@raccoonpoet I agree completely--you definitely want to do this in a well ventilated area and/or with a ventilation mask on. I normally wear one but could not do so for purposes of being heard in the video :) Also, if care is take to simply warm/soften the plastic rather than melt (i.e.: catch on fire/blacken), the fumes are significantly reduced.
Love this.... I have an organization bringing awareness to child abuse. I'm so off to go and search for blue spoons. Great little fundraiser project I can do! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
This is the neatest thing since sliced bread! Too bad it's a bit toxic to breathe in, however. I will still try it, just hold my breath during the melting part. heh. :) I suppose you can stickle or glitter glue them to add sparkle??? Thanks so much! I think I shall show this to my 13yo daughter! :)
a friend of mine has chronic fatique syndrome, and it corresponds with something called "spoon theory" (google it i cant really explain it). ANYWAYS. this is going to make a great birthday gift for her! im so excited to make this! do you think it will work any better or worse with an embossing gun?
@keeriqt worse.. a lot... the candle is low heat... and you can better control the melt of the plastic... if you use too high a heat and make the plastic too fluid your going to end up with uncontrollable HOT plastic that if it sticks to your skin, will not come off until it's cool. been there... done it and have the scar to prove it hurts!
@atz808 I buy them in those colors at a party supply store. You can do a few things: purchase on the internet, make the flowers with white spoons and then paint them, or just make white flowers. I have a lot of the ones i made with white spoons and they're beautiful!
@sharonril1 Thanks for your comment! yes, i've made tons of flowers (daisies, tulips, sunflowers, foxglove, etc). I've even made full potted spoon leaf plants with them! :)
@slynnDD I've never had any trouble with the fumes. As long as you don't scorch the plastic and you do it in a well ventilated area, its not too much of an issue.
Hi! You are so creative!!! I couldn't believe that it is possible to make this lovely flower from plastic spoon. Just amazing! Thank you very much for well done tutorial!
my father makes roses and iris out of different sized pet bottles he heard me mention the spoon rose and asked me to forward it to him hopefully we will be seeing his latest creations
@libertybelle1000 that's great! if you do a google search, there are a handful of people out there who make them but I was always surprised they weren't more popular. Given the response to my video, I'll most likely be posting videos some more techniques/flowers (daffodils, foxglove, etc) as soon as I get the time to make them. Let me know how his turns out!
@libertybelle1000 Absolutely! This video is just kind of a starting off point. I've used the technique to make tons of different kinds of flowers. I have a white daisy in the bud vase of my Beetle and I used a rolled yellow spoon handle for the center instead of the bead.
@libertybelle1000 Over on pinterest I saw that idea. Their flowers were done using 3 different sized spoons, ten large ones, 5 medium ones, and 2 small spoons for the center bud.
It went pretty well, I burnt one of the spoons and it smelled horrible so I had to walk away fro a little while but in the end it looked really cool. Though, I think it would have looked better using colored spoons (I was using clear spoons.)
I am concerned about the gases that are given off during the heating process; otherwise, this is very nice.

instead of a bead couldnt you roll one of the plastic spoons to make the bud in the center.
