In July 2008, the ATSC standards were amended to incorporate H.264/MPEG-4 AVC compression and 1080p at 50, 59.94 and 60 frames per second (1080p50 and 1080p60). Such frame rates require H.264/AVC High Profile Level 4.2, while standard HDTV frame rates only require Level 4.
1080P means progressive mode which is 24 frames per second not 60 frames per second. in Cinema 24P which are slightly altered from 29.97 NTSC gives us that captured frame look.
1080p doesn't say anything about the framerate. Progressive scan just means the way each individual frame is constructed, not the rate. It can be any framerate you want although 24p and 30p are two standards. 30fps is a standard in consumer and television video and 24p is standard film framerate, which means 24fps looks more like film.
as usual with sony camcorders, awesome low light performance thanks to the back lighted sensor, but poor performance in high contrast scenes, pay attention to the highlights, like the boy shirt or the house paint, completely washed out, this is unacceptable for a camcorder in this price range

Thanks for this. Only recommendations I would have is instead of scoring this vid, allow viewers to hear how good/bad the mic is.

It records in 1080P HD right? What type of file format does it record in? And how great is the battery life?

@justl1keraven
I think it only does 1080i.
It's 1920x1080 but I'm not sure if it's 1080P. You can see the specs on BHPhoto.com

@DevilsCuz This specific handycam can do 1080/60p, so yes. Unless the specs on Sony's website are wrong.

@GamingPrower it says 1080i on the website

I would reccomend NP-FV100 (google it for shopping) it is the longest lasting battery out there for this camera.
