Yes the Stealth/3000GT are the same car besides the body trim. The Stealth was actually dropped before the 3000GT, just as the Eagle Talon (twin of the Eclipse) was dropped in 1998 while the same generation of Eclipse ran until 1999.

They were popular, but didn't sell well due to their high price tags brought on by the strong Yen/weak Dollar at the time (just like the Supra, RX7 and 300zx).

yea 3000gt vr4 never had the option for automatic it not a sissy car. it was always a standard, as for the japanese car the mitsubishi gto which i have =D is also standard you can however get the mitsubishi gto which is right hand drive in automatic but they dont have twin turbo but they do have awd as all the gto (right hand drive models) were awd. with that said all gto non turbo were just like the 300gt sl but awd.

So NO there wasn't an option for an auto VR4. There were rumors of 1 or 2 being made for the CEO's of Mitsubishi, but that doesn't make it an option or is there any real proof that this rumor is a fact. Do your research...or just read the research I did for all you that think there were awd auto TT's (whether GTO TT or MR, 3000GT VR4 or Stealth RT TT) from the factory or as an option. Didn't happen. They can be converted by using the awd atx from the NON-turbo GTO SR's. So, there may be some out there, but someone has converted them.

There are 2 ways an awd atx tt can be done. Swapping an awd atx from a GTO SR into a VR4 along with all other necessary parts (6spd rear end, tcu, etc.). Or you could take the hard route of converting a fwd atx 3000GT/Stealth to awd then installing the SR transmission. (more to it than that, just not typing it all out)

I never said you were wrong about there being awd atx tt's out there, just that NONE came from the factory that way. There were awd atx's, but all were non-turbo model GTO SR's.

Definitely custom jobs. There is a program out there that lets you look up all of the vins for these cars (GTO's, 3000GT's, and Stealths) and there were never any factory produced awd atx twin turbo's. There are 1 or possibly 2 that could have been made for the ceo's of Mitsubishi. But they can't seem to be tracked down, so most think they were most likely concepts, test cars, or specially made only for the 2 ceo's.

Make sure to get pics of the engine bay and the underside of the car. Also, I bet that he said something about only 231 VR4's since you say it was in 97 when she got it. The 98 were release late in 97. If I had to bet I would say that the car is a fwd tt. Could be wrong, but that a lot of work either way for a dealership to go through. It's fairly simple to do a tt conversion to a fwd atx. Many people have done it. BTW, the reason the vid sounds like an atx is the longggg gearing of the VR4's.
