Nice, you guys sound like you'd be exceptional in a personal setting where listeners can hear all the sounds and musicians can just play. Like you dont need to practice and can innovate on the fly. You know this obviously.
6:49 - watch this for a while, it has VERY much the flavor of LZ 'Since I Been Lovin' You' and yet I really like what he's doing that's different - I'd like to cop some of these licks and runs just to learn a bit from him.
1959 Les Paul, worth nearly what my house is (up here in Canada!)
Vote up for vintage LPs being used to create and play music!
What is the song they start to play at 8:34 ? I just can't figure it. i know i've heard it somehwere at some point and it's been hounting me ever since. Great track.
13 mins is NOT enuf! I was just settled in for an hour and a half or TWO! MORE MORE MORE. We want more. I can recall when we were hearing all over the media, "He'll never play again..." and thinking ~with some panic "NOoooohhh That CAN'T BE!" God is GOOD! We're STILL reaping what He sowed in your soulz! Like fine barrel aged whiskey.....smooothe heat & REEwarding! May He keep Blessing you with "the magic."
MAN what i wouldn't give to be there in that studio/clubhouse. i'd be willing to be a fly on the wall, their gofer, the carpet under their feet. being a musician, i reallly can appreciate this setting. good God, can you imagine the security around this place, all those vintage guitars, etc
I love how they get along so well as a group, as friends, actually they love each other like brothers. That they would hang out, play together, sing together, just let each other throw in whatever pops into their head as something that could work for a song, shows just how much they value each other professionally. TP&HB get along much like TP/TW got along because of mutual respect, trust, faith, admiration. Any ego issues get chucked at the door, because they know they don't need them their.
No one does what tom and the boys do.. Keep killing the airwaves, even if the radio dont play it, you know we will!! Rock nRoll shall live until the World crumbles!
One of the songs they do in this documentary is awesome, but is not on the CD! It's one that starts around 8:30 and continues until 11:20. The song is "Help me", by Sonny Boy Williamson II. Does anyone know how to get Tom Petty's version as on this documentary?

@Wandered1441 why? let them do what they feel- These boys are from a different time- go check out minus the Bear or the lost Prophets. I am 52 and a huge classic rock/blues guy, but there is a lot of good new music out there, you just have to look for it- don't get me wrong- tom petty is one of the best acts ever in my opinion, but don't sell some of these new guys short. there is a lot of talent waiting to be discovered-
My best concert ever ? Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Grateful Dead & Bob Dylan all under one roof, date is kinda foggy, it was in the twin cities. 1985 or 86?
Mike said he felt the album was built around his new guitar. If you are going to do that, I'm glad they chose Gibson. Not a commercial... just a huge fan.
THERE IS NO ONE LIKE TOM PETTY!!! THE FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU HEAR ONE OF HIS SONGS IS INCREDIBLE! And when you see him in concert words can NEVER describe it!
@christianalexlea ...Steve used to play drums for jazz artist George Duke...He has been around the block a lot longer than Stan and been a Heartbreaker for 15 years...I agree, he is awesome! Catch some of his jazz solos on youtube
@DoowahDiatribe Yeahhhh hes good i just litened to all of Mojo for the first time todayy, i knew steve'd replaced Stan a long time ago but i never realised he was English before (Im english)! Hes pretty awesome drummer but i still prefer stan for the Heartbreakers! Ill look up some of his jazz drumming tho :D
@christianalexlea ..it helps to talk. I am a real T & H fan as I know you are. It is so cool to get different looks on the band. Since I was born in the same town as Tom, and heard two of the earlier band (epics, mudcrutch) back when I was a bit younger - I like everything all of them have ever done. Love ya
@DoowahDiatribe Hmm I'd never thought about it like the ron and howie thing! maybe if steve ever leaves Stan will return like Ron did! because I'm sure they're still on good terms (they reunited at the rock n roll hall of fame thing in about '02 I think) (: tom petty is tooo good
@christianalexlea Ya, I like what your feeling because I think your thinkin you want the band to go on Forever. Though Steve loves the rest of the band and they connect with him, and he's gonna be there unless Humpty Dumpty comes around the corner. Stan quit - the band of that time..Bet he wishes he was playin on MOJO though!
this album blew me away big time !! excellent album !! I didn't know they were that good. whole album is filled with emotions !!Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Rocks !!
awesome documentary/film/video but I must say that anime ad at the beginning is probably the least fitting advertisement that youtube could have picked
It is a transducer (microphone). It's called a "sub-kick." More surface area = more low frequencies at close range. Good for situation where you can't stand a mic 4+ feet away from the front of the kick to get those long waves.
Excuse my cynicism, but In this day and age where the bar has been lowered to the lowest common denominator-disingenuous, manufactured, manipulated, fraudulent crap-it gives me the best feeling in the world knowing that TP and the Heartbreakers still put out great works like MOJO-genuine, sincere, real and with soul. Keep fighting the good fight Tom!
im going to see them in dallas and houston later this year. i've seen them 6 times and its always good. These guys are rock N roll Royalty. Greatest American rock band ever!!!!!
great vibe on this recording , after seeing the Club House I can see why , live cuts are always the best I think . And I agree , record of the year , so far !
Addictive and a truly truly amazing CD. IMHO, the best sounding yet. I love the "live" album approach. I've always felt they sound great, if not better, live than their studio self.
awesome, just awesome. TP's masterful lyrics, and the band of bands with of course the MOST under rated, and tasteful guitarist on the planet gettin' his props! Wail those blues boys...
When I'm in the car... When I'm in the car it travels with me, and I see the clouds dance to the rythmic sounds of my poetic majestic velvet sounded words, that cover my soul in an array of neon colors which takes me back to the bourbon street blues days, stuck in suck me off alley's and dark corridors of lonesome stoned death.. Then I awake from my freedom dream and crawl back to reality...
The chemistry between the band has got to have a huge influence on the music. It's really cool to see. That's Mojo - and I don't take that stuff for granted anymore. I'd love to find some people to play with where we have that kind of chemistry. It's powerful.
Nice, you guys sound like you'd be exceptional in a personal setting where listeners can hear all the sounds and musicians can just play. Like you dont need to practice and can innovate on the fly. You know this obviously.

The transformation of Tom Petty into a true American legend comparable with Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan.

Anyone know what the deal is with the bass drum? It looks like a snare drum vertically is mounted to the front of it.
Havaseet 1 year ago
It is a transducer (microphone). It's called a "sub-kick." More surface area = more low frequencies at close range. Good for situation where you can't stand a mic 4+ feet away from the front of the kick to get those long waves.

Excuse my cynicism, but In this day and age where the bar has been lowered to the lowest common denominator-disingenuous, manufactured, manipulated, fraudulent crap-it gives me the best feeling in the world knowing that TP and the Heartbreakers still put out great works like MOJO-genuine, sincere, real and with soul. Keep fighting the good fight Tom!

great vibe on this recording , after seeing the Club House I can see why , live cuts are always the best I think . And I agree , record of the year , so far !

Addictive and a truly truly amazing CD. IMHO, the best sounding yet. I love the "live" album approach. I've always felt they sound great, if not better, live than their studio self.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are THE great American rock band, hands down. Bruce who?

Springsteen rocks, but Tom Petty and the heartbreakers are definetly the greatest American rock band ever. No doubt about it!!

Bruce SPRINGSTEEN!
I actually am a huge Bruce fan, but it just so happens I'm a huge Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers fan too. Both of them are excellent.

Well said TP.

awesome, just awesome.

Chi, Ki, Wa, "The Force", or Mojo - I don't care what you call it, the HB's are a tasteful Rockn' Roll band.

The chemistry between the band has got to have a huge influence on the music. It's really cool to see. That's Mojo - and I don't take that stuff for granted anymore. I'd love to find some people to play with where we have that kind of chemistry. It's powerful.
