I suppose the (non-merit based, therefore ingenuous) empowerment created by the opportunity to direct the course of one's own education with behaviors as focus carries the day as far as self esteem goes. PYP creates style, not substance.

PYP's 'learner profile' is behavioral in nature, toward international 'mindedness', which is holistic, not cognitive, assuming children do not innately think or learn independently - yet with PYP, children are their own educational authorities, directing the course of their own education.
