Jeeps are pretty good with traction and all-terrain factory, but if you want to go rock crawling or mudding then the correct gear ratio rear axle, a sturdy lift set up, and large offroad tires couldn't hurt. Never had a problem with it. well, only one time, the transmission started slipping, but then we realized that we had never changed the transmission fluid in the 6 years we had owned it. What came out can only be described as mud. changed it, still running nice. Just because you got one shitty Explorer doesn't mean that they all are. Besides, theeee best Explorer were the first 2 generations.
