i dont know what year it was,but gibson made what they called the bone crusher,it was bearclaw spruce on walnut,a full blown dreadnaught called a j 65 ,gibson only made a hand full of these things, and they were trying to out do the martin d 28. i think that walnut tone woods might be a happy medium between rose wood and mahogany. has any one ever seen an arched back slope shoulder made out of ceder on walnut, with a v profiled neck? i mean is it possible to make a guitar like that ?,
Hi Ben great vid as always...on the guitar front I've got a friend looking for a new guitar...so would appreciate an email or link to his site...cheers
Your videos are very helpful thanks a lot. What strength pick do you use for fast picking? Any exercises you would recommend to improve scales and speed?
@alphapup100 I use a really thick pick...at least a 1mm, thought the tortoise shell pick I use is more like a 1.2 . Hope that helps! I should be putting a vid out shortly about exercises. Stay tuned!
man, ive always learned it better to just listen to it fast, then figure it out. ive always played everything by ear, and the whole slowing down thing really messes with me. well, at least when its slowed that much. plus, i cant read sheet music or tabs either one. but, awesome lesson overall man. ive also taken up mandolin recently, and its not taking off like i thought it would. could you maybe make a few vids for your mando guys out here? thanks alot buddy. keep them coming.
Hey Ben, I am sure you tabbed it....I really like it cause it's a mix of Bryan Sutton style, Tony Rice (how could we miss him) but also you added crosspicking and down-ups...very very cool....so, the tab I saw in your website is the one you're playing here or is an easier version? Regarding guitars I would really love to show you an Italian very young guitar maker who builts at collings standards level...his name is Mario Pistella...a genius!!! He's on facebook..
The tab is EXACTLY as you see here...that's why it took me so long. All the songs are exact transcriptions with pick direction, chords, and backup tracks included. Enjoy!
Hey Ben is this tabbed out anywhere that you know of?. I am a bit slow and even at your slow speed I just can't keep up. Just wondering?? Hope all is well and that you had a great Thanksgiving and hope you have a wonderful Christmas...
I've got the tab sitting RIGHT here and I'm almost finished with my website dude and should have 'em posted before too long! Thanks for being patient, and have a Merry Christmas!
don't usually do this but had to say Thank You Ben, If not for you I truly would not be where I am today, you save me so much time and help with creativity, you also polished my foggy mountain breakdown, now who else would do that :) your the best!!! what are your sisters and you gonna call yourselves? anything on the horizon with that?
I use a big tortoise shell 3 sided pick. I didn't always use that, though. I think it just depends on the person. It took me a while to get used to a pick that big, but now it's tough to play with a normal guitar pick.
Hey BanjoBen! I tabbed out your stuff and have been working on getting it up to speed. It's so fun but man I can only play it cleanly at 111 pbm. Any faster and i start making mistakes. I was curious to know about how long it took for you to write, memorize, and play this at the speed you are playing. You are a sick player and love your lessons... peace out!
p.s. I'm sure it's not on your end...I've run into this before...dammit....haven't figgered out how to save the vids...I think that would solve the problem...
love ya ben!!...I'm just bummed cuz there's a lag ..video is just behind audio...kind of a bummer when trying to learn...but not bad enough for me to stop trying..!!..just a bump in the road...
I have been enjoying your videos for the past few weeks. It takes me back to our sophmore year. I enjoyed seeing you on an award show the other night as well. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the great work
Dude you are slick! Thanks so much for the incredible videos and instructions, my hopes are to learn to play again and after hearing you your work is so amazing! Thanks again!

Did that fill in guitar have maple back and sides. That sounds really sweet. If it didn't sound good, you would make it sound good any way.
