I love this song so much. I'm probably one of the few 38-year-olds who has a deep appreciate for this type of music! Nothing today comes close to being is good as this!
Jimmy Clanton is on Facebook and actually posts comments and interacts with all of us..He is amazing..One in a million both professionally and spiritually ..
It's the very finely done instrumental background and bridges that still give this song its staying power. Great sound. Alas, Jimmy can barely carry a tune, if he can at all.
@coyotesong It was a great song and Jimmy has a very interesting voice , a little reedy , but it works very well for the songs that he is famous for ! A lot of the singers from this era don't have great ranges but the studio's all worked around that with material written just for them ! Hey Coyote , how many million sellers are you affiliated with ? Steve the Singer
@steven When you say A lot of the singers from this era don't have great ranges, isn't that much to say that they're not really very good singers in the first place?. When you compare white 'stars' like Jimmy Clanton, Frankie Avalon, Fabian (god save us), whoever else (except Bobby Rydell who had real talent) to say, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and other Motown artists where I played a minor role, I don't think there's any comparison in real talent and singing ability.
@coyotesong I agree , the black talent was always better , all I was saying is Jimmy has a rare quality to his voice and did you know that he wrote the song Just a Dream when he was only 17 ? The list of white singers were bad , but Fabian "please" what a no talent he was ! Good white singers from the era were , Rydell , Darin , Newton , Presley , Twitty , Orbison , DiMucci , Black , and some more , I can't remember them all now , I'm getting too old ! Do you agree with me on these ? Steve
hi lanny...i remember sometime around 1969/70/71, jimmy was working for a radio station in Columbia, Lancaster County, PA...he had his own radio show..morning drive...and he played all the hits from when he was on the charts and told stories about his days on the road...the other stars...etc....i was surprised he would work a local statio (a small one at that), but I guess it was what was available then...plus I believe he was doing some are nightclub work...
@jekiwe Thanks for the info...I suppose it is a little surprising that Jimmy would opt to do that kind of work, but I think all of us overestimate how well off financially some of these artists are, especially those who recorded in the 50's and early 60's...Lanny
Now THIS IS THE ORIGINAL!!! :-) One of my many favorites of that era. Good post/upload. Thanks.
