SUIKODEN was gotten for me by " accident " now i see it was fate. This is not just a game or a good song.... it is a part of me .... it shaped me into who i am today.....Thankyou =)
Saddest part of the game imo. Knowing you (Tir) are watching your best friend (Ted) start his tragic and long journey that will ultimately kill him, and you can do nothing to alter it. Used to listen to this piece all the time once I recruit Kasios
@InfectiousShroomKid A lot of sad things may or may not have happened in this game, Grimeo's sacrifice, Odessa's assassination and Pahn's death in battle against the very man he swore to serve were some of the most shocking things the first time I played it as a youngster. Only in subsequent playthroughs did I even learn you could save Gremio and Pahn, haha. Still one of the best RPGs out there IMO.
@MisterGency Yeah I know what you mean. My only exception was Pahn. My first playthrough of the game, he died in battle with Teo, but still appeared at my castle and I could put him in my party. I assumed he didnt die during that fight in retrospect but couldnt really understand how he got back. Plus everyone acted like he was dead so it confused the holy shit out of me until I found out that wasnt supposed to happen.
Im playing tierkreis right now, which is actually pretty decent. But hearing this music makes me remember how much more powerhouse suikoden 1-2 and even 5 are in comparison to tierkreis. tierkreis kinda tries to go for that cute-ds-small 3d modelled thing, even the voice acting is a little childish. Meanwhile the older suikodens are alot more mature.
@jajagerman oh please don't bother with 4? It was also quite dark and was about friendship as well and it played and felt like playing Suikoden 1. You have really missed this one friend
This is one of the best game music sequences I've ever heard. I still get choked up remembering how it felt thinking I was going to leave Ted behind.
Actually if you start the game with the game data from the previous one, it often releases a little bit more of the story line (except I don't think it worked with 3 to 4). It says that 4 happened about 150 years before 5, 5 happened about 15 years before 1, 2 happened about 3 years after 1, & 3 happened about 20 years after 2. The dates are probably a little off- it's been years since I played most of them. Viki's blinking & Jeanne's true rune are the reason that they appear in all 5 games.
@arisblaze Konami stated that Jeane does not have a true rune, however in Suikoden III Koroku is able to see the real Jeane. So She does not have a true rune, but she is probably a creature that is able to live for hundreds of years.
Well, to be honest: The whole Suikoden Soundtrack (1 and 2) belongs to the best game-music ever. Still got those games in my CD-pocket. Actually I planned to sell them on ebay but regarding the fact that there are lots of memories connected with those games, I decided to keep them. :)
You remember trying to get the sword to defeat Neclord, and all of a sudden you are in the past. 600 years ago, the year Ted's long journey began, and who knows when it ends...
Sink in? What the hell are you talkin about lol. I'm just saying, ruin of punishment has made a similar impact to on people. Soul Eater (and suiko1) are cooler, sure. But you can't deny what Ruin of punishment has done.
By the way, all true runes grant eternal life. Including Ruin of Punishment in forgiveness phase.
By the way, Ted was not resurrected in 5. Suikoden 5 is like, a hundred (and some odd) years before Suikoden 1. So that means Ted had been wandering that long, it wasn't until a hundred years later he would meet Tir and be killed by Wendy.
I wonder where this Village was, geography wise. Ted has been all over the place...
My favorite song in the entire game, so relaxing but so sad cuz u kno u gone have to leave little ted behind :(, i hope when the next one comes out, its epic like part 1 and 2, the others were alright but none top the first two, and i want to see viktor and flik return and be major characters
God I am so glad I played this game especially for the soundtrack. I remember my brother playing FF7 and i was playing this and I just told him to fuck off with ff7 cause i was having way too much fun. Although I did eventually play ff7 and it was one of the greatest games ever, but nothing makes your soul feel like this game can. I'll never forget this story and this music.
well in suikoden 6 or 5 ted has been ressurect by leknaat good thing that leknaat is in the whole suikoden episode but i think leknaat is not in suikogaiden! am i right peyser
This was the best song in the whole game, in my opinion. And the game itself was awesome! ^w^ I still have it, in awesome playing condition. And even though I've played the game countless times, it will forever be my most favorite game!
Still my favorite in the Suikoden music, whatever it lacked in amazing graphics it made up with a great storyline, superb musical score and excellent gameplay.
IMHO While i found Suikoden 2 Filled with more enjoyable gameplay. Suikoden I has the best soundtrack in the whole series... Not only compositionally but quality. It's way ahead of its time.
100% agree, though the other thing that made the 1st suikoden superior for me was the art style - the watercolour character portraits had so much more ambiance than the more cartoony direction the series went afterwards.
Suikoden I had imo the best video game soundtrack of alltime. There are other amazing ones, but none matched the atmostpheric and instrumental quality of this one. Not to mention the wide variety of ethnic influences.
Wild Arms I is my #2, then prob FFIV for sentiment's sake.
This game is still a favorite of mine and always will be. After playing the Final Fantasy games for so long that It was time for a RPG that was very political but also had that magical/fantasy to go with it.
This is my favorite RPG of all time. The second one was good too, but this one really struck a cord with me. The characters and the story were just so real to me. After the second one, the series kinda went downhill in my opinion :(
@PeyserConley Hey i wanna thank you for uploading ll these amazing songs, i played and completed both S1 and S2 i love both games in there own ways, i played this 1 first and its sad to think i was only 13 when i played this, 25 now miss the good old days of retro greatness that not many games come even close..anyway thanks again, victor and flik forever :)
@Killaclass1 ya but at least u can revisit the dragon knights castle u cannot revisit this place lol and this is the best song from the game and one of the best from the series
the only thing i disagree with on StewNWT's comment was that Suikoden II was " to me" just as emotionally gripping as this one. They could be movies, but he's right about the other ones, they don't come close
The impact of the Soul Eater lays not only on the fact that it absorbs souls for power, its WHO it absorbs. When you play the game, you think Odessa, Teo and Ted will join your side, and that Gremio will be by your side, forever. But the Rune took those souls, and transformed them into unimaginable power. The main reason other runes, like the Rune of Punishment, cant even compare to the Soul Eater is because they don't have the same emotional impact.
I noticed that Tir learns new skills when people he loves die..the soul eater...its as if it consumed the souls of the ones that died being loved by him and turned them into power fot itself :/
IMHO this is the best piece in the game. For me it's right up there with Corridors of TIme from Chrono Trigger as the best video game BGM ever.
It defines the Village of the Hidden RUne as a tragic, determinded people destined to suffer a cruel and hideous fate, guarding a secret of unimaginable power...
Its amazing coming to some of these videos and reading what people have thought or felt about a game that i myself have felt when i played it. I agree with you StewNWT 100% . Added to playlist. Thank you for sharing PeyserConley
Cool beans. It's a shame we didn't get to learn more about Ted, the secrets of the Souleater, and what drove a rift between Windy and Leknaat. For me, the whole game was a parallel war - the rebellion against the Scarlet Moon Empire and the obsessive search to master the Souleater.
The best in the Suikoden series (for me they've gotten progressively worse..unfortunately just like the Mana series. And my favorite soundtrack ever, VERY ethnic. Wild Arms 1 was also an incredible soundtrack.
I used to figure skate (way back in the day) and actually did a short program to this piece, loved it! Did a double flip double toe combo right at the height of the piccolo, into footwork.
No shops, no charachters, and only a one time visit. Yet, This village remains one of the mos memorable in all the Suikoden saga. Visiting this village is supposed to have left you with the sole impact of viewing the Soul Eater for what it truly was: a Rune that brought tragedy to those around it. No other Rune in ANY Suikoden has made the same impact as the Soul Eater.
@onehundred10million Agreed, the Soul Eater and this whole story blows away all other suikodens. Though I truely loved Suikoden 2, the bright shield rune was too cliche for the main character and the other suikodens...well I just don't see them as the same as the first two.
@P0ko4Sh0 I see your Rune of Punishment, which destroys everything around it, including it's bearer, and raise you a Rune of Life and Death (Soul Eater), which not only destroys everything around it as well, but also absorbs the souls of those it's bearer holds closest, all while granting it's bearer eternal life. Let that sink in for a while
@Wien I did. No, the Rune of Punishment does not count because it kills its bearer. Considering how those who have been cursed with bearing true runes have turned out, like Ted, Luc, The Flame Champ and otehrs have turned out, that's a mercy. And as if that was not enough, once the Rune of Punishment enters Forgiveness Mode, it turns into the most Uber Rune in the world (as far as we know...) But the soul eater still eats the souls of Others...
@onehundred10million The Rune of Punishment has claimed many more users than the Soul Eater. It does have the capacity for good, but its requirements for that come few between far stretches of time. Ted was at least able to live for 300 years and managed to forge a friendship with Tir and the gang... that has to count for something. Lazlo had to go into isolation because nobody wanted that damn rune anywhere near them. He knew once he died, the rune would go apeshit again and destroy everything.
@Wien OK, I am willing to admit, the Rune of Punishment comes close. It does not, in my oppinion, surpass the tragedy of the Soul Eater, but it does come close. The Rune of Punishment does kill a lot, as well as teh Soul Eater. They are both harbringers of tragedy. I ythink we can agree on that
SUIKODEN was gotten for me by " accident " now i see it was fate. This is not just a game or a good song.... it is a part of me .... it shaped me into who i am today.....Thankyou =)
