Even though I hate disturbing the peace, and pressuring those cars ahead with the siren, at 2:55 why not keep the siren sounding hoping that oncoming vehicles would hear and realize that they should stop?
Maybe a pedestrian would also flag vehicles to stop so that your path would clear.
Idiot driver at 4:53 blocking you from turning right? Should cited and fined.
Dont forget this is a training thing, they dont just do it for fun this is part of the training that makes them skilled to be able to do this kind of thing safely. its a very rare thing to do so dont just not pull over and as of my last comment, now im involved with the police and ambulance services creating audio and visual warning systems. theyre job is hard enough with out people being ignorant on the roads
You can learn by driving normally without endangering and inconveniencing others, disturbing the peace and disrupting traffic.
Police should cite the driver for every red traffic signal he went through, every time he exceeded the speed limit and every occasion he drove on the wrong side of the road.
Also should be charged for illegal use of siren and emergency lights.
I would sign a legal complaint and have them charged.
You can't learn it all by sitting in traffic, talking about theory, watching videos, and driving around cones. These things help but they aren't all of it.
As for the sirens and lights the law is different here so don't make comments on things you know nothing about.
I would never be a firefighter in the USA if it meant I had to be driven to an incident by someone who had never done it before. The idea is preposterous.
Actually, I cannot comprehend your government allowing such a ridiculous exception.
I doubt your veracity.
Even my English friends agree and had no idea anyone was stupid enough to do that.
Yes, you CAN learn by watching videos, observing responses from inside the truck (as firefighters did for years) and JUST THINKING ABOUT IT while driving normally.
No justification needlessly breaking laws, taking right of way and creating risks just for "practice."
Firstly he hasn't broken any laws and secondly do you suggest that he doesn't "practice"? As for lessons he will have spent months driving at normal road speed as well as having passed a written and practical exam of the highest standard.
You may doubt my veracity and insult my laws all you wish but it won't change the facts.
Why cause that truck at :20 to drive possibly on nails and debris getting out of the way of a fire truck on a fake run?
My English friend says the public has no idea about these fake runs.
As an emergency vehicle driver instructor, I know there is no need to take right-of-way away from those who deserve it, expose the public to hazardess NEEDLESS speeding, disrupt traffic flow, make annoying noise, etc.
What about the cars damaged when pulling out of the way of a fire truck?
yes ok fair point you can learn watching real responces. but do you know the reason this video was made? If no then ill tell you, ok when you do a car driving test does your instructor not go over the test after you have taken the test? well look at this video in the same way, its used to show the student key points in their driving. it also aids the instructor in tutoring. the student proberbly was prowed of something he achieved!
Taking driving lessons/tests, you are not breaking laws, taking right of way from others, making them maneuver out of your way, exposing drivers and pedestrians to a speeding vehicle, and disturbing the peace.
I favor recording these REAL responses and also posting them here.
yes taking driving lessons/tests is not illegal and yes speeding, taking right of weay everywhere and causing other vehicles to change direction may well not seem fair or curtious for a practice run. but it is not illegal to do this, if they didn't do these kind of practice runs our fire appliance drivers would not have such skill that they need to have. there is a reason the U.K. Government have made this type of thing LEGAL!
Do you believe the UK would expose its citizens to such moronic practices?
Approaching red signals, imagine you are driving emergent.
Do you use turn signal and move into opposing lane and pass vehicles stopped behind the signal, expecting deaf drivers and pedestrians and unsuspecting cross-traffic?
Do you influence vehicles ahead to pull forward into the intersection?
If vehicles pull over, will you be able to squeeze through?
You just effectively practiced, safely and courteously.
Sigh, please look up the road traffic regulations act 1984 section 87.
Yes, they will be speeding, that is what happens in an emergency. If the driver can't handle it in a TRAINING run under full supervision how do you expect them to handle it in an emergency?
You are right about one thing however, English people are not stupid. That is why we train like this.
Now im sure im not the only person who can tell you here, emergency vehicles and personel have different standards and methods of doing things. emergency vehicles must be up to a certain government standard for safety and so must all emergency vehicle drivers. everything you are suggesting is taken into thought by both the government standards setters and the drivers of E/ Vehicles. for example when we kit out our police bikes the tyres must be completly puncture proof and the sirens 115db +
I have given you the oportunity to look up the relevant legislation. i.e. section 87 of the road traffic regulation act 1984. If you are to lazy to do this then you will have to carry on in ignorance.
Lastly, regardless of your opinion or the job you do this is how it happens over here so either move on and get over it or don't. I care not either way.
Calling TRAINING runs FAKE runs implies a degree of malpractice which this is not. Maybe in your country but not here. Get over it.
Many of our streets wouldn't require your tower/platforms, however they would fit down the streets that do. In my brigade we call them HPs (Hydraulic platforms)
The English like their fire appliances like their firefighters-efficient and fit for purpose.
Well, you as seem passionate and commited to your system as I am to mine and I respect that so I think we will have to agree to disagree! I stand by my comment that if I got in the back of a pump and had a driver who had never done a blue light run on the street I would be feeling very nervous! I'm sure your drivers are of an equal skill to ours though.
My brigade has just brought in more regular health checks because I think we were getting the same problem as you!
They oppose this faulty practice for all the reasons I revealed.
We will have a new driver drive the engine back to the station. Also, go out on drives -but no lights and siren.
Those are only for emergencies.
Yes, it is so easy to put on weight with modern conveniences.
I use stairs instead of elevators or escalators and hand shovel snow intead of using blower. I park distant and walk to stores and wife and I ride our tandem bicycle to stores.
Would you board a plane with a pilot who had never flown before? Or go to sea with a captain who had never sailed? I know I wouldn't!
Also, not only would I be nevous about being in the back with a virgin driver I would also be nervous about being the virgin driver. I would certainly be taking it easy and that is not what you want when lives are at risk.
I had to drive at normal road speed for six loooong months and do many cone exercises, and watch DVDs, before I got my chance to do the EFAD!
As you are aware it takes months to train as an emergency driver. It takes about a year to a year and a half to train a brigade driver, from a standard car licence to a LGV emergency licence including special equipment eg foam carriers, and HPs.
The Police and Ambulance service also do the same techniques. As they need to learn first hand and through experience, not through a video. As video responses are servely limited and not all public react the same as driving through traffic normally.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You learn JUST by observing REAL emergency runs, and, while driving normally, IMAGINING, figuring out, and envisioning what to do as you encounter all kinds of traffic situations.
No need to take right of way from others, force others to pull over and stop, impose risks of speeding, disruptraffic, annoy with illegal siren, expose others to mishaps from FAKE runs.
This absurd, rude tradition should be illegal and cease.
Just out of curiosity how do you conduct standard car lessons and tests?
We use public roads for first lessons as well as well as tests as this prepares the driver for years of other motorists doing strange things that you cannot learn through a Q and A time. The only training for UK motorists that takes part in a controled area eg playgrounds, is a CBT which you have to complete to take your bike test. This is why i think British drivers are some of the best the world has to offer!
Learning to drive a car, you are not imposing upon others, not forcing them to stop for green signals, pull over, etc. Except when I was 15 learning to drive - then everyone cleared off the roadways!
In the fire truck coming to red signals, congested traffic, etc., we discuss what to do.
When I bought a Kawasaki 650, I practiced on a quiet street and in a parking lot. (How did I ride it home from where I purchased it?)
British are the most polite drivers. Chinese are the most skilled.
Fake a thing that is not genuine, and this is a real training progression program for drivers to make them better drivers. It takes over a period of time.......and it thats improve your driving under those circumstances.
Well if you were an instructor, i have to say that things change, my friend.. and laws and regulations too. There is not a perfect system, but this one works really well... if no get the info about accidents...... We dont get the license and do the course... Anyway Im not going to waste more time after reading some of your comment... No Comment.
The entire point of this training is to make it realistic for everybody. It does us public good to practise getting the hell out the way. As for inconvenience, the average person must be put out for what ? 10 seconds ? Oh isn't that terrible !
As for not pulling over, I fail to believe that anyone British would say that.
However, it is not law that you have to pull over but you're a bloody fool if you don't.
Actually I'm wrong, they've changed it. I should check more often !
All vehicles on both sides of the road must slow down or even stop to leave a clear path, but do not endanger other road users. Don't stop in the middle of a junction. (If you're blocking the path of the emergency vehicle, you may have to turn the corner to get out of the way.)
if i had one, i would give you a badge with "armchair quarterback 1" on it. you seem to be the best and doing everything right on every run, and you can rip apart someones video cause you can.
As a EV driver instructor, I condemn the absurd practice of exposing citizens to needless risk and annoyance and taking of their right of way - for NOTHING.
Intelligent English citizens, when informed of this, disapprove of such ridiculous fake runs.
It is so absurd they never imagined it even occurred.
If I knew, I certainly would not pull over for a fake run.
he has a problem with how everyone runs hot, or a bluelight run in your case. he's basically an armchair quarterback critiquing everyones video's cause he's so perfect, he can do everything perfect on every run. he also doesnt understand that some places in the US require you to have a siren on with the lights no matter what time of day. but of course his opinion is always right!
i already posted the law 3 times, its not my fault if you dont click the links. the department hasnt recieved a complaint over "needless noise pollution" that i have EVER heard of. you have stated before dont use it when you even see people, and you also state that sitting at a red light with the siren and lights on will make people think your stopped there for something. thats the whole reason for a siren, so they knwo yoru still moving.
I use the siren as needed, such as approaching red signals - unless I see no one approach the intersection.
Because police stupidly use ALL their lights when stopped, instead of lights pointing only rearward toward approaching traffic, when EVs stop, drivers think they are parked.
By they time drivers detect the siren, it is often too late to stop.
So we always try to maintain forward motion so drivers see, even if not hear.
Unless we hear about the complaint, there isnt one. We use the siren as stated in our SOP's and state law (and yes, ive given you the link numerous times). We are not police, nor do we have blue lights like the police, and we have lights that cut out while parked. We dont maintain a forward motion into an intersection because of those drivers who realize its too late to stop, because then they plow into you. By sounding the siren further back, it gives them a chance to hear it.
Always happy to answer new posts, of which YouTube notifies..
Now watching this ridiculous fake run, where, without any emergency, the fire brigade imposes on numerous drivers and citizens forcing people to stop and yield, making noise pollution, exposing everyone to needless risk.
It was in West Mercia constabulary. Admittedly, this was about 10 years ago - the old style Vauxhall Astra hatchbacks.
More recently though, I often drove a panda car when transferred to Warwickshire. It was a Peugeot. Brand new, with only blue lights and no siren. It wasn't used for pursuit, but could still be used as a response vehicle.
I live abroad now, so I'm not sure ifthe regulations have changed.
How can it be a "response" vehicle with no audible warning device?
Admittedly, I sound the siren as sparingly as possible. I never count on it being heard, anyway, what with better sound-proofed vehicles with excellent surround-sound stereos and air conditioning.
If no one is in my lane I do not sound it. Only when approaching red signals or traffic which needs to move out of the way do I blare it and safely assume not everyone hears it.
I have no idea. We had a whole fleet of these peugeots and had to use the horn when people hadn't seen us and be really cautious around controlled junctions. Rural force, though.
RE: your earlier post. Many police cars only have 360's, and some only have front and rear facing strobes which cannot be individually turned on. Some don't even have reds facing rear, so it may seem that all the lights are on. Unlike tenders, police cars vary greatly across forces and so do their operating procedures.
Your comments on "English practice run wouldnt happen in Amercian, make me laugh, We have to put up with , USA Fastest chases, USA Fastest police chases with 20 police cars chasing etc etc, I seem a few, from what ive seen, The police in the states when chases motor vehicles give little thought to other road users when trying to stop these vehicles, often they ram cars which in turn hit other vehicles with members of public going about the daily buisness causing injurys to them.
bike sirens as i said must be 115+ so they can go louder, the sirens we equip bikes with are 160db and the tyres are very light weight, just made of stronger stuff. and as for fuel? I should mention its pedal powered. all the same the poiint is on every emergency vehicle we have to meet standards to avoid things like not enough braking power and blowouts. this goes for every single type of E/Vehicle used. and hey if your an instructor you would be agreeing with me ???
Oh, I thought you were describing motorcycle tires. My 1st concern when riding my Kawasaki at 75 mph is a blowout. So I always check my tires, especially front. Next is colliding with deer and being struck by lightning.
that roads so long, well on a mountain bike some idiot slaped my arse while i was cycling there in the dark, i got him back by turning on my blue strobe lights he thought i was a police officer on the bike and the car he was in speed off

Exposing the public to FAKE emergency runs?
How unacceptable and rude.
It is not worth the risks.
Only emergencies justify taking the right of way from drivers and pedestrians, speeding, disobeying traffic signals, noise pollution, etc.
You can learn such driving by observing ACTUAL emergency runs.
You practice following the laws just like all other vehicles.
This malpractice must cease.
Only dolts would be so inappropriate and unprofessional.

That he would risk others' lives is inexcuseable.
No, no person or agency would be that stupid to conduct fake responses.

How would anyone know it is a FAKE run?
Fake runs is so ridiculous a concepthat intelligent citizens would never suspect them being done..
What part of exposing drivers and pedestrians to hazards of speeding is beyond your comprehension?
What part of unfairly taking right of way and causing traffic flow disruption do you not understand?
You can "practice" all without actually doing illegal things.
If not for being hazardous, unjust, rude and annoying, this is laughably unprofessional.

Nope, Adamblew, you are wrong -just as you are about FAKE runs.
I am an EVOC instructor who has been in the fire service for years.
Mishaps happen.
Yes, most often the fault of the citizen.
So why expose them to additional opportunities to make accidents?
How about that truck getting a flat?
Do you think it justified for a JOY RIDE.?
Emergency vehicle driving practice can be accomplished without speeding, taking others' right of way, causing traffic disruption, noise pollution.

Drivers need not practice getting out of the way. They should know traffic laws.
Yes, BOTH directions should move left to open up passage for the EV down the center.
Also, even with a raised median, one must stop before an intersection in case the EV will be turning right in front of them.
We practice emergent driving in everyday normal driving.
Approaching intersections, you can figure out what to do. Coming upon conjested traffic, you can figure out what to do - WITHOUT DOING IT.

We would be the first to get out of the way and help emergency vehicles get to their emergencies.
(I barely made it to an obstructed airway before the patient expired. Drivers really helped.)
But if I knew it was a fake run, I wouldn't move out of the way.
SUCH PRACTICE RUNS ARE UNNEEDED.
You can learn all you need to know driving normally.
Drivers pull over and get flat tires, or bump other vehcles or objects. Cars rear-end others.
You can lose an entire traffic signal cycle.
robertgift 2 years ago
but if they did not pull over they could face prosecution....also...you could argue that EFAD training runs do make it as realistic as possible!
joelwhitaker 2 years ago
You are correct.
These fake runs are closer to REAL emergency runs than practicing them without lights and siren.
But they are still a rude, noise polluting needless ridiculous risk imposed on citizens.
If I were cited for not pulling over or yielding, I would win my case in court.
I would then charge the driver with reckless driving: speeding, disobeyance of traffic control devices, illegal lane useage, etc.
robertgift 2 years ago
if i had one, i would give you a badge with "armchair quarterback 1" on it. you seem to be the best and doing everything right on every run, and you can rip apart someones video cause you can.
CTFD13 2 years ago
As a EV driver instructor, I condemn the absurd practice of exposing citizens to needless risk and annoyance and taking of their right of way - for NOTHING.
Intelligent English citizens, when informed of this, disapprove of such ridiculous fake runs.
It is so absurd they never imagined it even occurred.
If I knew, I certainly would not pull over for a fake run.
There is no need to do these fake runs.
robertgift 2 years ago
he has a problem with how everyone runs hot, or a bluelight run in your case. he's basically an armchair quarterback critiquing everyones video's cause he's so perfect, he can do everything perfect on every run. he also doesnt understand that some places in the US require you to have a siren on with the lights no matter what time of day. but of course his opinion is always right!
CTFD13 2 years ago
Please display the legal requirement that siren MUST be sounding.
For decades, siren was sounded "as needed".
Our intelligent SOPs allow silence in consideration of others.
Do you blare the siren at 2:30 a.m. through residential neighborhoods?
Such a ridiculous law would require it.
Siren is merely a tool to be used if needed.
Or do you "yell" at people who are not there?
robertgift 2 years ago
i already posted the law 3 times, its not my fault if you dont click the links. the department hasnt recieved a complaint over "needless noise pollution" that i have EVER heard of. you have stated before dont use it when you even see people, and you also state that sitting at a red light with the siren and lights on will make people think your stopped there for something. thats the whole reason for a siren, so they knwo yoru still moving.
CTFD13 2 years ago
Many people complain.
But you may not learn of them.
So we always try to maintain forward motion so drivers see, even if not hear.
robertgift 2 years ago
Unless we hear about the complaint, there isnt one. We use the siren as stated in our SOP's and state law (and yes, ive given you the link numerous times). We are not police, nor do we have blue lights like the police, and we have lights that cut out while parked. We dont maintain a forward motion into an intersection because of those drivers who realize its too late to stop, because then they plow into you. By sounding the siren further back, it gives them a chance to hear it.
CTFD13 2 years ago 3
You, in the field, aren't likely to hear complaints. They are called in or e-mailed to the department.
I got a complaint about a EV's continuous siren at 2 a.m. No traffic.
I explained it wasn't us. We are thoughtful, quiet and considerate.
Police create the problem for everyonelse.
Fire truck could not cross busy four-lane highway.
Drivers thought it parked with lights flashing. When they finally heard the siren, too late.
Firefighter had to get out and flag traffic.
robertgift 2 years ago
Good point!
But the siren is also less loud.
Maintaining forward motion, without progressing into moving traffic, shows drivers that you ARE moving and not parked.
A problem with electronic sirens is that most sound in projected forward.
Those approaching from the left, the most acute angle, may not hear the siren.
(We should have a siren speaker facing 70 degrees left, turned on when approaching intersections.)
360s should be used only when moving.
Flashing lights when parked.

Are you still here Robertgit? Seven months later? Get a life you sad little troll man.

Still here.
Always happy to answer new posts, of which YouTube notifies..
Now watching this ridiculous fake run, where, without any emergency, the fire brigade imposes on numerous drivers and citizens forcing people to stop and yield, making noise pollution, exposing everyone to needless risk.
Finally stopping the clown business at 2:55.
robertgift 2 years ago
I've driven some police cars that only have blue lights and absoloutely no sirens at all. There is no legal requirement.
Photobyke 2 years ago
Where?
Interesting.
To be classified an emergency vehicle, a vehicle MUST have lights visible at 500 feet in normal daylight and siren or other audible warning device.
Some fear riding along on a driver's first lights and siren run.
What's the difference if this FAKE run is a real response or not?
Are the hazards not the same?
Only this is uneeded and a real run has a purpose.
Knowledgeable English citizens agree these fake runs should be illegal.
robertgift 2 years ago
It was in West Mercia constabulary. Admittedly, this was about 10 years ago - the old style Vauxhall Astra hatchbacks.
More recently though, I often drove a panda car when transferred to Warwickshire. It was a Peugeot. Brand new, with only blue lights and no siren. It wasn't used for pursuit, but could still be used as a response vehicle.
I live abroad now, so I'm not sure ifthe regulations have changed.
Photobyke 2 years ago
Doubtful that regulations have changed.
Only when approaching red signals or traffic which needs to move out of the way do I blare it and safely assume not everyone hears it.
robertgift 2 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Many police chases should be done differently.
The issue here is that you can learn emergency driving by observing real emergency runs, and by imagining what to do during NORMAL driving.
At every intersection you can discover/decide/discuss where you would have gone had it been an emergency response.
In congested traffic you can think where to go and what surprises to expect.
No need to impose FAKE emergency runs on the public.
How absurd, rude and needlessly risky.

Bike sirens are not 115 dB.
Did not know their tires were puncture proof. I should investigate for my motorcycle. Probably too expensive and not fuel efficient for me.
We call them "donor-cycles".
robertgift 3 years ago
bike sirens as i said must be 115+ so they can go louder, the sirens we equip bikes with are 160db and the tyres are very light weight, just made of stronger stuff. and as for fuel? I should mention its pedal powered. all the same the poiint is on every emergency vehicle we have to meet standards to avoid things like not enough braking power and blowouts. this goes for every single type of E/Vehicle used. and hey if your an instructor you would be agreeing with me ???
EmergencyWarehouse 3 years ago
Oh, I thought you were describing motorcycle tires. My 1st concern when riding my Kawasaki at 75 mph is a blowout. So I always check my tires, especially front. Next is colliding with deer and being struck by lightning.
The siren dB is exaggerated.
They must be measuring right at speaker cone tip.
I agree when it applies.
