What a great and simple swing. His motion is so fluid and elegant, no signs of physical struggle or deliberate power being exerted. No wonder he won 11 events in one year. The simplicity of his swing reminds me of what Ernest Jones taught and what his book still teaches today if you can find it. Not too many of today's golfers swing with ease and elegance. If you are looking to emulate good "true swing" technique, look at Tom Watson. This gentleman is now in his 60's, and plays wonderful golf.

Never been crazy about the dip, but if you look at him halfway into the downswing, he looks a helluva lot like Faldo (6'2" and 6'3"), with the shallowing and planing of the club. He's never gotten enough credit for playing at as high a level as--arguably a higher level than--any player in history, Hogan included. More than a few who saw both play say Nelson was at least as good in terms of the ball's behavior. Some say better, esp. in that mid-'40s stretch.

A true christian gentleman who just happened to be a golfer of incredible skill. he was universally liked by fellow pros during and after his career. proof you don't have to be a jerk to be the best. RIP brother byron.
