dude how was that a good demonstration? i mean yes u lit the fire but bad technique when lighting.....that way u would have your tinder everywhere all over the floor if it was anything else except from twine you had....
nive vid i orderd a light my fire 4 days ago i have alot of tinder in my yard so im coverd try usein cotton balls satarated in vasilne it'll light for about 2 mins
NOOOO DONT WATCH MAN VS. WILD! DONT EVER JUMP OFF A CLIFF IN A SURVIVAL SITUATION!!!! so not the right person to take advice from! ray mears or les stroud would be better
I have to both concur and disagree. My advice to anyone watching Man vs. Wild is to utilize common sense. Survivorman is much much better but it doesn't mean you can't learn something useful from Bear. The man does know his stuff, Discovery probably just wanted him to film a more entertainment based show since they already had Survivorman showing the harsh realities of the extreme environments. Personally I would love to see Bear appear on Special Ops Mission, that would be amazing.
the blastmatch sucks! its way to bulky and u end up pushing all ur tinder around with it. because its too bulky in the hand... the light my fire army firesteel is soo much better its cheaper and less bulky.
most excellent. be great to see a video where you're starting a fire in the rain and wind. i've seen several vids on fire starting using different methods but all under dry windless conditions. or what to do if you're stuck in the wilderness, pouring rain and no dry tinder. great vid, thanks
Thank you, yeah since i learned that trick i taped two film canasters together filled the bottem one before i taped them, then filled the top. Works great and you always have one sealed up for "just incase" but yeah there a must in ur pack! Even start wet wood with um!
Man vs Wild is just entertainment. If you follow some of Bear Grylls advice it'll get you killed, and chances are it'll be a slow death. Such as not being able to walk to safety after you climb up a slick wet waterfall and break your leg. Or bash your head open after jumping into a unknown depth of water. For real tips, watch Ray Mears, Ron Hood, Les Stroud, or other REAL survival EXPERTS.
I couldn't agree more... that Bear Grylls guy is just not a source for reasonable survival skills. I guess he's some kind of hardcore risk junkie and I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to get himself killed or seriously injured sometime soon.
Ray Mears on the other hand seems actually concerned about safety and much more reasonable. He really has a huge amount of knowledge and if I could I would love to learn as much as possible directly from him in person. As you said, a real expert.
All this cloth lint, maya sticks, cotton balls,nitrogel... tinder whatever is good for the backyard and to show it to your friends.
But it´s better to know what tinder to use from nature if you are in a survival situation it can save your live ,if you don´t have cotton balls with vaseline or mayasticks with you.
i know the best possible tinder. i light it in one try with my fire steel. go to the clothes dryer in your house and take all the lint off the filter. works like a charm.
Thank you for teaching me that a fire is easly set with jute and a fire steel.

Although you got it to lite, you were doing it wrong. you're supposed to pull the flint back and hole the steel in place

Try to pull the fire steel AWAY from the tinder bundle... That will reduce the odds of your tinder bundle getting all fucked up.

chap stick is also very effective on cotton balls or cloth.

@PANWO762 I carry about a dozen of those in my kit, they're fantastic, light with one strike of my fire steel

Try and pull the stick back PAST the steel.. that way you won't be smashing your tinder.

survivorman is better because he stays at the places longer and makes little camps other than man vs wild just keeps moving

not to mention les actually shows you what you can do in different situations and he films all of it by himself.
