  • Someone please get this version digitalized and cleaned up. This is a priceless classic!

  • Far and away the best version of this song. The Sheids version is the one you hear but this one is far superior. Classic and pure DooWop at its best!

  • I just worked with the Original Group for the PBS Rock & roll show in December. They were AWESOME and sound the same! Amazing.

  • Takes too long to get started.

  • Would love to have someone put up "Baby" by the Slades. One of my favorite songs from the period.

  • great song domino records of austin tex. the slades had quite a few songs in their short career, there was an answer song "i cheated "by joyce harris cd the slades, and another cd the domino record story has all songs on this label

  • We all have our favorite versions, mine happens to be the original , which is this one. In my opinion, Don Burch of The Slades, also the author of "You Cheated" , has a better sounding voice than Frankie Ervin of The Shields, but that's just my opinion. Being a vocalist myself, I know "It" , when I hear "It".

Different kind of video, but I like it. Thanks for posting it up. Great song, great group!

  • This song was the first 45 I ever had and enjoyed hearing it again (scratches just like my player)

  • the guy who sings this is my grandpa!!! i swear to god!!!

  • is he still alive??

  • yeppers....turns 71 this year

  • a new record called You Cheated, by a local white group called the Slades; it was beginning to break out. However, Domino Records wouldn't make a good deal with Shapiro, and now he was asking Motola to cover the song. His finder's fee for the deal was 5,000 free records. He sent a copy to Motola, who decided to go ahead with the deal. He wanted Jesse Belvin to do the song, but Jesse was under contract to RCA, and couldn't have his name associated with another label. Google Marv Goldberg....

  • I'd like to see "the Rest of the Story" , posted Here on-YouTube ... You seem to be a Very Knowledgeable (spelling???) Person , who sticks to the Facts.

  • This was my favorite song to dance to at dances which followed our Friday football games in high school (1958)---I'm an old dude!

  • VERY nice, but the shields made it their song.

  • I like this and all the versions, I just favor Jim Knight & the Bluenotes version the most. Just my 2 cents.

  • My friend Jimmie Davis, not Williams, was in the Slades. Jimmie is a great singer/guitarist I enjoyed playing with in our band "Cookin."

  • The Slades were, Don Burch-lead, Tommy Kasper, Jimmy Williams, and Jimmy Goeke. They are from Austin, Texas. They met at McCallum High School in Austin back in 1957. I have the a copy of the original record. Like you I like the original version better. "An oldie, oldie lover till I die".

  • My name is Lisa Morgan --Don the lead singer is my 1st cousin. Buster Morgan was my dad. Just wonderin who you are rocket morgan? And do you know how to find the original video they did on television.

  • hi,my name is morgan and i only like old rock.therfore i have this name

    morgan

  • Hi Lisa, I stumbled onto this today on youtube and saw your name. I hope your doing well. Love ya. btw, I had done some research before to try and find the original airing of the Slades on American Bandstand but unfortunately a large number of those early AB recordings burned when its first location had a huge fire. I would pay alot to see it. Take Care, Ron

  • It is easy to tell that the Slades was the original and that the Shields was a cover version just by listening to both versions.

  • Even though the shields had the bigger hit on a national scale, but my heart will always belong to the slades. The original lead singer of the slades is Don Burch and he wrote "you cheated", he put so much feeling to the song. I was happy that he received royalties when the second group the Shields had the national hit. Regards: Henry Pope

  • Funny thing, the reasons THEORIGINALMOJOMAN

gave for this version of 'You Cheated', not

going over asd well as the other, happen to

be the reasons I like this song. I know I

have peculiar musical taste! psy ch o we ird

  • This one is a heartbreaker, but I love it. Thanks.

  • BACKGROUND VOCALS "TOO" LOUD that MADE THE DIFFERENCE. plus THE LEAD IS TO "HIGH" PITCHED. MANY MOONS IN RADIO,,I PLAYED BOTH PLUS I TOOK THE PHONE CALLS. "THE SHIELDS" VERSION always GOT MORE POSITIVE CALLS. themojoman(.)com

  • The Shields is more widely known and I have to admit I really liked it but this has more feeling to it. Has a more unplugged feeling to it. Besides its beautiful to hear different version of a song its like tasting a food by a different person different flavors i love it.

  • first time i heard this version it's good who had the bigger hit?

  • The Original and THE DEFINITIVE version!
