Lily and Snape were best friends, but if you remember from the 5th book, Snape called her a Mudblood. That was the end of their friendshipe -- he was too much of a coward to ever tell her how in love with her he was. Lily and Snape's falling out started her thing with James -- so if Snape was never so angry to call her a Mudblood, he would have married her.

Voldemort killed him to master the elder wand. His story is just so sad.

I too loved snape the most, his story was by far the best, followed by dumbledore's of course. He had the most painful life i think, having to see his lilly's eyes whenever harry looked at him, its just so sad
