No, playon.tv is not free -- it's free to TRY and then there's a monthly subscription fee. Also, if you have a bluray player with netcast, this is completely useless, because netcast automatically comes with netflix, pandora radio, and another app called divx tv that gives you a lot of public domain tv blips, like adult swim and comedy central ...

playon has support or so many sites its scary. as for hulu and netflick they both can be done for free with the netflicks app and orb. but orb needs a pretty hefty pc to run ok. my single core amd just didnt have enough power for orb to do hulu without legging like crazy. stuff on my hardrive did fine. playon did fine with net media but whent crazy with media on my drive but that part is still beta.

FYI: Netflix has recently released their own app on the Wii. PlayOn is now considered obsolete by that.

how do i run my ethernet line for this? my cable enters the back on my house into the basement and my tv and home entertainment are on the first floor but my computer with cable modem is on the 2nd. do i run the ethernet up from where the cable enters in the basement or do i have to run it down from my cable modem upstairs?

@VenisonFajitas You need to get a wireless router...it'll cost probably less than the amount of ethernet cable you would need. Connect your computer to the router via ethernet, then use the wireless to connect the Wii.

Playon is pretty cool, way better than Orb for sure. It sucks though because my trial expired in 7 days so I entered an activation code I got off a website but it was expired and now it won't let me take the code off and it still says that my licsense is expired so I'm gonna try to uninstall then reinstall Playon on a different user profile.

yeah you need a netflix account and you have to pay for it, I have it and it's worth it I get to rent unlimited dvds 2 at a time to come to my house, and i get unlimited streaming from it meaning movies and tv shows and i only pay i think 16.00 a month...

Sort of. The Wii has to be on the same local network as the computer running playon. In my video you can see that I selected "XP-Desktop" which is the name of my computer running the playon server program.

Yep, the computer is downloading the video and sending it to your Wii. It doesn't matter if it is a laptop or a desktop.

One of the devices (the Wii or the computer) should be connected directly to the router. It doesn't work well if both are using wireless.
