Genius, Incredible technique but remaining a play to be improved better with respect to its ending, I always think this whenever listening to his music. Nevertheless, I respect him and doubtlessly, he is one of the greatest ukulele artists in the world.
Where did he come from?.....never ever heard of him, but NOW, I'm a fan for life!...so, his name is James Hill!.....in the future, I'll keep my eyes and EARS on alert for anything he puts here on youtube. One hell of a talent, do doubt about that!..And, where the heck does he get those arrangements?.. I'd guess, he puts it all together himself!.. I had wondered if his uke was amplified or not...
How about just putting his vids together on a CD and sell it? This guy deserves being paid for such great job (not considering fact that he'd get 1-2% of true CD's price ^^)
HEADLINE: Roy Smeck the Wizard of the Strings has been reincarnated as James Hill. Seriously, that's what happened! I actually began applauding when James finished the performance. BTW, does anyone know if James has ever played with Tommy Emmanuel? I know Jake has, but James is little more like Tommy in the way he treats the uke like a one-man-band. It could make for a VERY interesting duo! Also, can someone tell me what uke James is playing here? It's GORGEOUS!
I agree with you! He did a uke workshop in my town yesterday! I went, and after the workshop we (we meaning him and I and the others) got to perform with him on stage! We opened for the NB youth orchestra :D he signed my ukulele -3
this dude is soo chill, i hung out w/ him @the Cerritos ukulele Festival and opened for him at the night concert. i need to start playing again i forgot everything pretty much...
@evieevelyn I thought I commented that because a.) I'm called evelyn and b.) my nickname is eevee - and I was thinking of commenting the exact same thing. Weeeeird.
Well I hope you or james don't feel offended. I wasn't referencing his personality (cause he looks like a regular nice enough guy) but the audacity of asking so much for a ukulele.... a ukulele ?! : P
ok, but you are aware that I mean his signature model on his website, brand new out of the factory? Not the model he plays with, but a completely different ookoolehleh with only his name on it.
@Outerwebs He uses low A tuning

A majority of Uke's I see for sale are upwards of 4000-5000. 2250 isnt bad really. Not reasonable but they sell.
Jenisonc 2 years ago
are they made of gold? you could easily get one for 30$ if you wanted
facelesspride 2 years ago
those ones are supposed to be really bad: for the first week or so you have to re-tune them after each song.
absolutelykinda 2 years ago
ukes go out of tune fast because they have nylon strings. They sound best with stretchy strings like aquilas.
I have found that aquilas take about 2 weeks to bed in. This is a characteristic of the strings.
James Hill and Jake both use d'Addario J71 pro Arte strings. I believe they are a bit more stable, so better suited for performance.
I don't use cheap ukes. :)
eschelar 2 years ago
James uses Hilo strings.
