Maybe they didn't figure it out because it was Junior Varsity. At my school, the coaches didn't scout the other team's JV. I assume they just ran the same schemes as the varsity and expected the other team to do the same. If you only do it once a game and nobody takes a look at the film, the play will stay effective for a while.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry when seeing this. My junior year in HS we lost a game on the exact same play. The reason it works is the guy they give the ball to just stands there and doesn't move. We literally had one of our guys stop and look at the guy with the ball (they actually put it between his legs) seeing the play was going the other way (with no football of course) and once it was clear, off to the races. SInce it was JV the other teams probably didn't get film.
