The only lesson learned from the Soviet Invasion is to not bomb entire villages into dust. I bet what the Afghans told the Americans was the same thing they told the Soviets in the 1980s. "No matter how much aid you give us or how much infrastructure you build for us, all is pointless if you bomb civilians." It's good that USA have been very careful when bombing suspected Taliban strongholds. Unfortunately some civilians still get killed, but far less compared to what the Soviets did in 1980s.

Also, Canada and NATO are there only because we have been invited by the Afghanistan government. There was no invasion as your report suggested. As I understand it, there is a time line for Canadian troops to leave Afghanistan, not sure when, I think 2010?
