  • i kinda feels on him im male first dude makes wanna kiss him

  • this guy needs to shut up

  • WHAT IS THIS LOL.

  • Maybe I'm not understanding it right, but to me, it doesn't sound like he's looking for Asia America, but just Asia instead? To me, Asia America is more about the mixture of cultures, not having one dominating the other.

  • this so so amazing, i was speechless at the end.

  • This dude is incredible! He's got some passion whew!

  • @Nightangelx99 hey i cant find it.. help.lol

  • Its a shame that people try to label other people just because they chose to live differently. We really need to stop labeling each other. I mean seriously, what are we humans or tupperware? All of this white washed, black washed, white pride black pride, Asian pride crap is just an outlet for peoples racial insecurity. Keep practicing your traditions and culture, but no one has the right to judge other people.

  • i love him ! :]

  • i saw this at school

  • goosebumps. powerful

  • Wow. Very powerful.

  • i like how in the beginning, if you listen closely, people are laughing after he says "asia america where have you gone"....but then he goes into some real deep shit and i bet those same people got completely blindsided and silenced

  • "Blood has no nationality"

  • i saw this in my asian-american studies class

  • i really dont think it's fair to call anyone black or white washed. im black & people tell me i act white all the time. when it's from people of another race it's easier to brush off. but when another black person tells me that, i feel ashamed, like i need to act like a stereotypical black girl just to be accepted by my own people.

  • "how i always feel that i am the prodigal son who has forgotten the meaning of the word ancestry, who's losing more words of his first language daily."

  • brought me to tears.

    thankyou.

  • damn.. that brotha is deep!

  • Beautiful!!

  • 1:09 HA HA NICE

1:21 - 1:33 finally someone else gets it, i thought i was the only one who saw that the oriental people are being degraded down to 'me love you long time' and all that shit. but then again there letting it happen

ah hell what do i know about asian people im jamaican

  • Comment removed

  • wow gave me goose bumps fromthe beginning to the end!

  • This is the kind of stuff that got me interested in slam poetry.

  • this hits me in the heart man deep

  • rubiks cube identity-sick line

  • Wow. I'm glad I found this :)

  • so powerful. :)

  • i finally got some goosebumps this winter not because of the cold =]

  • Damn...I'm not even Asian and that was inspiring...

  • I love how this brother expresses himself, incredibly introspective and relevant to the journey of finding knowledge of true self and identity.

  • he looked like he was popping lmao

  • man, kinda makes me feel guilty for being so white washed.

  • You should; everytime I see a white-washed asian I feel so embarassed.

  • listen brotha, being white washed isn't all that bad. it just means we're extremely good at adapting to whatever environment we're placed in. just because i am white washed doesn't mean i should be embarrassed. I live in canada so i adapt to canadian society but i'll rep asian pride till i die

  • i feel embarrassed every time i run into a black-washed asian.. and they call me N. lol we are both asian wtf??

  • what makes you white wash? please im intriqued to know

  • @FinalDestroy it's what happens when you feel embarrassed by elements of your own culture. You lose the language, the traditions, the stories, the sensibility...you forgo all of it so that you can fit in and just be like any other white person. that's what being white washed is.

  • but i hear this a lot from the Asians at my school.....they consider me and another Asian this so called "white wash"......but we both know our language pretty damn well, we know our history background, we aren't ashamed of our ethnicity yet we are considered "white washed" because the majority of our friends are white. I find myself pretty damn Hmong. Explain me that.

  • @FinalDestroy That's pretty easy to explain. The other asians at your school are racist hypocrites. I wouldn't worry about them too much :) Stay true to who you are and where you come from, but that doesn't mean to become ethnocentric. Be friends with good people that you get along with and that's all that matters.

  • oh no hahaha i don't worry about them at all, it was just something that is in the back of my head that i wouldn't mind knowing thats all

  • @Plumira I'm half, and and when I see an asian face that is whiter than I am I feel embarrassed too. They embarrass themselves because they didn't care enough about their own ancestors, their own culture, history, language to keep any of it close to them.

  • Brilliant.

  • the part about losing the words of his first language is so unbeleivably resonate to this new generation whose parents and grandparents came to America.

    dope.

  • alvin lau has a new fan... wow

  • I second that.

  • Damn. That was deep.

  • wow.. i was expecting a message that was pretty cliche but somehow he brought chills down my spine

  • Holy shit, that was inspiring... That was absolutely amazing... And I feel ashamed of myself... I am that DDR struttin', Honda Civic drivin' shell of a second gen Korean slowly losing my first language... That was one hell of a wakeup call. Thank you.

  • powerful.

  • This has nothing to do with being a liberal. It's a personal story of self-identity.

  • This poem always makes me realize that I dread the day in the distant future where I lose Asia-America too.

  • Touching, moving oration about diaspora.

  • sorry i accidently put down while going to put an up xD

  • He talks about his identity as an Asian America. Alvin talks about living in an Asian family in this. Its hard to understand unless you have an old school Chinese family. That is what I feel he is talking about. The new school of living in America and at the same time being lost in the stereotypes of what being "Asian" is.

  • I still get chills whenever I see this. Argghhh....I want to write material as moving as his, but I'm not even sure where to begin....

  • just let it flow brotha

dont even think yo, just let it come

  • holy shit. that was sick.

  • "cuz in the coloring book of skin I need to draw outside these lines" !!! I love that line!! Whoaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • 2:12 - 2:17

does anyone know what he's saying in between there?

"Or my father, who could punch my stomach as swiftly as any time caught as a ...?"

  • its "..any time CARD as a lesson in work ethics"

  • @M1i2K3E4

Or my father who could punch my stomach as swiftly as any time card as he left in work ethic...

    Maybe. That's what I'm getting.

  • wow hes cazy

  • i wish I could find it too, *Osaka Japan all day*

  • ANYONE HAVE HIS POEMS WRITTEN DOWN?

doing a project analysis and i need his "lyrics" for his poems... or else ill have to write down all of it. -.- and someone as lazy as me probably couldnt survive

  • Amazing amazing. A thousand times amazing.

  • wow that was amazing

  • fucking insane

  • this guy is sick

  • whoa.

  • preach. I love his word usage, a true wordsmith. Bringing me into the corners of my mind to forgotten metaphors related to my childhood. preach

  • how relative this is for all Asian-American who grew up here.

  • So glad to hear poems that I can relate to.

Stuff like this is what encourages me to keep writing...Hopefully I can tap into my mental reservoir of words and attempt to make it half as poignant.

  • I swear this delivery is brilliant, I've watched this several times, and everytime it brings me to tears.

I often wonder where it has gone.

  • WORD......I can relate

  • wow NICE!

  • BEAUTIFUL.

  • such an ignorant comment from an ignorant person

  • seriously.. how retarded are you?

    ignorant.

  • wow...

  • ooooh my.

  • Just the lyrics alone are a work of beauty, but the energy he put into it made it come alive...

  • Great job Alvin Lau, this a piece of art =)

  • This guy is a genius...

Has anyone seen Asia from Miami? He was in a recent episode of Def Jam. His delivery is a lot like Alvin's. If you get a chance to watch, take notice of their body language. They are very similar in ways.

  • Just sayin' ... I was here first.
