  • Is this live or lip sync from studio recording?

  • @PikPobedy Sounds just like the record. So probably lip-synching...?

  • @superduped I think the first clue is that the guitars do not have any amps attached.

  • This is great Check out the Pre CBS Fender Guitars.

  • Bruce reminding Cliff @ 1:52 - "One More Time"...

  • haha, sooo cute :)

  • Dance ? Looks more like group grope to me . ( :

  • @serpico56 yes, the one on the left (the left when you watch it)

  • @eddys73

Lol, It's Hank Marvin one of the greatest rock and roll guitarists ever. A guitarist whose style of playing has been copied over the years by many of my friends and relatives.

  • @Witiyana i love hank's guitar playing too.He is the best.

  • Never heard Cliffs version before-I'm really digging this.

  • Nice lip singing, song starts before he does my dad sounds alot him... Johnny Stark

  • Another act that couldn't BUY a gig after the Beatles came out.

  • @BeatleSongPlayer

You have to be joking, they just toured Australia as part of the 50th Anniversary, had hit singles for another 15 years and Album hits up to the present. What do you want? The Beatles were great but are gone, they also don't get any better by putting down other acts.

  • @BeatleSongPlayer You need to do some research, they are still going, have the occasional hit and for at least ten years AFTER this were one of the top bands around. Don't put them down, educate yourself instead.

  • @BeatleSongPlayer Here's a litle statistic for you:

According to British Hit Singles & Albums (19th edition), The Shadows are the third most successful UK charted hit-singles act, behind Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard.

  • what a silly way to barre your chords XD

  • @fieora

A guy called Hendrix used to barre his chords the same way....

  • Happy Birthday , Cliff Richard . Thanks a lot for the good times we've got from you .

  • muito boa a musica mais nao e eles que canta e o ritmo e mais leve ae ta muito rapido prefiro a original mais essa fiko ate legaal ne :D ?

  • I generally like Sir Cliff...but this is insipid.

  • c'était la classe ... THE SHADOWS and CLIFF ; les beatles et rollings stones étaient

bon, mais c'était pas la classe... on l'a ou on l'a pas...

  • cliff songs and videos are absolutely geat stuff!

  • This would be even better if their guitars were plugged in ;)

  • El pasito!! jajajajaj

  • I wonder if Hank took a lot from the fact that he looked like, Buddy Holly.

  • Nice! Tight as a vice and the instrumental dance at 0:46 is a lesson in authentic cool.

  • Here here namigw, you're so right. And i'm one of the younger(ish!) generation too! Great song

  • Cliffs Best ever track ( here mimed )aaaahh brings back memories of a holiday in Cornwall ......only decent track on the local Juke Box !!

  • Where is this?

  • no where near as good as the ramones version

  • @celticfanliam darling, the ramones wouldn't have a version if it wasn't for the original.

  • @celticfanliam

This and the Beach Boys version were what Joey listened to. I think he'd argue with you if he were still around.

  • a classic!

  • This is Classic! Cliff is fantastic!

  • Do u want to dance? 1962. KittenSmallCat.

  • Cliff and the Shadows forever!!!

  • Just got back from Mauritius. Well, The Rage Band were playing this song and I couldn't help myself but Rockin'n Rolling until I found myself singing and dancing on stage... with them

  • shame they are lip syncking. watch Brian on the drums. still magic though!!

  • GREAT!

  • Check out the Buddy Holly look-alike on the right...LOL

  • That's Hank Marvin!

  • Dude are you serious ? Look up Hank Marvin on Wiki.

  • @assaultu2 lol .. yeah thats the really unknown guy Hank Marvin ... except he is unbelievably famous.

  • Show some respect11.... this is the guy that clapton harrison mccartney etc . look up to

  • RAMONES

  • This was'nt bad but the pulsating piano, the sparse drums, the thumping upright, the twangy guitar solo, and oh yeah, those BONGOS! I prefer Bobby Freeman's original.

  • the original by bobby freeman is the best

  • cliff's version is my favourite.

  • who would not like this ?

  • How do they get there shoes to shine like that... Amazing.

  • They don't polish their shoes, there black patent not leather so they are shiny all the time.

  • SO COOL!

  • All these people saying this version is better or that one is better, is a stupid thing to say you have to put this back in it's time.

  • ramones version is 10 times better

  • love the ramones. but im afraid theres no way on gods planet they could play like the shadows .

  • I know! The Beach Boys version is better two

  • great to see this video, first time I`ve seen it,good to see Jet Harris in the line up,must have been recorded just before he left.what show did it come from?

  • is that really true? kool! how does she look objectively today? good shape?

    ...

  • semms to buddy holly..

  • I have a doubt: Was Cry For A Shadow a tribute or a parody?

I ask this because most of the press treat Cry For A Shadow as a parody.

However, I know The Beatles covered Move It at the end of the 60´s.

  • anybody who thinks the beatles were not influenced by the shadows is daft.

epstein took the beatles to see them .hows that not influencing them .

i love the beatles but as musicians they were not in the same league as the shadows.

as for cry for a shadow it was a tribute not an insult .

there was a curious epidemic started in the 60s namely 10.000 instrumental groups. . who didnt want to be TONY MEEHAN .

HANK MARVIN . BRUCE WELCH. OR JET HARRIS.

  • Good thing none of the guitar players bothered to finger sync the solos. You wouldn't want music to get on the way of such marvelous dance number. Two to the left, one to the right ...

  • Ahoy, Maties and Pirates, This old vid choreograph is way too pat (perfect).Google MdDS, do it now. J:)

  • It looks to me that from 0:46 to 1:11 all the great sounds of the sixties are squeezed into a few seconds. Amazing! Cliff and Hank are so great artists

  • i like to se the footstaps of bruce and hank.

and cliff following them i like it.

  • gorgeousssssssssssssssss

  • Oh my gawd Cliff ......Lip Sync !!

  • im sorry but i cant believe that because the instrumental john and george did cry for a shadow was a piss take of the shadows

  • the beatles were crap. us mancunians hates scousers anyway, so anyone is betta than them

  • they were not an influence on the beatles at all

  • cliff was betta

  • George Harisson once sited that without The Shadows there were no Beatles.

John Lennon was quoted that Move It by Cliff was a mayor influence to him.

  • Ramones! eheh....

  • He is a joke

  • Superbe morceau devenu un grand classique.

    Inoubliable Cliff and his Shadows.

  • I'm not a great of fan of Cliff (preferred Billy Fury), but my mum has been a great fan since her teenage years (gonna email this to her) and this is such a happy clappy song....Hank & the boys were brilliant

  • Major influence on The Beatles,

together with The Everlys and Elvis ofcourse.

  • Give me my shiny shoes. IM GOING ON TOUR FOR LIFE.

  • cliff was so hot when he was this age!

  • класс!и песня отличная!!!

  • I love cliff and hankin marvin XD

  • Cuuuuute dance!!cute cute cute!!!!what a pitty that this time has gone!!!

  • holy fucking shit u dont no who ramones are?!!?!?1 search their the creaturs of sound of punk rock joey ramone the lead singer is ounk godfather! their legends go quickly and search their music !

  • Cool to see Sir Cliff in an early clip. I heard him a little in the 70's and more in the 80's, so it is neat to see him even younger! He is so hip!

  • Who are the Ramones?????

  • a punk band form usa!

  • RAMONES COVER OWNS

  • Am I missing something? No mic, no guitar chords, drummer not playing the same thing as the drums in the song ... hmmm ...

  • My favorite is the Bobby Freeman original made in the 50's. Check it out on Youtube. Type Bobby Freeman Do you wanna dance. No actual film of Freeman though, just animation. Still the best.

  • did he miss his cue?

  • Rockin!

  • sorry kid the ramones rock yes indeed but this is fuckin wild and historic

  • I'll take the Ramones cover over this, thank you.

  • THANKS

  • square...but it's good vintage rock

  • This dates between Sept 1961 when Tony Meehan left and April 1962 when Jet Harris left.Footage of this line up of Marvin Welch Harris Bennett is quite unusual.

  • @simonlilley Looking at the video, it gives a clue as to maybe why they left. ------ Three 'stars; at the front & two 'nobodys' at the back! ------ Just like Status Quo! Not very nice!

  • Its the Rudi carellshow and the show was Live on Tv I have seen that too

  • Popular music was so great back then, not like the crap they try to shove down people's throats today.

  • @namigw I like how you made the distinction between 'popular music' and music in general. Popular music really was much better, as it should be, Rock and Roll was relatively fresh and exciting. Most commenters on youtube fail to make this important distinction and generalize modern music as being generally terrible. It really isn't, you just have to look for the new bands that are actually great because mainstream radio sure isn't going to play them.

  • Someting interesting... it was used the alternate track of Do You Wanna Dance.

(In the mid of the solo guitar the band say a little phrase)

  • Yes, it comes from 1962 because Jet Harris left the band only a few months behind Tony Meehan at the begining of 1962.

  • maybe shown in 1963 but thats jet harris on bass so probably recorded in 1962 just before jet left. Amazing clip though, its just fantasic for all us cliff and shadows fans that people have all this footage as so little remains... espechally the early stuff... on film, and little is released on video/dvd. Thanks for the posting

  • great -they all look so incredibly young !

  • where is this recorded? great clip!!!!!!!!
