Hey, I'm looking at buying a 2003-2005 LR Discovery, but I was wondering about the reliability issues, if they have any. My brother-in-law had one and it was always having trouble with these like overheating. Was that just a fluke vehicle, or is it common for these things?
The LR3's are a completely different vehicle to the older Disco's, they rely heavily on traction control, Hill
Descent Control and Terrain Response electronics, which makes them extremely capable off road without aggressive tyres....
To say LR3's are better or worse is a matter of opinion, and your intended use for the vehicle. I run an old one because theyre cheap and easy to work on/customise at home, and no electronic wizardry to go wrong!!
@Matty7twin ....they are BFG mud terrain KM's...with about 15mm of tread!!!...i wasnt spinning em up fast enough to clean em out.....Land Rover halfshafts + 35" tyres= Breakages if your not careful!
@tudorino66 ....yeah, they are light, nimble, awesome off road, cheap n simple to maintain......until it comes to pulling something heavy out of a hole, then towing a 2 tonne caravan home from every event, and pulling a 3.5 tonne trailer, and seating 5 adults in comfort, and being used as a HGV towtruck, and carrying emergency Doctors/midwifes/district nurses to calls in bad weather....etc.etc.etc.... I think I will stick with what I've got, a Suzuki wouldn't be much use to me I'm afraid
@tudorino66 ...Have you some sort of inferiority complex? Suzuki SJ's and Vitara's etc are great little off roaders...they just don't tick all my boxes for what I want from my vehicle. I really don't know why you are even comparing the two vehicles, they completely different, apart from 4 wheel drive. As for "Better than Indian rubbish so shut up".....grow up....really.
@RovingLandRover jeeps are shit its allways a landrover pulling you fuckers out of trouble, how many jeeps do you see in 4x4 competitions none cause there shit.its not a true 4x4 there just a wanabee 4x4 basically they are there for woman to drive to pick the kids up from school.
Judging by your video LS1XJ, you should have bought a rover. Discovery series 1s can be had for under $3,500. Both Jeep Cherokee and Rovers were close or near $30,000 when new but that was over 10 years ago. Now they both can be had for around the same price, in fact the rover blue books less.
@LS!XJ You do realize Disco ones are from 1995 to 1998, they can be bought for under $3500. I bought mine for $2500. Jeeps are nice vehicles and can be had for the same amount. It all boils down to preference. Your videos looks like you're having fun and this guy is certainly having fun, that's all that matters.
@RovingLandRover look i dont care who in your family is the whore and while you may not be a "nigger" you stupid comments suggest otherwise. i never doubted the ability of the land rover i just have said that they are overpriced for what they can do. i have not yet seen a land rover do anything a jeep hasnt.
@LS1XJ ....Is it a jealousy thing??? Inferiority complex perhaps??? For all your arguments and off topic comments, and annoying childish 'Anything is better than yours' attitude...and this is all you can come up with....a stalled 4x4 in 2 ft of waterlogged road, We were expecting to see something a little more spectacular......
@RovingLandRover first off i am not your sister so dont talk to me like that. second you knuckle dragging ape, i have videos posted on youtube so get your head out of your ass.
Land Rovers are good off roaders but in truth they are some of the most unreliable vehicles. You'd be better off with a Toyota Land Cruiser or something.
everytime i did mess up, its cos i was in bonnet deep water with no snorkle...put the snorkle on and still have no problems with a 182k on the clock......and i hate it when a mechanic calls it a toyota or says "i think toyota makes those" no you idiot, sheesh
Hello sku70! Very nice video... The closest thing to off road for me is drive to ski resorts and an annual Whistler family trip.. That aside I am also no clue noob when it comes too off road. I love the new LR 4 and want to get your opinion on the off road capabilities with all those Terrain Response stuff compared to maybe locking differentials. Also heard that body on frame is better, just for curiosity what is LR4? Thanks so much and once again nice video :)
@ktkl68 LR4 is a completely different vehicle to mine....virtually not comparable! Terrain response and complex eletronic traction aids are brilliant, and would probably be ideal for your family ski trips to Whistler. On wet grass or compact snow the electronics kick in and make light work of it. The older vehicle suits me, cheap, easy to maintain and DIY repairable. Body on frame is better if you intend taking it to bits, LR4 is monocoque construction, with indepenent air suspension
@LS1XJ Lets see some vids then...it will be good to see a stock XJ (Marketed as Cherokee here) go thru 3 foot deep slippery clay. We see very few Jeeps off road here, most of em are well modified tho.
@sku70 shit i paid 3500 for my disco and i looked up the lifts no where near 30 grand. and my jeep sucked it was a renegade my stock rover does better.
@LS1XJ heres the differance... does your jeep have leather seats with ass warmers, 2 sunroofs, rear entertainment system, 7.1 channel surround sound harmon and kardon sreakers, power steering, power windows, power mirrors. etc etc... and thats the differance. btw the only moods this appears to have is a small lift and fat tires.
@davidmkay you are correct, my jeep does not have leather seats, entertainment system, and surround sound. you see i left all that stuff at home. what my jeep has is as good off road abilities as this land rover with a much smaller price tag. if i wanted all the extra stuff i could have it and still have spent half the money. that and it is my humble opinion that if my jeep were outfitted as this land rover is, it would outperform it in every way.
@davidmkay lmao ur right only thing jeeps do is having doors easily removed.....i much rather be in my disco in the winter or the summer or in a mud hole lol
@wildpratt you are a retard. i have a jeep moron. oh and by the way lots of "jap shit" would stomp that over priced boat anchor into the ground. you dont have to look to hard on youtube to find lots of videos of toyotas and nissans wheeling.
iv just bought a disco wish i had got one years ago wonder if thats u who went up the hill in a deffender 90 in front of my house in farnley butter bowl sides sweet vid and disco two does it cost to join the club at the 4x4 park
wow iv just bought a discovery 300 tdi i live in farnley didnt even know there was a 4x4 club in tong how much does it cost to use the course and join the club
Erm...it's a Disco 1.....About 3.5" lift, Pro-drive progressive springs and Pro-Comp ES9000+4" Shockers, Cranked + castor corrected HD front arms, and cranked, reinforced and lengthened HD arms rear. Custom A-Frame.
Your Xterra will do good off road, A Disco might have the edge when the going gets very tough, but only just, a lot of it depends on driving ability too!!
I dont offroad nearly as much as I did when first bought. the X does well as for a stocky but you are absolutely correct with the talent of the driver makes a huge difference.
