Bonjour Boppper, il faut que vous sachiez que de vous écouter ma redonné l'envie de travailler mon ténor. Quel plaisir d'entendre ce son et ces phrasés. Merci pour ce cadeau.
@agigcbo Yes it's true! And not many people know that jazz was invented in Scotland, in the illicit drinking bothies frequented by hill farmers in Wester Ross and Sutherland in the 1830s. The took it to the deep south of America when they emigrated during the highland clearances.
@VojtechSedlakMusic Hi, you have an unusual timbre on sax, quite unusual and memorable. That's what's great about the sax, with practice the player can change the sound to suit himself, probably more than any other instrument.

@patrickmichael42 I couldn't help but comment on this, its improvisation i dont know if you knew this but that means you play as you go and you don't have sheet music the soul is n the style and rythem. if it's boring to you go listen to some Bob marley or some other artist that clearly would intrest you (refrence to weed comment) speaking of doesnt magicly make youre music better only, impares you to making more.

Fantastic tone just the right amount of growl in there to add an edge and the swooping in very very music accented just all around great! Oh and those 19 or so people who don't like it can't possibly do a better job.
@r3ap3rG88 One: Rico Plasticover 2 and a half. Two: Otto Link Super Tone Master 8. Music choice: Getz, Sims, Hawkins, Webster, Gordon, etc. I don't mind a few people not liking too much, as long as most of them do. Tell me, why have I got more than quarter of a million hits on this track? Unbelievable!

Nice! Like your tone and articulation. I play a 1947 Tenor SBA and a 1970 Mark IV Soprano. Both great horns and in excellent cond. I recently sold my vintage Otto link to a kat in the U.K. for $700. He got a deal. It was a beaut but I didn't care for it myself. I prefer my custom mpc. I love playing with those jazz tracks too. I enjoyed this vid. Keep'em coming. Play til ya sweat. Saxman
Re: Elevator music, .....you should listen to more jazz my friend so you can differentiate between music with soul and music without feeling...this man is an eloquent player with lots of soul and plays from the heart...it is too bad your ears hear something else!

@Sestrierre I think that too! Really relaxing and soothing :) A comical video to do would be Ian playing in an elevator whenever people went to get in, kind of like Remi Gaillard's video (the french 'prankster'). :)

@Sestrierre Yes, you are in the certain thing. But someone has to do this music not? It follows be a very nice music though it should seem of elevator XD
@itendstonight96 e io ke l'ho abbandonato ma devo riuscire a suonarlo.. so tecniche mi manca un po d'impegno... grande strumento x chi lo sa suonare....
@scarab2291 listen scabyarab, I do know how to spell swear words but seeing as I am a saxophone player and a gentleman I do not need to stoop to your level and use them..
It is very debateable that you could even play a major scale up and down ...as for your claims to play the sax....lets hear your efforts to play over a simple II V I....Thought not....now give up the sax and go learn guitar...its more suited to someone who is so lacking a few brain cells !!!!!
@galaxyblinds WELL SINCE UR SUCH A GENTLEMEN I SURE U MAY PLAY THE SAX BUT STILL IM FUCKING FORCED TO PLAY IT I LIKE IT BUT IM IN BAND CLASS OH AND BY THE WAY I MAY LACK BRAIN CELLS BUT AT LEAST I HAVE A FAMILY WHO ACTUALLY LOVE ME AND DIDN'T TRY TO PUT ME UP FOR ADOPTION SO LIKE I SAID BEFORE FFFFFFUUUUCCCCKKKK OOOOFFFF!!!!!
@SaxoAcapella Hi Saxo, I can't tell you what would be the best for you, as everyone's embochure is different. You have to try out a few different mouthpieces/reeds yourself and see what suits your chops and your horn.
love the sound. i enjoy my 1937 conn naked lady immensely and wouldn't trade it for anything. i am in high school and have my own jazz band, and i'm trying to stray away from I-IV-V's and ran across this example of a ii-V-I. What scales do you use for improv?
@yurgasturgusdad HI Yurga, yes, the old Conns are great. I have a 1918 Conn Pan American which is a gutsy horn. I don't use scales when I improvise, at least not consciously. I improvise totally by ear.
@BOPPPPER oh really? the high school i attend has a pan american in ok condition, it just looks worn. it's what i play at school. what listening would you personally recommend? I myself borrow ideas from Coltrane, Ben Webster, Charlie Parker, and even non saxophonists such as Miles Davis and Charles Mingus to name a few.
@yurgasturgusdad Hi Yurga, I listen to Dexter Gordon, Zoot Sims, Illinois Jacquet, Joshua Redman (he's still alive), Stan Getz, James Moody (also alive) and others... there are so many great sax players. Branford Marsalis on soprano, and he now plays tenor.
What non- sax players out there need to know is that every saxophone has a different tone. I don't like on - sounds as if the reed - it should be a more mellow, breathy tone for such an arrangement.
This guy would be a lot more interesting if he knew how to navigate through the iii Vi changes. He needs to spend time exploring scales. Without mastery of the iii Vi changes and more exploration of the ii V passages the solo is just ho hum. Like I was told once when I sat in with some high quality musicians and got creamed: "These guys really like you personally but go home and do a lot of practicing before you do this again". Who cares about what kind of sax you're playing. Keep going.
@grumpy3625 I hear you, Grumpy! One of the things that I see so much of in connection with music on the Tube is the near obsession with gear. When I was younger, we used to kid about guys we called "Equipment Nazis." Whenever we'd talk music, and how to play more and better, there was invariably a guy that grew bored in a hurry and wanted to rattle off the specs of whatever it was he couldn't wait to buy next.
So much about the tools, not what they were building. Take it easy...
@pyannaguy Thanks pyannaguy. I've heard that Bird played his share of stinker horns and no matter how good your horn is, it's not going to sound good if you can't play it. I want you to know though that I followed up with BOPPPPER to apologize for my boorish arrogance in my original post. We are all in the woodshed, as a good friend and excellent musician said to me, and I should be ashamed of myself for not passing on that humble phrase. Get back to me, I need the networking.
@grumpy3625 Hey, grumpy - you weren't too harsh - you told it like it is, but I know what you mean - it's easy to sound a little strident in this typed medium.
I just listened to a Johnny Griffin clip, here. Wow! Funny, though, I can still hear Clifford Scott's old classic "Honky Tonk" and appreciate some straightforward, fairly simple Blues and love the feeling and the tone. I like lots of styles, different instruments, etc.
I don't want to be a music snob, either. Take it easy....
@pyannaguy Hey, I got some things in the frier I want to put on the tube. Interested?
Oh yeah, Johnny Griffin, so overlooked, don't you think? That guy's solos just floor me. And he was a master of 3 6 2 5 progressions. To be continued.
@pyannaguy Hi pyanna and grumpy. From my perspective, I say you can fly around the chords and hit every nuance and still sound 'ho-hum' If you don't have a good melodic and poetic sensibility. Use a computer. If you have both expertise and feeling, you are fortunate indeed. I agree that I need a lot more chordal practice. Equipment: I started on a very, very bad horn and have gradually worked myself up to this superb SBA over 35 years, and really appreciate what good equipment is worth.
@BOPPPPER Hi Bopper, honestly, I'm not backstroking, but truth is: I was mainly agreeing with Grumpy's comment in terms of somebody's (lots of peoples') emphasis on horns (and gear) in general. I listen to lots of music on the Tube and guitar guys, especially, go nuts with equipment and specs talk.
I thought your playing was smooth and musical (nice tone). Like Grumpy, I apologize if I sounded critical - we're all in the woodshed, as he said. Take it easy, and keep on rollin' ...
Can you send me the backing track please ? Im a tenorsax player to :)

Fake some of the fingerings are fake because I have been playing for 5 yers and I know every fingering and tricks to the sax
ballerness99899 1 month ago
@ballerness99899 apparently not, because I saw not a single false fingering. At which part do you claim to have seen this? by the way *YEARS* 0/10
diabo147 1 month ago
@ballerness99899 I have a few questions:
1. Why would anybody take the time to fake this?
2. Did you pause at every fingering(near impossible)?
3. Was your comment serious or are you just one of those people?
Just enjoy the music.......gosh

1:u dont know how to spell FUCK
2:I PLAY TE TENOR SAX PHONE FUCK OFF >:(
scarab2291 1 year ago

You played great.
hey, how could I achieve such rich and sweet sound? what mouthpiece and reed setup should I do?
SaxoAcapella 1 year ago
@SaxoAcapella Hi Saxo, I can't tell you what would be the best for you, as everyone's embochure is different. You have to try out a few different mouthpieces/reeds yourself and see what suits your chops and your horn.
BOPPPPER 1 year ago
@SaxoAcapella do long tones. get a tuner, and a metronome, and tune every note from D out till F# and Bb.
Mouthpiece/reed combination makes a minor difference just get a less expensive jazz mpc, like the otto link hard rubber, or beechler diamond inlay

love the sound. i enjoy my 1937 conn naked lady immensely and wouldn't trade it for anything. i am in high school and have my own jazz band, and i'm trying to stray away from I-IV-V's and ran across this example of a ii-V-I. What scales do you use for improv?
yurgasturgusdad 1 year ago
@yurgasturgusdad HI Yurga, yes, the old Conns are great. I have a 1918 Conn Pan American which is a gutsy horn. I don't use scales when I improvise, at least not consciously. I improvise totally by ear.
BOPPPPER 1 year ago
@BOPPPPER oh really? the high school i attend has a pan american in ok condition, it just looks worn. it's what i play at school. what listening would you personally recommend? I myself borrow ideas from Coltrane, Ben Webster, Charlie Parker, and even non saxophonists such as Miles Davis and Charles Mingus to name a few.
yurgasturgusdad 1 year ago

Keep going.
grumpy3625 1 year ago
@grumpy3625 I hear you, Grumpy! One of the things that I see so much of in connection with music on the Tube is the near obsession with gear. When I was younger, we used to kid about guys we called "Equipment Nazis." Whenever we'd talk music, and how to play more and better, there was invariably a guy that grew bored in a hurry and wanted to rattle off the specs of whatever it was he couldn't wait to buy next.
So much about the tools, not what they were building. Take it easy...
pyannaguy 1 year ago
@pyannaguy Thanks pyannaguy. I've heard that Bird played his share of stinker horns and no matter how good your horn is, it's not going to sound good if you can't play it. I want you to know though that I followed up with BOPPPPER to apologize for my boorish arrogance in my original post. We are all in the woodshed, as a good friend and excellent musician said to me, and I should be ashamed of myself for not passing on that humble phrase. Get back to me, I need the networking.
grumpy3625 1 year ago
@grumpy3625 Hey, grumpy - you weren't too harsh - you told it like it is, but I know what you mean - it's easy to sound a little strident in this typed medium.
I just listened to a Johnny Griffin clip, here. Wow! Funny, though, I can still hear Clifford Scott's old classic "Honky Tonk" and appreciate some straightforward, fairly simple Blues and love the feeling and the tone. I like lots of styles, different instruments, etc.
I don't want to be a music snob, either. Take it easy....
pyannaguy 1 year ago
@pyannaguy Hey, I got some things in the frier I want to put on the tube. Interested?
Oh yeah, Johnny Griffin, so overlooked, don't you think? That guy's solos just floor me. And he was a master of 3 6 2 5 progressions. To be continued.
grumpy3625 1 year ago
@pyannaguy Hi pyanna and grumpy. From my perspective, I say you can fly around the chords and hit every nuance and still sound 'ho-hum' If you don't have a good melodic and poetic sensibility. Use a computer. If you have both expertise and feeling, you are fortunate indeed. I agree that I need a lot more chordal practice. Equipment: I started on a very, very bad horn and have gradually worked myself up to this superb SBA over 35 years, and really appreciate what good equipment is worth.
BOPPPPER 1 year ago
@BOPPPPER Hi Bopper, honestly, I'm not backstroking, but truth is: I was mainly agreeing with Grumpy's comment in terms of somebody's (lots of peoples') emphasis on horns (and gear) in general. I listen to lots of music on the Tube and guitar guys, especially, go nuts with equipment and specs talk.
I thought your playing was smooth and musical (nice tone). Like Grumpy, I apologize if I sounded critical - we're all in the woodshed, as he said. Take it easy, and keep on rollin' ...
