@rafekazi it's because you cant use the fill tool when using the pen tool, even more when you are using layers since it will fill the entire canvas not just the area you want it to.

So SAI and Photoshop seem rather similar. I know of people that use Sai to sketch and photoshop to color I was just wondering what the differences were to make people use both instead of one or the other. I use photoshop and have just recently found out about SAI so am very curious.

@Bopperkid Yep, they are rather similar! Many people people who use SAI for "everything" (sketching, painting, etc) still go back to Photoshop to add the final effects just because it has more options. PS is used for a lot of things other than drawing such as photo manipulation so it just has TONS of options. SAI focuses on the drawing aspect, ESPECIALLY in anime style. So they've developed smoother pressure sensitivity for lineart (big reason why people like it) and their colors look very crisp

@KyDDiRIE04 Sorry for the late reply. I just copy the reference image and the paste it when I'm in SAI. I think it automatically goes into a new layer when you do that. To paste, I just use the shortcut Ctrl + V.

And just set your canvas size to whatever size you want. It's always better to start big - if it's too small you can just crop it.

@solidwingtsunkid you'll wanna use the ink pen tool on a regular layer not a line art layer and the stabilizer at like s-6 ( it's up top to the right last option on the top bar) makes the best lines for me

You make a layer over it and then drag it back under the lines. So in the end the bottom most layer is the color and the top most layer is the lineart.

Create another layer and then move it under the layer you have with the lineart in it. Then color in the new empty layer.

You should have two layers. The one on top is the lineart, and the one on the bottom is the color.
