The Beatles themselves were like other men, but the music and lyrics channeled through them contained magic and hidden messages. To learn how to perceive these hidden meanings, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.
I think the thing that made them incredible was the same thing that explains why those with Down Syndrome are the happiest of all people: They live for themselves, in a positive way, and aren't afraid to be what they are, even if what they are isn't desired.
John doesn't sing rich fag jew or rich fat jew, and it wasn't aimed at Brian epstien, your all talking bullshit... Brian died in August 1967, this was recorded in December
@idaslpdhr No it WASN'T ! This was released first as the 'B' side of 'All You Need Is Love' single, released on 7 July,1967. I bought it when it came out ; how the hell was it recorded in DECEMBER ??
@TheKenfig Yeah your right it was recorded on 11 may 1967, originally intended for the yellow submarine soundtrack, Got me dayes mixed up, Point was not rich fat jew.
@idaslpdhr Youre right John DID love Brian and was the closest to him even though all the band were great friends with him. Ironically, it didn't stop John from making fun of him, which was typical of Lennon, who was known to say nasty things, even though it was 'skin deep'. Dont think he would have SANG 'rIch FAG Jew' but he did apparently, earlier on in their career, say when Epstein asked him what he should call his autobiography, "QUEER JEW" and when he said he was meeting a friend....
This is a combination of two unfinished songs. John's "Beautiful People" and Paul's "Baby You're A Rich Man." John's part was entirely about Brian Epstein. He was saying that Epstein was one of the "beautiful people" - a term that was widely used in 1967 to describe rich jet setters who facied themselves as "hippies".
Does anyone else hear Mick Jagger on this track? It's weird, but I think I do. Some Beatles book referenced on Wikipedia adds that the name "Mick" is included as singing backing vocals on the session log. Could it be? What do you all think?
@secondeagle Yes, that is possible. This was the only Beatles track recorded at The Stone's Olympic Sound Studios & it is verified he attended some of the sessions. If you really want to hear Mick listen to Carly Simon's " You're So Vain."
@12stringsforme The "weird horn" is a synthesizer line played on a clavioline; the rumors of Brian Jones playing oboe on the track have long been discredited.
@secondeagle Wikipedia supports your first statement, but the article about this song still lists an oboe for Jones. I don't trust Wiki in either case so can you please do better?
@InstantMagic That's Paul you're hearing. He often sang two part harmony with John , but could "do a Lennon" so well that people thought it was John singing solo. Sometimes during their harmonies, Paul would slip into an octave slightly higher that John's because he could. Paul was an excellent mimic and had "Elvis", "Little Richard" and "Buddy Holly" voices as well as a "John Lennon" voice. Paul admits that his Lady Madonna vocal was him doing Fats Domino.
@momtotwins07, I've heard that story, but I never actually hear Lennon sing it. I also heard that Epstein asked Lennon what he should title his autobiography and Lennon said, "Queer Jew," which caused Epstein to burst into tears. Epstein titled his book, "A Celler FUll of Guys."
@huglo it probablly is a mix due to the fact that if you have heard the original us version it sounds very thin and dull, like if you are listening through very small speakers, while the rest of the album sounds great.
As an admirer of this band(not a "fan") this is another quality song & two things stand out The tempo is slow,by today's standards but it's very rocky, plus there's one more point I'd like to make:The immedeacy & emotion of Johns voice was one of the original appealing aspects of the Beatles, and the lyrical content? Was it a reference to Brian Epstein?.......thanks greatly for this music site.....
A few years ago, when I was advancing past having only a cursory knowledge of The Beatles, I remember being blown away by these songs that I hadn't heard before because they weren't on "1's.". Most bands' best work is on their greatest hits collections and the filler on their albums is just that. When I started to hear songs like this I almost felt cheated, knowing that this had been around for the first two decades of my life. This should've been the soundtrack to my youth, damn it!
Forty Thousand Dollars?!! How did you come up with that figure? My Mac cost 800.00, my monitor was 125.00, and my Beatles videos probably cost around 200 bucks. I use a demo version of Peak to remaster the audio. A little bit of know how can be stretched a long way, my friend.
I totally agree Schubie....after my PC died last year, I edited video and audio from a laptop that I inherited from my sister....in less than a year, I have 2 second hand PC's that work wonderfully, and my laptop. And you're right, you don't need 40k to do miracles. BTW, love the remix you did. It's one of my favorite songs and your work on this track is even better than the remastered. Thanks so much for sharing :D
@mrsdoyle2003 I wouldn't necessarily say it's better but, it's definitely different. The Yellow Submarine remix that came out in 99' was a great remix. Check out my Strawberry Fields video. That was a remastering job that I did off of the first CD release & I think I did a better job then the guys who had access to the original master recording.
@schubie2 I do agree, but for this one in particular, it is excellent :D And I will check out Strawberry Fields. You're very welcome to check out my channel. I have a video that I edited with a remix of a few Beatle songs. Tell me what you think of it. I'll appreciate your feedback :D
did you guys know that at the very end Lennon sings BABY YOU'RE A RICH FAG JEW. he's refering to brian epstein of course. just a little bit of Beatles trivia.
@glasgowrus Lennon, allegedly, (I'm not convinced) sang 'fag Jew' in reference to Brian Epstein who was Jewish and gay. It wouldn't make sense if it was 'fat Jew', unless you know something I don't.
