Google maps to GPS

do you know how to transfer routes to a gps? with google map or google earth?

In my case I have a Garmin nuvi. The Garmin software "Basecamp" allows transfer with Google Earth.

I can veiw my routes created on the GPS on GE or I can create a route on GE and transfer to BC then to the GPS.

There seem to be many decriptions of how to do this by searching a business and then sending to GPS, but I saw that many people were confused as how to just select any location and send it.
