It's funny that they had to dumb down the guitar solo for their live performances since they couldn't match Tedesco's virtuosity. Wrecking crew ftw! Watch the documentary, its great.
Actually Rick Nelson had more talent, and was also another who had a famous family name. Gary was very good and had great people like Leon Russell guiding him...
I remember being a wee one watching him on tv variety shows and having the biggest crush on Gary.I bet I'm taller than he is now. He looks like he's all of 5'2". I've heard he's a very, very nice man.
One of the only famous person's kids who acually had talent. This guy was the real deal and with the help of Snuff Garrett and Leon Russell, Gary was a huge star. But it was his voice and looks and talent that made him a star......not his dad.
@taypar11 That is not his voice, he had such a bad voice they had to dub over it 10 times. What you hear on the record is nothing like his real voice.
@polarisathena It was his father who was on the MDA Telethon. Jerry Lewis. This is his son, Gary Lewis! I saw Gary Lewis & The Playboys back in the 60's. Now Gary Lewis lives about 10 miles away. Kind of cool, at least, for me as I was a big fan! :-))
it's true that this group is one of the best group that aroused in the 60's and 70's yet all their songs are for keeps....keep on Gary and the Playboys !!!
I don't give a shit!!! Gary Lewis and the Playboys were great! Fuck all you bullshit people that judge a great act that had so many hits like 3 Dog Night, The Association and yes, Gary and his great band which was produced by the great Leon Russell. So Fuck all of you naysayers!!
@MrRaiderfan1000 - Did a bit of research on this and while yes, it does look like an accordion, it was actually a somewhat rare bird called a Cordovox - it was probably built to ease the various problems a traditional accordionist had to deal with. Like most electronic instruments, it did not rely on air to produce sound - hence the absence of the bellows! I have no idea as to how many of these were made or if it is produced now. GL&TPB's are the only ones I know of who used it.
@JJRaff18221882 Thanks for the feedback. When this song was on the charts I was learning how to play the accordian. My parents use to make me take out the accordian and play it at the parties.
@MrRaiderfan1000 Glad I could offer some insight here! My step-dad played the accordion from 1955 to about 1965 (the height of GL&TPB's popularity). He still has it, but arthritis and back problems won't allow him to play it anymore )-: There was actually an accordion school here in our town at one time (which I think folded in the early 70's) Sometime in the 80's, John called a local music store about some accordion sheet music and was told there was no longer any demand here for it here!
@audiomez first he recorded the kickerbockers in his home studio then he coproduced gary lewis and did whrt ever was neccesary later when he made his own albums he said he really didnt like those records
Nostalgia, miss the sixties as it brought the Beatles and sound alike groups but I was a child at the time so I miss some of the going ons. Peace and love!
To me, this is actually one of Gary's more sophisticated and complex songs. Well written, well performed, well produced. One of my favorites of all Gary's songs.
This is a good clip from the Ed Sullivan Show, I assume. The group did another version of this song with piano and some harder percussion, which I prefer.
How many of you remember when just about every elementary school student took accordian lessons? I wish more young people today would take up this interesting instrument. Mine play the viola, guitar and clarinet which are nice also. THANK YOU GARY FOR PUTTING TOGETHER THIS EXCELLENT COMBO. Peace & Love to ALL.

The guitar solo was done by Tommy Tedesco, and the backing track "The Wrecking Crew" which along with Tommy had Hal Blaine, Leon Russell as members
