I was in the audience when they recorded this, at the Ghent Film Festival in 2000. I still get goosebumps thinking about that night. Check out 'Thunderbird' from the same concert, you'll be blown away:
@majoortje Mayans are people from Central America, so I know a lot of Mayans...what the fuck is that logic? How does attempting to exterminate a rebel gladiator make all Romans faggots? Do gay people go on murdering people in your neighborhood? Spartacus was not their best general, good but far from the best. You don't know a single Roman. In fact, evidently by saying that you don't know anything about the Romans.
Didn't really like the film, although Han Zimmers Now we are free is tear jerkinly amazing, he know's how to put the right piece of music to a certain film
Ein Lied zum Nachdenken und das ist ein Leid von Lieder, die uns um alles nachdenken lassen und egal für welche Richtung auch sein mag also für jeden Mensch der nachdenken kann und lässt
Yeh the Romans did some bad things, but I think most nations committed atrocities at that time. I would prefer to be a Roman citizen if I were alive back then, by far.
@Rhymer3 The majority of the Roman people loved see other people put to death unjustly and in the most inhumane ways such as crucifixion. I say the majority of the Roman people were evil because look at how many of them liked to attend the collosiums to see lions eat humans or gladiators kill each other or see mass crucifixions. They gained their riches by blundering other people they massacred. What a despicable genocidal society!
@shahriar5252 yah some did, but did all?no no not all of them did... and maybe we should handle things a little more harshly now a days, there probably would be less 7 year olds in dumpsters...and yah im sure every single person that lived under roman rule was increadibly rich because every man woman and child that was under roman rule conquered other belongings, if that were the case we would be roman right now, open your eyes get off youre high horse and stop being so increadibly pathetic
@Rhymer3 What does dumping infants in trash by murdering mothers have to do with genocidal people of Rome that were going around the earth and butchering other people's infant for the sole reason of plundering the wealth of another society or subjugating entire peoples. Rome's usual method to mass-murder surrendered victims was more brutal than that of Nazi Germany. The genocidal Romans employed crucifixion for slow painful death whereas the genocidal Nazis used gas for a quick death.
The Roman empire and its pagan people were the embodiment of evil. Thank God that they, their culture, and even their language are now in the dust bin of history. I feel sad for the many that were murdered by the most cruel methods of this truly evil empire.
@deeafallenangel Good, then we may have had a better world in which all those people whom the monstrous Romans massacred would have had a chance to make contributions to their local societies. Who knows, maybe the industrial revolution and all the freedom ideas that brought the U.S. into existence would have happened many centuries ago. Imagine how much more advanced our science would have been. Thank God that the evil pagan Roman empire collapsed.
You shouldn't call people names, that's not cool. Especially if you are wrong yourself. It's not Gaelic. Like the top comment says, it's an idiosyncratic language (a language she made up herself). I have to admit that i thought it was Gaelic too, but it isn't.
I love this song because although it's in a made up language, but when you hear it (especially at the end of the film) you know exactly what it's about.
I don't give a crap if the language is in Hebrew, made up words, or a mixture of both. This song is so f**king beautiful and awesome, I've never heard any other like it. Hans Zimmer is a genius at composing this
It may sound Idiosyncratic and mistaken as Hebrewic and Gaelic, but the lyrics speaks with a tone of a Melismatic. The singing style is now commonly practice everywhere, from Middle Eastern to Asian folk musical.
This Film is brilliant.Maximus is acctually Italian but has spent so many years away from italy his accent has changed, most roman soldiers weren't acctually from italy it's too small a country to house so many soldiers. This was the time romans were dominant so if any bullsh***ers try and say somone like america dominated they clearly dont know history,Im from scotland and even how sh** the italians are now you've still got to respect their ancestors for pulling such a feat
@ciarangrahan12 wrong its not about italy its about the empire of rome which may have started in the area which is now known as italy but the empire streached far and wide from western europe into asia minor and parts of africa and maximus is actually from the hispanic part of the roman empire so he isnt even "italian"
@ciarangrahan12 I'm sure that most of the actors that played in the movie wasn't Italian also, and lets not forget the crew and the scenes.
none the less Italy is not Ancient Rome, the voice is perfect for this song, and if you didn't know the singer was singing in Hebrew then you wouldn't make such unpleasant comment.
Just a fun factor - It is known that Exiled Jewish Slaves helped build the Colosseum =]
The film is not about Italy, its about Russell Crowe Kick Gladiators Ass! =]
A very few are Hebrew with the rest of the vocals...
I believe that what she is saying is that the remaining song is made up of sounds and not conventional language. These "sounds" are sung in a melismatic style.
@shosteryus actually, it's a made-up language: "Gerrard sings many of her songs, such as Now We Are Free (...), in an idioglossia (an idiosyncratic language) that she has developed since the age of twelve."
