  • Back for the 44th time and never get tired of Michaels solo. Rip brother mike!!!!!!!!!

  • is that Duck Dunn on bass???????

  • @cabe277 nope, it's neil jason :)

  • booger sugar

  • at 7:10 michael brecker also tries to play guitar (at his sax) :D

  • i love dat 80s sound.

  • I want to throw that stupid envelope filter into the ocean! Killer Selmer sound drowned behind tech.

  • @EdCannata You gotta be a kid..be cause we were all doing the same thing back then with delay..wah-wah..Mutron2-3....Mike was the leader!!...don't use it if you can't dig it..!

  • that groove is beyond amazing, only Michael was worthy to play on that...my gosh

  • damn this is retro. but also so futuristic from a musical standpoint... you are missed mike!

  • trompet Lawlz

  • Randy Brecker plays the trumpet, not the trompet.

  • @SuperSaxyBeast This was on Dutch TV In the Netherlands it's called a trompet.

  • I just got the title "Monkey see, Monkey do." haha

  • hUGS

  • RIP Michael Brecker!!!!!!!!

  • thats why bass players rock!!

  • @sesspleftocore The amount of stamina you need to play through this song (let alone an ENTIRE show) with this amount of energy is truly something special.

  • @Bowser28

Michael practiced for hours and hours, so he was used playing for long periods of time.

  • I Saw them that same year @ Notre Dame - THEY WERE AWESOME!!!!!

  • Brecker was one funky mofo. The best of our time

  • Michael was born to play sax. This is his greatest funk song. Straphangin' comes in at a close second.

  • That groove just hits you at 2:20

  • Definately dig breckers old sound. Dukoff, contact pick up and wah, stevie nicks style synheisser mic. What a sound. Brecker was definately one of the best who ever touched a tenor, and the band in this period was, and still is one of my very top favorites of all time. Bass player really drove the sound. Don`t know if Jaco P. would`ve done better. But check out part 2 !

  • every single one of those musicians...just wow

  • lol i love the bass player's suspenders

  • @xSpartanSavior yeah lol he kinda looks like a lumberjack

  • Go listen part 2... simply amazing...!!!

  • Real Good!!!

  • Excellent.

  • Neil Jason, Will Lee: The best bass players have two first names!

  • I think you can add Marcus Miller...

  • Yes, one of my favorite song on "Heavy Metal BeBop", respect to the Brecker Bros !!!

  • They must be "high"... Still playing they ass off, yeah !!!

    I love the 80s.

  • You got that right....too bad there's no video of michael with a big Stetson hat, like at Pall's Mall in Boston...Powdered donuts for all!

  • Bassist is Neil Jason. guitarist is Barry Finnerty

  • Who's the bassist? And the guitarist?

  • Barry Finnerty's solo is smokin' -- Funk in A !!

  • this bass has some serious punch

  • I wonder what Mike said to the bass player at 6:16 -- he straightened up real quick!

  • look like he said 'what was that' lol brecker always had something to say to neil jason, but alot of mutual respect i feel.

  • Wow! Brecker fans: don't miss out on "Part 2" of this - I thought it might just be the rest of the band soloing, but it's basically just an INSANE Brecker cadenza for almost 9 minutes

  • why is trumpet spelled trompet on the first screen?

  • Cause thise was aired in The Netherlands

  • Haha this further supports the notion that the bass player does and wears what he wants... it also helps when they're sick as hell too!

  • Hell yea that bass player can get down

  • Oh my god, he gots so much style. :P

  • He looks like a funk loving farmer.

  • He somehow reminds me of super mario.

Imagine: super mario gets a bass out of such a question mark and the he looks like this. XD

  • HAHAHA

Let us, hereby, dub Neil Jason, Super Mario :)

  • @GalacticWolf or train engineer

  • @GalacticWolf lol...so true!! now all they would need is some hay and a pig and cow on stage to make the scene complete!! lol

  • @GalacticWolf Yep! LOL That's Neil Jason. Played on numerous famous musician's records and even on some famous songs, and is STILL at it these days. :)

  • where is north sea jazz festival? becuase the the spelling is different in the intro in the instruments column. lol

    brecker bros are the best!

  • den haag netherlands

  • Michael has the best tenor sax sound i think i will ever hear

  • Couldn't agree more...

  • Anyone know how that thing attached to his sax neck works? Is it just a pickup of some kind or what?

  • i was just wondering the same thing

  • i think it picks up the sound and when he turns on that talk box thingy it picks up the sound and makes synthy like what he did in the begining were it had a wah wah sound

  • mike and david sanborn both experimented with distorting sax tone

  • That's an old school sax pick-up. It required a hole drilled into the neck and the signal was sent to a pre-amp, then routed to the signal processors of his choice. Sounds like a harmonizer, plus some kind of envelope filter device that gave him that wah effect. He also had a sampler/loop device that allowed him to create those repetitive bits to play over, I think that was made by MXR at the time, same as what Jaco Pastorius liked to use.....

  • Actually that is a Varitone neck. Varitone isn't around anymore but they were a branch off of Selmer I think. My father has three of them. Grandpa worked at the Selmer plant in Indiana for something like thirty years. After a while he started bringing home all sorts of awards and free stuff. These necks were most likely things that were given to him.

  • Funky stuff.

  • tite

  • Thanks a lot for uploading,bro!

  • If rock sounded like this, I wouldn't mind listening to that lol

  • These guys did play on a lot of rock sessions - Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Little Feat,....
