  • This interview is a really frustrating because iggy's looking for something to hate. but gzowski's not giving him anything to chew on or something to push against.

iggy comes across as self-conscious and immature and gzowski's playing possum too much. the essence of canadian-american conflict.

  • It looks like Iggy is drunk! :) OMGROTFLMAO!!!!

  • its cute at the very end

  • Guys - you have to put this interview in context. Iggy was booked to play with David Bowie on this show. When it was discovered that Bowie was not a member of the AF of M (the Musician's Union), the CBC would not allow the performance. Sop, when Iggy came out for the interview, he was VERY upset by what had happened. His attitude during the interview was largely driven by the cancellation of the performance...This was front page news in Toronto at the time.

  • "I don't like to hear it come out of someone's mouth"

"ok where do you like to hear it come out of?" -great answer!

  • @andiejanefisher im sure he meant he doesn't like people referring to others as "punk" and its not the word itself that bothers him.

  • he only says young men! :*(

  • Because it IS for men.

  • They need to show this clip at the induction of the The Stooges into the rock and roll hall of fame cuz it is really a statement of rock and roll, individualism, and freedom, all of which are sorely missing in this fucking world.

  • sigh. stupid fucking ads

  • Iggy, you are a beautiful person, I love you!!!!!!

  • Punks, they all the same! Arrogent bastards. Naw, We love the Stooges. I wanna say, Most of what Iggy says as DJ in Liberty City GTA is what he's been TRYING to say his whole life. He got it a bit more succinct in a fictional setting

  • I like Iggy but he's also being a pretentiously intellectual wiseguy. I think a current interview might have more relevance. But I guess that's not the point of these clips is it?

  • I've never seen Peter Gzowski. He's a pretty good interviewer. Iggy in this clip reminds of some people that you meet that act defensive even though you haven't been confrontational with them. Peter here isn't. Alcoholics, drug addicts and street people often behave like that. There's always something that will be brought up that they don't want to answer for. That's some of the street in Iggy.

  • iggy seems like a wanker.

  • Depends on the day, I read an interview prior to GTA coming out, and he still had some strange things to say, I believe it was from Penthouse or Playboy in fact.

  • Your a wanker.

  • oh my gosh he was so right when he made that statement about rock n roll.

  • iggy is one of the most well spoken, intelligent people i know...

  • you know him. wow did you grow up with him in jersey?

  • He is very well spoken.

  • and intelligent, didn't want to make it seem like I was purposely leaving that out haha.

  • Some guys are pure sober, and when they speak, they make NO sense. When those same guys are high they also make no sense.

Some guys (like Iggy) get high, (and rail against things people don't understand), and makes perfect sense. And when Iggy is sober, he still makes sense.

    Amazing-Genius.

  • he calls him sir cos he forget his name so honest

  • uhhh... as an off-the-cuff response to "what is punk", it's very eloquent.

  • wow what a fucking idiot. Way to be deep.

  • Iggy is so obviously whacked out on heroin. He's got those 'glassy" eyes.

  • what a bellend.

  • Isn't it brilliant the amount of innocence and condemnation. Serenity and chaos. Humor and sencerity. Simplicity and complexity. And genious and loser that can all manifest themselves into one person.

  • last thing iggy said here was priceless. =)

  • this is great. I've always been a fan of Iggy Pop, but never actually watched his interviews.

The post rock band Mogwai made a song using a sample from this interview called "Punk Rock"

  • There is a longer version of this interview. It's 9 minutes or something.

  • I remember listening to Peter's last show from Moose Jaw.

  • Always the great host. Peter Gzowski was.

This is the first time I have seen the interview with Iggy Pop, but I heard alot about it years later. Right on, great post.
