate the lie told in January, a lie other councillors present stayed silent about. How much political pressure was used or old boys influence? Is that democracy?
I can vouch for every comment Portisheadinboom has written and agree that there is certainly seems to be a tenebrous link between a local reporter and the Lake Grounds Ward councillor. If it is for a good story that is factual, no problem. But most of the stories printed with his name belie the true situation and the reporter does not seem to want any actual evidence. Perhaps we should all start doing the same and feed incorrect stories to her - would she print them - would she hell!
FACT: Cllr Pasley's comment about residents being unaware is misleading. The scrutiny panel heard that PSP undertook 3 public consultations including public information evenings at the Folk Hall and a site consultation, NSC planning applications automatically are listed inviting residents to write in to the council and there is a statutory engagement process which many took part in, it was covered in the media extensively and of course, there were David Pasley's notices as well.
So can it be assumed he was acting personally despite the NSC compliment slips?
Yet he claims he had no personal interest in the planning matter even though this should have been disclosed at the planning meeting. Did he suddenly forget where his own house was situated? In 2003 he did disclose an interest for a planning matter at exactly the same site. What changed, same site, plans he opposed and plans that also won planning permission but were folied by refusal of landlords consent.
Then another survey followed in April 2011 attached to NSC compliment slips, after planning permission and the appeal which had been won by PSP. It gave comments about the skatepark at the Lake Grounds - certainly not all the facts and evidence. By Cllr Pasley's own admission when asked if he was conducting the survey in his capacity as Town or District Councillor replied, "It makes no difference which hat I wear. This matter has nothing specifically to do with either council".
On the 23rd August 2010, Cllr Pasley in his capacity as an "Elected member of Portishead & North Weston Town Council and North Somerset District Council" wrote a lengthy letter to the Planning Inspectorate saying, "I am the ward councillor for the lake grounds which forms part of the coast ward". He included in that letter many inaccurate comments and some completely false comments such "Gordano School agreed to donate a parcel of land for a skatepark".
Before the planning application at NSC North Area Committee, Cllr David Pasley sent out a survey to residents unfortunately only giving his contact details for residents who had any questions.
However a majority of Ward residents still supported the application for the Lake Grounds.
After each notice put through the door of residents, the majority in favour did not change.
In November 2009, notices were delivered to Coast Ward residents (inc Lake Grounds) giving the planning application details for the skatepark at the Lake Grounds. It said, "If you wish to object to this proposed development, please email or write to NSC". It goes on to say, "The skatepark would be a large and noisy intrusion".
FACT: Gordano School, knowing that the land at the school was needed for extensive building of new classrooms, had not agreed to donate any land.
FACT: Graham Silverthorne "I do need to underline that the Governors did not say yes".
FACT: The current headteacher had to speak to Cllr Pasley and also write to the media personally to correct misleading information in the press. His letter includes the quote, "Discussion about Gordano site is premature and might be viewed as a red herring".
On the 1st November 2010, Cllr David Pasley announced yet another site to the Lake Grounds on "land owned by a developer". He said, "This site would be an ideal alternative to ones being considered. It is very central to Portishead and close to new developments".
FACT: This site never transpired. This site was never and has never been disclosed to the people of Portishead. This site has never been progressed.
Was it another red herring to obstruct the skatepark group?
Cllr David Pasley "The Gordano site for a skatepark was a condition imposed by the developer".
FACT: There was no Section 106 monies involved so how could a developer impose such a condition?
In the same month, Gordano secured planning permission for a massive £2.2 million expansion. This was discussed at an emergency North Area Committee meeting because "The scheme had to be approved ahead of a meeting of council executives to rubber stamp funding".
At the same time, Cllr Pasley said "It seems ridiculous for PSP to pursue a site at the Lake Grounds that is NOT going to be granted Landlord's permission when there are alternative sites available".
FACT reiterated: No equally suitable sites were available. Gordano had not been agreed.
Before the planning appeal, Cllrs Pasley and Baker chose then as the time to announce their plans for a skatepark at Gordano which they said had the agreement of the school.
FACT: It was never agreed by the Governors or Headteachers (past or present).
In Feb 2010, each councillor on the North Area Committee received an email from more than one Portishead resident asking why they had ignored the planning evidence and voted against the skatepark.
Cllr Felicity Baker said "The local Ward member (Cllr Pasley) referred to ASB and I felt that an alternative site would be preferable". So she listened to the ward councillor but ignored the planning evidence.
FACT: Again from Mark Ponsford in Sept 2010, "I have been unable to trace any complaints that relate to use of skateparks within North Somerset. This does not necessarily mean that there has never been a complaint - just that no-one can recollect any".
FACT: NSC officer David Tate "See no valid planning reasons for objecting to a skatepark at the Lake Grounds".
FACT: Cllr David Pasley's email stating he had "fresh and valuable information" at the planning stage was also false.
Cllr David Pasley - "We have solid planning reasons for turning down this application".
FACT: This comment is not the truth. All planning policies were complied with. Cllr Pasley cannot justify this comment.
FACT: NSC Environmental Protection Manager Mark Ponsford "I appreciate the time taken yesterday to look at the proposed sites for a wheeled play facility in Portishead. My preference would be the Lake Grounds".
“Dick Whittington (supporter of saving the Tropicana) was not able to come up with a viable plan.
Truth24 equally is unwilling to put the skateboard park plan up for public viewing.
Both hope that the council tax payer will pick up the bills, particularly the running costs.
Life is just not like that.”
.At no time have PSP asked for money, they intend to be self supporting and have proven such and all plans are freely available. BEP should remove that lie.... but they won't.
The moderator of Portishead Peoiple website has decided that any factual statments that highlight the corrupt failngs of our Councilars should be removed from the site, even though they are factual and have supportive written evidence. The Bristol Evening Post, which strangely uses the same reporter, has also started to censor such factual comments and yet allowed Councilor Barry Walter (con) to print the following lie in regard to the Tropicana which NSC wants to demolish
When one of these speakers asked Cllr Reyna Knight why she did not challenge her Portishead councillor colleagues when they were making misleading statements, she was overheard to reply, "That is politics". This has been confirmed by the speaker involved.
Obvioulsy coincidence but every Councilliar involved in this abuse of positon is of Conservative origin which highlights how party loyalty awlays takes precedence over the wishes of local people.
One of the speakers, incredulous that the Ward councillor could make such a statement asked, quite rightly, for the councillor to "Share your evidence then". Evidence based information is the only information that should have been given at the scrutiny meeting. Three of the public speakers did this.
The Lake Grounds Ward Councillor was none too pleased to be reminded by two Portishead residents that the planning and appeal documentation for the skatepark at the Lake Grounds, contained comprehensive evidence that of those who engaged in the statutory process, the majority were in favour. Not a small majority but an overwhelming majority.
So what quote did he give next? This is it.
