  • @Outerwebs He uses low A tuning

  • Genius, Incredible technique but remaining a play to be improved better with respect to its ending, I always think this whenever listening to his music. Nevertheless, I respect him and doubtlessly, he is one of the greatest ukulele artists in the world.

  • Wow!!! Amazing!

  • ai brazilzão somostodosum

  • he is amazing.....

  • Salpedi@ I am a fan to you should get a uke he make a how to play a uke book and look for a DVD called the mighty uke

  • Where did he come from?.....never ever heard of him, but NOW, I'm a fan for life!...so, his name is James Hill!.....in the future, I'll keep my eyes and EARS on alert for anything he puts here on youtube. One hell of a talent, do doubt about that!..And, where the heck does he get those arrangements?.. I'd guess, he puts it all together himself!.. I had wondered if his uke was amplified or not...

  • Give him four strings. And he comes up with a six-man band.

  • That was pretty sick!!

  • And when I just got bored with Ukes, here You come, James!

  • Amazing! Especially the " all imaginary friends playing together" part

  • Congratulations from Brasil!

  • uau

  • What tuning is that?

  • @LKadalipp gCEA

  • @fencerboy1234 You mean low g ?

  • @LKadalipp Yes, James uses low G tuning

  • Turns into Sims music haha

  • he looks like Rafinha Bastos w/ long hair

  • I've never heard the ukulele before but this has inspired me.

  • B.

  • Has anyone ever realized how much he looks like John Petrucci?

  • Comment removed

  • Is that a Tenor uke right? which tuning? low G?

  • @viniciuswonderboy Yes he plays it with a low G.

  • How about just putting his vids together on a CD and sell it? This guy deserves being paid for such great job (not considering fact that he'd get 1-2% of true CD's price ^^)

  • AMAZING!

  • if you know how to play the guitar you'll be more amazed rather than not knowing how to play the guitar..

  • best version of "one note samba" i ever heard

  • @museumofmakingmusic

Thanks, they just had that slidey sound that steel strings have when you run a finger up them

  • Those are steel strings, right?

  • @PurpleCashew James prefers Hilo strings, which are black nylon. You can find out more on his website.

  • Awesome! Can't help but love it.

  • @DonyaLane It's his custom all-koa G-String. Phenomenal instruments, those.

  • HEADLINE: Roy Smeck the Wizard of the Strings has been reincarnated as James Hill. Seriously, that's what happened! I actually began applauding when James finished the performance. BTW, does anyone know if James has ever played with Tommy Emmanuel? I know Jake has, but James is little more like Tommy in the way he treats the uke like a one-man-band. It could make for a VERY interesting duo! Also, can someone tell me what uke James is playing here? It's GORGEOUS!

  • Cara, você é muito bom.

    Man, you're really good.

--Brazilian fond of Uke, fan of MPB and good music listener.

  • How on earth can you not like this, this guy is amazing! Get's two thumbs up from me!

  • the way he strums with the fingers of his right hand is really reminiscent of buckethead's tapping

  • it almost sound like two instruments. That means he's good

  • @ artsygala

I agree with you! He did a uke workshop in my town yesterday! I went, and after the workshop we (we meaning him and I and the others) got to perform with him on stage! We opened for the NB youth orchestra :D he signed my ukulele -3

  • James Hill is my favourite uke master. Amazing talent. I like Jake S. in small doses, but I can listen to James all day.

  • Jake's amazing, but if I'm going to listen to uke music all evening, it's going to be James Hill....just sayin!

  • what brand of uke?

  • Best uke player on YouTube

  • what is that great strum pattern at 2:06?

  • @Kajot560 - that's crazy...!!!!!

  • @Kajot560

  • He's got the same name as me! :D

  • AH-MAZING.

  • G-String Ukulele Co. are essentially luthiers. 2500 isn't to much to ask for at all.

  • @NarwhalsArePimps Really? Sounds like a LOT

  • I have ukelele class and he is gonna teach us how to do ukelele in october.

  • whereabouts?

  • Huh?

  • I like him :D

    And i love the music

  • That was great. I am very impressed. I used to play Ukulele and his makes me want to take it up again. Thanks!

  • love it!

  • Wait until 4 minutes.

  • A majority of Uke's I see for sale are upwards of 4000-5000. 2250 isnt bad really. Not reasonable but they sell.

  • are they made of gold? you could easily get one for 30$ if you wanted

  • those ones are supposed to be really bad: for the first week or so you have to re-tune them after each song.

  • ukes go out of tune fast because they have nylon strings. They sound best with stretchy strings like aquilas.

I have found that aquilas take about 2 weeks to bed in. This is a characteristic of the strings.

James Hill and Jake both use d'Addario J71 pro Arte strings. I believe they are a bit more stable, so better suited for performance.

    I don't use cheap ukes. :)

  • James uses Hilo strings.

  • those are cheap ones, decent ones are about 150$

  • @facelesspride Not one that isn't gonna sound like a castrato being strangled.

  • this is awesome!

  • He went to my elemantry school

  • Very, very nice!

  • He owns everything about that ukelele.

  • Man this guy really is freaky good technical player.... but still...

asking a starting price of $2250.00!!!!!!! for a signature ukulele/braghuina?? Guess fame rises, like vapor, really quickly, to your head...

  • i got my uk for like 25 lmao

  • yeah, i tried making one out of a gourd. still a work in progress, so I bought an oscar schmidt to pass the time.

  • actually, that uke that hes playing costs...about as much as a minivan

and he isnt full of himself at all, he lives near me so i know him personnally

  • Well I hope you or james don't feel offended. I wasn't referencing his personality (cause he looks like a regular nice enough guy) but the audacity of asking so much for a ukulele.... a ukulele ?! : P

  • Comment removed

  • It because the ukulele is worth a lot of money. I play, I've met James. His signature uke is DEF. worth that much.

  • ok, but you are aware that I mean his signature model on his website, brand new out of the factory? Not the model he plays with, but a completely different ookoolehleh with only his name on it.

I'm not trying to bash,... I'm saying WTF?:!

  • this is a real musician! pure talent and awesome control

  • One Note Samba (Samba de Uma Nota Só) is a great song composed by Brazilian musicians Newton Mendonça and Antonio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobim).

James Hill performed it here wonderfully.

  • This guy is amazing ,

And he went to my school today \o/

  • Who would ever think of the uke as a percussion instrument?Well Roy Smeck was doing it in the 1930's...

  • @guyjinda That's what she said...

  • i like the percusion part :) it's cool wish i could do that

  • amazing....

wish i could do that been practicing for a few hours now...
