How come 51-L didnt have the same definition of video during the 1:00-1:113 phase of the flight? It might have helped to determine if the crew cabin had been damaged to the point of decompression

I think thats why theres only a finite amount of footage from the accident. I'm not even sure if they had Pad Perimeter shots like this one had during launch (all the others did). Only high speed photography and stills were available for 51L...
Mike Mullane's book, "Riding Rockets" spends some time detailing what was going on during the shut down. I highly recommend the book, it's a great read, and gives you insight into things NASA doesn't talk about.
God bless Steve Nesbit. He had the difficult job of breaking news to the world that Challenger had exploded just moments after it happened. He handled it very calmly and professionally.

@mittensisfat For some reason only on this singular launch the engine sounds were supressed by the telecast. Why I don't know.
