@EdCannata You gotta be a kid..be cause we were all doing the same thing back then with delay..wah-wah..Mutron2-3....Mike was the leader!!...don't use it if you can't dig it..!
@sesspleftocore The amount of stamina you need to play through this song (let alone an ENTIRE show) with this amount of energy is truly something special.
Definately dig breckers old sound. Dukoff, contact pick up and wah, stevie nicks style synheisser mic. What a sound. Brecker was definately one of the best who ever touched a tenor, and the band in this period was, and still is one of my very top favorites of all time. Bass player really drove the sound. Don`t know if Jaco P. would`ve done better. But check out part 2 !
Wow! Brecker fans: don't miss out on "Part 2" of this - I thought it might just be the rest of the band soloing, but it's basically just an INSANE Brecker cadenza for almost 9 minutes
@GalacticWolf Yep! LOL That's Neil Jason. Played on numerous famous musician's records and even on some famous songs, and is STILL at it these days. :)
i think it picks up the sound and when he turns on that talk box thingy it picks up the sound and makes synthy like what he did in the begining were it had a wah wah sound
That's an old school sax pick-up. It required a hole drilled into the neck and the signal was sent to a pre-amp, then routed to the signal processors of his choice. Sounds like a harmonizer, plus some kind of envelope filter device that gave him that wah effect. He also had a sampler/loop device that allowed him to create those repetitive bits to play over, I think that was made by MXR at the time, same as what Jaco Pastorius liked to use.....
Actually that is a Varitone neck. Varitone isn't around anymore but they were a branch off of Selmer I think. My father has three of them. Grandpa worked at the Selmer plant in Indiana for something like thirty years. After a while he started bringing home all sorts of awards and free stuff. These necks were most likely things that were given to him.

Michael was born to play sax. This is his greatest funk song. Straphangin' comes in at a close second.

Cause thise was aired in The Netherlands
